Flouro Leader Issues
No please share. It was on sale. lol. I was just trying it out. Real small spool.... I heard Seagar is good. So my leader should be equal to or greater than my main line?

Superline Vs. Flourocarbon
Ive been using a superline for a bit this season and I love the sensitivity and strength but I dont get alot of bites unless I tie on a flouro leader... Which brings me to my question... how does flouro compare to braids/superlines on stretch and abrasion resistance? Do any of you fill your spool with flouro? If so, what kind do you recommend for a medium power fast action pole I use for plastics only. I believe its rated 10-17#. Maybe Ill save my lime green fireline for frogging only...

Flouro Leader Issues

Flouro Leader Issues
I went fishing yesterday and had a decent day of seven fish in a couple hrs. Was walking along the bank working some weeds on my way back to my truck to head home for the night when all the sudden I hooked something BIG. I had my 19#drag cranked to the max and it was still peeling off line. I fought it for a couple minutes when I felt something every fisherman dreads, nothing. So I reeled my line in and noticed my polymar had broken. I have 30# Fireline with 14# Berkley Vanish 100% flouro. Should I get a floro stronger than my main line? Whats the best knot for a floro leader? My uni-to-uni held up fine... I need a good line to hook knot for 100% floro. Thx fellas B-)

Looking For Some Help
Get a buzz bait and get there at least one hr before sunrise. The fish are spoting you as soon as you waltz up to the shoreline. Try low light conditions. Early A.M. and after sunset.

Anybody Fishing Ponds/lakes In Eastern Iowa?
I live in Davenport and fish Railroad Lake, Lake of the Hills, Laumbach and many other small lakes and ponds in the area on a regular basis. I will be getting a bass raider this season to increase my catch rate. All lakes at West Lake Park are highly pressured and must be fished with uncommon lures at early or late hrs of the day. The new lake you are talking about will be in McCausland. Its supposed to be over 300 acres. I walked through the existing creekbed and discovered many man made structures to provide cover for fish. Tire piles and hundreds of wooden pallets stacked along the waters future edge like a coral reef. I made many mental notes but need to go back with a gps and mark waypoints of these potential honey holes. This lake is going to be amazing and a long time coming for this area.

Thats what its all about.

Caught 1St Fish On Jig!!!!
I would look into assembling your own. You just need skirts and jigs. The combinations are endless. You can even add lips for "chatterbaits". All for less than your basic, "fully asdembled" jig

Frog Mistake!!!
I always carry a pocket knife to cut my superline. Nothing else but sharp sissors will work well, which I have in a swiss army knife I always have in my tackle box just in case.

Thanks For The Advice!!
Nice fish. Ive yet to try the senkos but will be getting some for my upcoming trip to a clear lake in Michigan.

Can Carp And Bass Live In Harmony In A Pond?
Could be the time of day you are fishing. I highly suggest getting a solunar calendar and try following its peak days and peak times within those peak days. This WILL work.

Think Ive Discovered My New Fave Jig Trailer
I have used the color "breen" (mostly green with a brown tint) 4" t-rigged with moderate success. I will have to trim one and use it as a trailer.

Question About Topwaters
Direct tie is the only way to go. IMHO

Favorite Kind Of Soft Plastics
Its not the brand you get or how much you spend on them. Its how you present them. Anyone who has used mainly plastics for years (as I have) knows this. I use mainly hand poured plastics a buddy makes. They are cheap and have minor flaws (which I like!) but I catch more fish on these baits than ever before.

Lures That You Have To Have?
I would focus on perfecting what you have on that list for now and then expand when you get a plastics setup...

Avoid Backstabber And Iobee Frog By Jackall
Best heavy mat frog? Rage Tail Green Pumpkin/White pearl. Paired w/ 30# Fireline Fusion, and of course a 5/0 Owner hook. IMHO I personally like a fast action medium power pole for more feel of the fight.

Whats Good Color Trailer To Go With This Color Jig Skirt?

Scent Or No Scent
I only use two scents. Garlic and Crawfish. Garlic is my fav. Rage tails coffee scent awesome too. It doesnt stink up my truck.

Congratulations
I live in Iowa. I met a kid on my tug-o-war team from Illinois who had been to state four times in a row for bass fishing. Future pro? I would bet on it. If only i had been given that opportunity I know I coulda went pro. I remember riding my bike to a local creek nearby to catch little "junk" fish for hrs. It didnt matter they were only a few inches long.... I was fishing. Ive grown a bit since then and so has the size of fish I that I target. I think this High School fishing program is great. Not all kids like rough sports (I loved 'em!) like football and wrestling. Fishing will give them and all kids (in states that sanction it) a chance to see nature in a way that most kids only see on T.V. Afterall, you avid anglers on this forum would agree that just being out on the water is relaxing and healing. Even if no fish make it to the boat. They are just icing on the cake. Lets not forget all the local "fishing experts" that will have job opportunities as coaches and boat drivers.
