  1. I fish year round too here in nc. What a nice set if pics!!!! That is motivating brother!!! Nicely done my friend. :-)
  2. Well, took a break from the big lakes and hit two ponds. The first pond has some huge trees on the outskirts and is about 2 football fields in size. The deepest is about 20 feet and caught one 2.5lbs. bass on a drop shot worm. This was in the first 5 minutes of the fishing start. Stayed about another hour and got nada. The second pond is about the size of one football field and the whole pond is about 3-4 feet deep. You can see the bottom clear as day all around. The bottom looks like tiny plants all over and the bass kinda swim "through" them and attack the lures like crazy when it is hot. Today was overcast and about 50 degrees. The water felt like 40 degrees. 0 bass in the little pond. There are some downed trees and big logs but we found no bass from the johnboat. Where are they? In the summer I can catch 30-40 bass in about 2 hours and they are all about 1-3 pounds. In the bigger pond are they in the dead center at the bottom? The one today bit near the shore but I was not in the boat then. Where are they in the shallow pond? thanx! joe
  3. I think 5.5 was what the scale said. It was an awesome fish. I caught that fish then one a little smaller like 4.0lbs. The first one I screamed like a little girl. Lol
  4. Hey guys! I think I have this in the correct thread section. :-) Anyway, this is the biggest bass I ever caught and it was a few months ago. I cannot remember what the scale said. I remember the scale saying 5 something or maybe 6. I think closer to like 5 or 5.5. I did not get a measurment on it either. I posted a few pics here. Any input is appreciated.
  5. 17'4" Old Towne Penobscot was my last canoe. LOVED IT! Wanted a bigger vessel for my family. It was awesome getting right there on the shorelines. :-)
  6. They are probably center of the water at the deepest now. They need to eat still. :-)
  7. Well it has been several weeks since I fished die to a busy work schedule. Now that I am free the temperatures are starting to get into the 30s and 40s here in North Carolina. Is bass fishing nearly impossible to enjoy between now and March 2013? I don't know how much more of my bass fishing video games my wife can stand LOL. Joe
  8. I don't hunt. However Zachb34 is spot on. All these months of practice will be just what I need for the winter months!!!!!
  9. Started bass fishing January1st of 2012 this year and love it! I plan on fishing year round here in NC. When I fished from January - March I didn't get more than a few hits. Maybe due to the cold weather, or lack of experience. Anyway, I want to use my new found knowledge and try all seasons. Who all fishes 365 year round?
  10. Sounds good! I'll get them cleaned and serviced today. :-)
  11. Taking the plates off seem easy. What solvent to clean it and what to lube it?
  12. The local ponds here in NC hold big fish and also lots of moss. Yesterday me and a friend spent 6 hours between two ponds and our reels on our baitcasters got nasty. Just from reeling in the fish, sandy green junk got flung everywhere. So before I left I "dunked" both my rods in a clear part of the water off the boat to get the stuff off. It worked, but didn't really clean it. Question is what is the best procedure to clean up the reels after a day like that? One is a Pro Max Abu and the other is a Quantum. Also can tr reels be "oiled" or just leave them be. Thanks!!!
  13. Worked great for a 6.6 pounder! Just keep the bait moving natural and enjoy!!!!!! Thanks guys!!!!!!!
  14. Thanks for the info!!! What is the downside to a harder hook set? I have missed many fish with a regular weighted worm because I have either been too early or too late. I guess for me it is more about timing. :-)
  15. My friend and I will be fishing a new local pond today. He is showing me how to drop shot rig with a worm. Is this much harder than regular worm fishing? Thanks! Joe
  16. Bassmaster magazine apparently has a couple new owners as of a few months ago. I got a promotion in the mail to upgrade to a three-year membership with a gift pack. $75 for three years and my gift pack had a small tackle bag and hat and DVD and a few reading materials. Cool beans!
  17. That sounds like a great idea. I will do some research and sign up. That will give me some experience and get me ready. Until then I will keep drooling over bass boat pictures lol.
  18. I hope I have this in the correct section. :-) Anyway, I fish a bunch on the local ponds and lakes in my 17.5 ft "luxury" canoe. It is fully loaded with cane seats, royalex coating, two people seating, the whole nine. I am a med student and until I finish school I can't get my dream bass boat like the ones the pros use. Question is, do all tournaments go out on boats? I live in NC and all the ones I've seen they have bass boats. This may sound dumb, but do they have any tourneys with kayaks and canoes? Joe
  19. I agree. The pond may be smaller, but the fish will have a better chance of seeing the same lure over and over again. The lake may be bigger, but the fish are more populated and more spread out and the angler can get more hits from some curious fishy. :-)
