  1. Palomar for braid, improved clinch knot for mono/copoly. I actually tried the trilene knot yesterday, im going to use that from now on.
  2. X2 I've owned and used both, the ci4+ is definitely a nicer reel. If you can afford it, go Shimano.
  3. I use down to 10lb power pro, no problems at all.
  4. All my reels are used, I want the best performance when I'm on the water. Only reel that sits on my shelve is the original Mitchell 308 that my dad gave me...
  5. I feel no difference between the two, i only picked up the mg because it has the 5:8 ratio for crankin. Yep, vision 110's and pointer 100's
  6. Everybody is ready for the year
  7. Went to dicks last night, there having great sales right now. Picked up sufix elite and cxx to try out for my crankin rod. I'm a braid guy but I'm forcing myself to use more mono/copoly this year. I've used 6-8lb cxx before, I bought 10lb and d**n that stuff has memory.
  8. I took the back seats out of my sedan to fit my kayak. When I'm just shore fishing the rods fit on an angle. My swimbait rod is too long so that goes straight ahead between the front seats...
  9. Some new swimbait goodness
  10. Love the 1/4oz xcalibur and red eyes. Caught my one and only muskie on a chartreuse 1/4oz xcalibur...
  11. Love throwing 1/4oz cranks on my conquest 51 and aldebaran mg. Fresh pair of hedgehog spool bearings and your sending that trap a mile...
  12. Thanks for the info. Only thing I'm Leary about is the reel seat. Ive read alot of complaints online about the reel seat coming loose all the time...
  13. I'm building a light duty 1-3oz swimbait setup and the crucial 7'9 umbrella rod caught my eye. Has anyone used that and would know if that could double as a good umbrella and swimbait rod ? Will be paired with a conquest 201. I almost pulled the trigger on a mike long dobyns rod but I think its a little heavier for what I'm going to be throwing. 1-2oz 5-6 inch hardbaits will be thrown most of the time...
  14. My favorites are shimano cumulus & first gen cumaras. Super light and great sensitivity. Others I've used used and really liked in no particular order, Powell endurance and max, dobyns champion and DX, phenix m1 and recon, Fenwick smallmouth and aetos, st Croix avid. I have my eyes on a jackall adrena, and a few megabass...
  15. I had to stop by walmart to get something and took a stroll by the fishing department. They had a trashcan filled with rods, take an additional 50% off red tag price. I scored a 7'6 daiwa jupiter swimbait rod for $32 There was one bucoo left for $65, had to restrain myself from buying it, haha. I was just happy, ive been surfing tw everyday looking for a great affordable 3/4-2oz swimbait rod on the cheap but hate ordering rods with out trying them out first....
  16. Reel will hold 120 yds of 14lb line, not sure what the max size line I can get on there. I plan on throwing lighter baits in the 3/4-2oz range....
  17. Dude, i have the sickness as well
  18. Im going to try the swimbait thing this year, started by picking up a used calcutta 251. Ripped it apart and gave it a good cleaning. Put a set of boca os bearings in, an 85mm zpi handle, and some extra eva knobs i had laying around. I will be putting some septons on when they come in. Have to figure out what line im going to use, seems like the pline cxx is very popular in the swimbait community. Also considering since this is a smaller reel to go with 50lb braid and flouro leaders, any opinions ?
  19. I've caught my largest on a jackall flickshake, but when I target them I use Sammy's, buzzbaits, and frogs.
  20. 7'1 Cumulus Calcutta 251 Stella 1000fe Daiwa Alphas ito Conquest 51 Aldebaran mg Aldebaran bfs xg 4 zpi handles Shimano boxes Fto boxes Lots of hedgehog studios goodies Lots of JDM baits Spent way too much and I haven't stopped yet, lol
  21. Yea yea... Well you live and learn. My chances of finding another mint 51s is pretty slim but this one will happily fill the spot for now.
  22. Haha, its an addiction !!
  23. I've owned 3 201e7's, and 3 51e's. All amazing reels that led me to go higher in the chain to the core, conquests, and aldebarans. If I had a boat id probally have a few more curados rigged up, definitely the best workhorse reel for the money...
