  1. When a pro (or any participant) in a tournament catch big bass, can they keep them after weigh ins to have mounted? Also once final weigh ins are done, like at the Classic, what happens to the bass that are held up for pictures and stuff?
  2. I was watching somke videos and saw Shaw Gribsby bass fishing in FL. He was literally calling out what two bass were doing down near his bait in the water on his electronics. Right when he said the male was gonna bite, he did. I couldn't believe it! I use a Humminbird 110 just until I can afford a more complex one, but do the top of the line electronics actually show that much detail?
  3. Bionic ninja hook set!! Lol that's priceless. I have done my share of those. That makes sense about the hook styles. Are fish more likely to let the worm out of their mouth if you set it too early with the drop using one of the "set able" hooks?
  4. A friend of mine said when you get a strike on a drop shot worm you don't have to set the hook. He says you just start reeling and the fish will hook itself. Anyone heard of this? I usually set all the time but just wanted some input. Thanks! Joe.
  5. 18?!?!?!!! Whoa!! That's cold. Well fly out to NC and get on my boat. :-) I am always living more people to fish with. Is the water frozen over there?
  6. Here in NC weather has been unseasonably warm for December. However it is still winter and the water temps have been 52-56 degrees. In a pond (this part was about 5ft) we fished there was a large downed tree under water. We caught about 6 fish in an hour. One crappie and the rest bass. Here is the kicker, they all bit on a spoon, swim bait minnow, drop shot worm, and slow retrieve top water!!' This is proof that there is no such thing as one specific lure working at one specific time of the year. Love it! Joe
  7. I did! 5.6lbs. It is my profile picture. :-). Christmas 2012 is my one year anniversary of bass fishing too.
  8. Joe and Joe!!! Yep. I know where that is. I've fished Harris lake before in new hill
  9. 52 has been the coldest so far. If January and February are colder than this I doubt the water temps will get below 42 or 43. Then come march the spawn fast approaches. :-)
  10. Went out to one of the ponds today to fish. Temperature this whole week has been about 60° with water temperature about 52° Today was very cloudy here in NC. The center of the pond was about 10 feet deep and we tried every lure and got nothing. However all along the bank is about 2 to 3 feet deep. There are stumps and huge trees in the water all over the bank. I threw a swim bait minnow and we were getting fish!!!!! I thought in the winter time the bass went to the bottom. Were we seeing all these fish because they were trying to get warm near the trees? Joe
  11. I did some research and found this: January- cold month/ bottom fishing February- cold month / bottom fishing March- Pre spawn / middle water April- spawn / middle and top water/ sight bed fish May- warm month/ middle and top / best June- warm month/ middle and top / best July- warm month / middle and top / best August- warm month / middle and top / best September- cool month / middle October- cool month / middle / bottom November- cold month/ bottom December- cold month/ bottom How much variation can these figures go through? I mean is it "nearly impossible" to catch a bass top water in December? For example. Or can the spawn be earlier like if the water temps get 70 degrees in late February for example?
  12. Thanks guys! Justin, I appreciate the info on the winter use of jerk baits. That makes sense. Ill try then out. :-)
  13. Are these the same thing? What's different and why do some people want to throw a jerk bait in the winter? :-)
  14. Get em in garner bud!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Sweet! I love the cold weather change. Just makes us all better in the warm months. Great fish!!!
  16. Makes sense. The one pond is about 3-4 ft deep and it felt like ice. The bigger averages about 10-12 feet and that pond was a little chilly. No wind here really though. I will try different presentations. :-)
  17. I will certainly try that. Hopefully they will be hungry Saturday. :-)
  18. Obviously a week of cold weather will make the water temperature go down also, and a week I hot weather will cause a rise in water temps. If there is one day of really hot or really cold weather during the week, that is probably not enough to heat or chill the entire body of water (especially ponds). However I was curious as to if the fish would tend to be more active on the warm day. We have had the last few days here in NC have been cloudy with temps in the 50's, this Saturday is supposed to be sunny and 70. Wonder if they will have more action on Saturday?
  19. Christmas Day is my 1 year anniversary of bass fishing. I still learn every day and love it more ech time I catch a 5 pounder! Thanks for the long reply. I learned a bunch! I will use my drop shot a little bit slower too. By the way I would love $64,000. :-)
  20. Man that's a close match!!! Nice fish too. :-)
