  1. I haven't posted much lately. I've done pretty decent at Culler lake this year and hit and miss at Black hills. I did take the kayak out in the Potomac yesterday and slammed them, caught over 30. The biggest going 13" and I'd say average fish 10" or so. The water was crystal clear and I was just bouncing teaser tubes off the bottom and them some top water in the evening. I put in at Mouth of Monocacy and paddled up to just past the 1st island. I decided to take Tuesday off work to get back out there and see if I can catch some more!
  2. I read that a boat went over the d**n this afternoon on Lake Linganore with 9 people on it. Not much info - http://www.fredericknewspost.com/public/rescue-at-lake-linganore-dam-people-in-water/article_924be634-618c-5b12-85d1-ef2f10f7a851.html Edit - 1 person did not survive.
  3. Hit up black hills tonight. Good news, access from 121 is open again. The water is super clear. I threw everything I had and didnt get any action until I put on a kvd sexy dog and had 2 right away and it went dead again.
  4. Mouth of Monocacy aqueduct will give you shore access to the potomac as well as Dickerson warm water discharge area.
  5. My cousin posted this picture this morning from Black Hills, I don't know if that's his truck or not.
  6. It's been awhile since I've updated my fishing lately. Let me just say I love the spawn. Been killing it at Baker park this past month. Now that it's close to over I'll tell you what I found that the bass couldn't resist. I have some Campground Special Teaser tubes (2 3/4") that I picked up this winter for small mouth on the Potomac. Let me tell you, once I gave those a try, when I found a bass sitting on a bed, my average catch time was less than 5 mins. i had a few lunch breaks up at baker park with 3 or 4 fish caught. 2 weeks ago I got the kayak out to Black Hills and only came away with one fish, I haven't been back yet. I also checked out the pond by Frisco's in the Yak that same day, got 1, missed 2 or 3. I was way back in a mess of trees with no casting room, so I was trying to pitch/flip from the yak. It wasn't easy. Here's a few bedding bass 4.5 pounder 3.5 pounder A few other
  7. The Potomac is suppose to be at 4' high tomorrow at Point of Rocks. Anybody familiar with how it will look at White's Ferry? I'm going to put the kayak in tomorrow, just curious if it's going to be to high to paddle up river and fish back down.
  8. The spawn is full on at Baker Park. I picked 5 of their beds at lunch today. Biggest just shy of 3lbs. I doubt I will fish back up there until they are off the beds. No point in catching the same fish over and over. I found a soft plastic they were just crushing. All 5 fish today didnt take longer than 3 mins to catch after spotting them on their bed. Should be putting the yak in at whites ferry this weekend although I'm hearing reports that the fishing is a lot slowet than it should be. I think the river is going to be at 4 feet at point of rocks so I think I will be able to paddle up river and fish back
  9. Got the yak out at black hills Sat. 12 to 5. Only managed one fish on a texas rigged rage craw in about 8 foot of water. Missed another around the same spot. So hard to figure out where to fish without electronics on my yak. I really need to do something about that
  10. Hit a few ponds around Frederick today. Bass are starting on their beds. Fishing was slow today, but I wasn't at work so it was a good day.
  11. I have tomorrow off work and was going to dump the kayak in at Black Hills for the day, but after reading how slow the bite is, and without a fish finder on the yak, I'm thinking I should plan on other waters instead. Maybe I'll be better off pond hoping or giving dickerson and the C&O canal a go.
  12. Nice fish Edub. I haven't had much luck there the past week running a 1/2 oz red eye shad along the shoreline. Have caught a few decent size crappie with it though. Only managed abouta 2 pound bass last Fri evening. I dont know where to start with Whitter. Caught one there last year just over 3 pounds. I've not really put a bunch of time putting anything together over there. If you see me at baker park come say hi. I always have my blue tackle backpack on.
  13. Im still trying to get a hold of my mom to take the kid on sat. I plan on dumping the kayak in by the bridgeEdit - moms busy sat. Looks like I'll be out there Sun
  14. Looks like it's just on Sunday.
  15. Nice fish MARs. Might hit up Black hills in the yak this weekend. Was hoping to drop it in the Potomac but the future cast has it rising to 5' on Friday. I didn't think we were suppose to get that much rain. I'd really like to get into some smallies now that water temp is pushing mid 50's
  16. I don't tie down the front, and last year I didn't tie down the back either. I probably should though. My Yak has a paddle holder molded in it for laying the paddle sideways, I just use those divots to place in the front rack bar and the back bar butts up pretty decent around the lip behind the seat. It's on pretty good and I don't have to get on the highway to get to the river which is only about 20 miles, if that from me. When I got my Jeep I spent a long time looking for something that didn't have to be permanently attached.
  17. I have one of those, I call her my wife.
  18. Jeep wave. I have a soft top 2 door and this is what I went with http://www.quadratec.com/products/12034_0402_07.htm I did have to cut a little of the plastic on the soft top that connects to the Jeep. My Yak is just under 50lbs and I have had no issues the it the past 2 years of use. The support rails bolt on to the Jeep with not drilling needed.
  19. Im fairly new to baitcasters. I would recommend cheap floro line before braid until you get the hang of it. No use burning through expensive line until you can keep the birdsnest down
  20. Thanks Basser. I am going to target other areas if that's where I end up tomorrow. I have such a love/hate relationship with that place. I know there are some killer fish in there, I just have a hard time reading that place. I was doing alright last year figuring out an evening summer pattern, but outside of that I still have to put a lot of time into that place to figure it out. I have some places I want to target for the pre-spawn, just not sure how effective they will be from shore. I have a 3/4 oz Red Eye shad I want to put on my baitcaster and see how far I can chuck that thing. So between Black Hills and Dickerson for the Potomac, I just can't decide which place is going to give me the best chance of catching something. The Potomac at Dickerson was 45 degrees this morning so I'm thinking it's getting warm enough to get the smallies moving. Point of Rocks is at 3.9 feet so if I run down to Dickerson, I'm hoping that's enough water to bring them up on the the long shelf that runs down the MD side. I could target the canal as well. I know you guys have said there some fish in there, but I've not caught anything yet and it was iced over a few weeks ago when I gave it a try. I'm not expert for early spring river fishing, but if I'm fishing the Potomac tomorrow, I'm starting with some 2 3/4" tubes.
  21. Right on. Im on the fence for black hills or the potomac river tomorrow. I cant decide which place I want to get skunked at.
  22. Hit Baker Park today at lunch, ended up being an impromptu BassResource meet up. I meet MARsPEED and Munkin while I was fishing. It's cool putting a face to a name now. Anyway, landed one fish, just happened to be my personal best 5.3lb Edit - just had a friend tell me the road closed sign at black hills boat ramp is gone.
  23. That's what I'm talking about. Looks like you had a killer day on the river
  24. I may run down there on Sunday. I'm still up in the air of where I want to get out to. Really wanting to get some smallmouth action in, but I'm not sure what this rain Thurs. will do to the water on the Potomac. I'm kayak bound so I'd rather not fight the river if it's up and running faster than normal. I may try shore fishing at the Mouth of the Monocacy or maybe give Dickerson a try. I could always check out the canal while I'm there. I know for the Potomac at the Monocacy the MD side is pretty shallow, but if we get some rain and muddy it up, it might bring them into the shallows. Just below the Monocacy is about the only location to fish that part of the river from shore. If I do hit up Black Hills I'm thinking my best option from shore might be under and around the bridge. As long as my wife doesn't get any more clients Sunday, I'll be out getting a line wet somewhere.
  25. http://www.fishingnotes.com/fishing-report/md/Little-Seneca-Lake I have no idea how accurate that site is at estimating water temp but its saying 43
