  1. And a forecast of 39 degrees and a rising barometer on Sat. I think I'll leave the kayak in the backyard. Sunday is going to be 51, but I'm guessing the water temp at Black Hill is still to low to pound the bank from shore. I'll see if I can get out and hit some ponds and give Black Hill another week. I'm itching to get the kayak in the water, but in 2 years I haven't tipped it yet, so I'm still a little worried about falling into 45 degree water. I really need a friend with a real boat. My brother still hasn't renewed the tags on his trailer for his Jon boat.
  2. Thanks for the update Ken.
  3. I have an Ascend 10' Angler from bass pro and I'm always looking for places to put it in at. I normally take it out on the Potomac. I put in at Mouth of Mononcacy and just paddle out and fish the Potomac.
  4. You are talking about up on RT 26 next to the boat ramp for the monocacy, right? I have not, but I'm pond hopping with my brother tomorrow, and have considered giving it a go.
  5. I caught him on a jig. I've never tried Urbana lake, can you put a kayak in there?
  6. Nalin pond is inside of Ft. Detrick. We have been fishing at Culler lake which is right by Baker Park on W 2nd Street. So if you mean Culler lake, than yes my buddy and I have fished there the past 2 days around 12:30 - 1:30
  7. I just happen to live right outside Detrick, and work at Detrick so it's a nice little place to run to when short on time. I managed another at lunch today - 3.8lb's It was really windy though. Caught him at the same spot I got the other 2 yesterday. If it's Seans secret spot, I won't tell anybody.
  8. I believe this above sentence fully explains how well jtphenom understands fishing etiquette Just glad to see you catch one too. If Black Hills still has ice on it Sat I'll be pond hoping all day instead with my bro if you're interested.
  9. I ran over to Baker Park at lunch today. I was not disappointed, landed a 2.7lb and 3.7lb. My first fish of the year, I'll take that.
  10. Well crap. I was hoping to get a boat on there the 21st C&O at Dickerson is still frozen over and this is what I was meet with today when I was going to hick up to the discharge area.
  11. I managed to get a line wet this afternoon at a pond in frederick. Water temp at the shore was 47.3. No fish but got to break in my new baitcaster. Picked up an abu garcia silver max on a 7 foot med/fast rod Im going to try the canal at Dickerson tomorrow and maybe check out the potomac and see how it looks
  12. You should have gotten a tandem, she paddles, you fish!
  13. Point of Rocks is projected to be at 11.5' on Friday. I was debating on checking out Dickerson this Sat but I think it's suppose to rain and from shore, I'm not sure how the river will look. I may cruise by that pond behind Frisco's instead and see if it's thawed. Trying to plan getting my brother's jon boat in at Black Hills on the 21st
  14. It won't be long now! If we get a good steady days of 45+ degree weather what's the realistic time for Black Hills to warm up and fish start moving to pre-spawn staging areas?
  15. Who's coming with me . . . http://i.imgur.com/7ts2ySw.gifv
  16. If anybody wants to put a boat in the water, I'll volunteer to stand at the bow and break the ice.
  17. Thanks BrianinMD. And FYI, more snow on the way Thursday, 5 -8" I'm done with this this stuff. Let's hope it starts to warm up soon!
  18. Here is a question that's on my mind. Does Black Hill's have shad or are the primary bait fish for bass Blue gill and the perch they put in not to long ago?
  19. Tried a baitcaster last yer for the 1st time so I don't have much advice to give other than, go with cheap line. It took me a good while to get the hang of it and I can't tell you how many times I had to cut and strip 1/2 the spool off to get out some nasty bird nests. This tip has helped me a lot with getting out the backlashing though
  20. I don't know about you all, but I'm ready to get out of this deep freeze and get some lines wet. The end of March can't come soon enough.
  21. If you want to stand and fish in a kayak you are going to need to double your budget and look at Jackson kayaks. I can't afford one of those, but they are amazing yaks. I picked up a 10' sit in from Bass Pro 2 years ago called the Ascend FS10. It was already rigged for fishing and I really like it. It's my 1st kayak and it's pretty stable, I haven't rolled it yet. They do have a 12 sit on top rigged for fishing for $550. You may want to check out the boating section of this forum http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/forum/10-bass-boats-canoes-kayaks-and-more/ You'll find better info most likely.
  22. Let's talk Dickerson warm water discharge. I read all over the interwebs how great this place is in winter. I've tried a few times this winter when temp has been in the mid 40's. Sometimes the stacks were producing smoke, sometimes not. I have not caught anything. I've tried the entire discharge area with grubs, 2 1/2" tubes, small crank baits. I believe it's going to be in the mid 40's on Sat so I'm going to try again. I'm looking for any tips for catching smallies down there. I'm going to grab some night crawlers this time.
  23. Since its going to be in the mid 40s this weekend Im thinking about hitting dickerson. Any idea where i can get live minnows in frederick?
  24. Gave Dickerson a try today with my brother and another friend. Fished right at the discharge and didn't catch anything. I just tossed some small tubes and a few crank baits. It was a lot warmer than I thought it was going to be today. Did get a nice little fire going though. It was just good getting out with my brother. The last few years he's been my fishing buddy. This was only the 3rd time we got out this year together though. He got married to a girl with 4 kids, so his life has changed a bit. Hopefully next year I can get out more with him. On a side note, I could use a new fishing buddy for next year with boat and Jet outboard . I'm getting tired of paddling the kayak up the potomac. I don't have any other friends with a yak that I can hook up with to do actual float trips down the river. I'm stuck putting in and taking out at the same place. Would love to float Point of Rocks to Mouth of the Monocacy. One of these days I'll have extra money to pick up my own 12 - 14' jon boat. I'm seeing next Sun may be in the 50's, so I'll probably give it another try. Might have to break out the night crawlers and see what happens. I've normally given up fishing this late in the year in the past, but I'm gonna stick with it and see if I can figure Dickerson out. It's too low now I think, reading 1.1' at point of rocks. Does anybody know if the canal at dickerson can be productive in the fall/winter. I imagine it get's to cold, and I have no idea where those fish are going to hide, it doesn't look that deep.
