Looking To Get First Boat...where To Start?
^^^THIS^^^ I paid $500 for my bass boat on Craigslist. Put $1000 into it. Now it worth $5000+ and looks and runs like new. Guy selling it didn't know much about the boat that he inherited from his recently deceased father in law. He needed fast cash. I found this great deal on CL. Keep looking!

Anyone Use These???
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreI am so glad that this is a case of "to each his own". I've had several compliments on it that it "suits the boats lines". Additionally it added 3mph, made my hole shot like a dragster, and I can hit choppy water at WOT and feel like I'm on glass. With all of this said I firmly believe that this is the BEST $49 I put into my boat.

5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreSince you put it that way, I will keep the same pitch and just go to the stainless steel from the aluminum. :-)

Anyone Use These???
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreThere are guys that fish in tournaments with me down here and they use them as welL. I am replacing my prof with a higher pitch in a stainless steel version this week. My 70 hp Johnson on my 16 foot bass boat is very strong for what I have. However there is nothing wrong with wanting a little bit more kick in the pants. :-)

Prop Help
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreFound this on a website: "Pitch is defined as "the distance a propeller would move in one revolution if it were moving through a soft solid, like a screw through wood." For example, a 21-pitch propeller would move forward 21 inches in one revolution. Think of a propeller as you would a car's axle ratio. The lower the ratio, the more pulling power from a standstill. The same is true with a prop. The lower the pitch, the better your hole-shot. However, this comes at a price: top speed. The lower pitch makes the engine reach maximum rpm at slower speeds. Conversely, a higher pitch will deliver greater top speeds, but slower acceleration. Be aware that lower-horsepower engines can bog down if fitted with a propeller with too high a pitch and diameter, and that can wear heavily on internal engine parts. If you're changing pitch on a recreational boat, remember that each inch of pitch is worth about 200 rpm. Lowering the pitch will increase rpm and vice versa. For example, going from a 23 pitch to a 21 pitch will increase engine rpm by about 400 revolutions." With this in mind, I have a hydrofoil stabilizer and my hole shots are insanely better since I installed it. So should I go with the 11 pitch and gain some on top end? The 9 pitch wouldn't reach a higher top end but the hole shot would be better. Again, the hydrofoil stabilizer would more than make up for that.

Prop Help
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreSo I did my research further and learned how to measure the diameter. The distance from the center of the hub is 7 inches. Times that by 2 and I have a 14 inch diameter prop. The different websites I looked at show 2 pitch options 9 and 11. I cannot tell which I have now and do not know which pitch to get?

Anyone Use These???
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreMy boat came with the 70 when I bought it and it has been very strong and reliable. Don't see the need to upgrade the motor especially when it boogies pretty good. Scoots along even better now. :-)

Prop Help
I want to upgrade my prop. Johnson 70hp 2 stroke. From what I researched online for 1989, it is a 13 spline. The various sites list several diameters like 13, 13.5, 13.7/8, etc. How do I know what I have? Existing prop is painted so I can't see the numbers even if they were there. My prop now works, but it has some dings and had a small 1/4 inch piece that was bent and I was able to form it back to normal. I just want to make sure I get the right one.

Anyone Use These???
Just installed a Sting Ray hydrofoil stabilizer for my 16 foot Cajun with a 70 Johnson 2 stroke. What a difference!!! Hole shot feels like I was launched by a giant rubber band! No more porpoising (even with trim adjusted). Faster top end and better gas mileage. Feels like a 170 instead of a 70!!! Best $50 at BPS I ever spent!!

Trailer Wheel Bearing
Outer wheel bearing took a dump today. Wheel stayed on. Pulled over and was able to detach trailer, hit auto parts store, "road side mechanic" it and head home. Inspected axle. Looks good. Inspected inner race and bearing. Good. New outer bearing is good however the race was a little rough. Lightly sanded it down without compromising the fit and put it all back together with new grease and hardware. Only issue is now the wheel has a slight wobble of play. About 1/4 inch play even with the outer nut tightened down tight enough where it can spin smoothe and still hold together. Did they give me too small of an outer bearing? The race wasn't dinged up enough to cause 1/4 inch of play. If I tighten it anymore the wheel gets tight to spin.

Does Spark Plug Brand Make A Difference?
5 Dollar Fishing Game replied to 5 Dollar Fishing Game's topic in Bass Boats, Canoes, Kayaks and moreI put in the NGK's. Made a difference. Hole shot is better, smoother idle, quicker starts, and gained 3mph. Gas mileage seems better too. ;-)
