  1. Wish I had a jet outboard for my brothers Jon boat, so jealous. But at least we have something, a 20 year old 9.8 mercury that at least gets us there, just slowly. Anyway, ran the Kayak up to Mouth of Monocacy tonight, man was it windy for the first 2 hours, I was practically being blown up river, which was actually nice. Managed only 2, 1 on a baby brush hog, and 1 on a 4" lizard. They didn't want to touch my crankbaits. But it's always nice getting out on the river in my yak, so no complaints
  2. Managed to get out this morning. Did a little wading on the Potomac up by Harpers Ferry. Managed 6 Smallies and a few more got off. Found a nice little hole that they were actively feeding on bait fish. It was pretty cool just to be around all the action.
  3. Ran to Black Hills after work Monday night. Got my 1st bass on a frog at the stick-ups, nice 4lber. Got two more on a Zara spook over at the backwash, 1 on each side. I must have landed one cast right on top of one, because he crushed it the second it hit the water. I wasn't expecting that becasue the spook makes a hell of a splash on impact. I did see what looked to be a very nice bass fertilizing a nest over by where the creek dumps into the lake at the stick-ups. I had my frog on and my tackle box was too far away from me to go grab something else to see if I could catch him. I figured I'd let Daddy do his work and catch his kids in a few years. There were a bunch of carp in the backwash hanging out, some pretty big ones. Anybody have a recommendation on brand/type fishing line for a baitcaster. I can't remember what I put on it last year, and I restrug my baitcaster last week with some 12lb. 1st cast with it was the worst birds nest I've had. Last year was my 1st year trying a baitcaster and it was fine. This year, I have no idea what happen. I had to put my frog on my spinning rod that has 10lb line on it. Frog was a little heavy for it, but I did enjoy the extreme long casting, talk about covering a lot of water quickly!
  4. Nice fish. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hessitant of lipping a bass full of treble hooks.
  5. Finally got out on the Potomac for some smallmouth action Sat. Put in at Mouth of Monocacy with my brother and his son. We put over 20 fish on the boat, nothing big, but it's fish! The only thing they wanted were crankbaits.
  6. Looks like a lot more raining coming in the next few days. At this rate, it feels like I'm never going to get out on the Potomac for some smallies.
  7. Changed things up today and went out on the bay in Solomons Island with my brother and cousin on my Uncles boat. Day couldn't have started any worse, 10 mins out of the marina and he losses a transmission in one of the motors. We run back the the Marina, check things out and pretty much confirm its the trans. After a little debate my Uncle says, well, we can run on 1 engine today, so off we go. It's been really slow down in the the lower bay for rockfish and with only 1 motor we didn't get to run up north as far as he would like. None the less we put 2 on the boat with the biggest coming in at 40" According to CB chatter we had a good day compared to others. We were hardly marking any baitfish. But luck for me, my Uncle is a top notch fisherman. He routinely out fishes the charter boats in his Marina. Outside his soon to be costly repair, it was a good day on the water with family.
  8. Well Black Hills kicked my but today. I fought the wind all day and it always seemed to be blowing me into the shore. It didn't help that it appears my brothers battery charger took a dump last night, so I was only on 1/2 a battery, almost didn't make it back to the boat dock. Windy days like today really make me wish we had a foot controlled trolling motor on our Jon boat. I think I'm going to try a local pond up rt 194 outside of Walkersville tomorrow morning, or drink 1 to many tonight and say F it when the alarm goes off.
  9. Thanks and good luck. Try and save a few for me
  10. What time does your tourney launch, that way I know what time NOT to be there to launch.
  11. Finally got the skunk off. Nice 3 pounder at lunch time today from a pond off Whitter Dr in Frederick. I hope thats a good *** for this weekend. Wife and kid free weekend, I'm picking up my brothers Jon boat Sat and hitting Black Hills. Never self launched a boat before, should be fun.
  12. With all this rain, looks like the river is not going to do so well this weekend. Thinking about grabbing my brothers jon boat and hitting black hills Sat. I really want to get out on the Potomac for some smallies
  13. SHHHHH!!! That's been my secrect place for a few years. Nothing to see here, please move along. We access it from Spring Ridge which puts you in it a little further up from Monocacy. My brothers found this. My Mom lives in Spring Ridge and the creek runs back behind there. There is one spot in Spring Ridge you can park and with a nice walk through the woods you can walk up to lake linganore. I've never snuck up to the lake but we've fished the heck out of that creek the past 3 years. It's a great wading creek with pleny of smallmouth and largemouths mixed in. I love hitting that creek with my little 4 1/2 foot ultra light setup. Small crank baits, 4" zoom lizards, brush hogs, and mini torpedo's will catch you fish. I'm not going to put my spots on here for the world to see but if you want to know the 2 places we access it, hit me up with a PM. It's a nice place to get out to during the week after work when you only have an hour or two to fish. I normally wait until the water warms up to wade it since bank fishing that thing is not very ideal.
  14. Anybody ever float from Brunswick to Point of Rocks? Trying to figure out how long that may take.
  15. Sooner or later the bite is going to turn on
  16. Had an hour this evening so I ran up to Baker Park, on the way out the door my 6 year old daughter asked to come. She out fished me tonight.
  17. d**n, I had 10 bucks on me, I should have flagged you down for a ride. I was stuck on shore for 9-12, didn't catch anything. I talked to a few others, it was slow for them too. I would have been there longer, but the wife called me at 12 telling me her car was broke down. Good thing for her I didn't go pick up my bothers Jon boat for the day.
  18. Thought I only had a few hours tomorrow morning to fish due to wife working and me having to watch the kid. Got the ok from the wife that the kid is going to her friends house, looks like I have all day to fish. Hitting up blackhills in the morning. Going to hit the stick-ups 1st, then backwash, then since I have time going to see where else I can get myself too. If you see me come say hi. You can't miss me, I'll have my blue tackle backpack with me.
  19. I guess all this rain is going to kill the upper potomac for this weekend, just when it was getting back to normal.
  20. I hit up Black Hills yesterday evening from about 3:30 - 7:00. Nothing was biting.
  21. Man, I must be doing something wrong at Culler lake. I went during the week at lunch time, nothing. Maybe the action over there is better in the evening. I'm hitting Black Hills tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I can pawn the kid off to my mom and get down there around 3:00 and fish until dark. If I have to wait until the wife gets home I wont make it down there until 6
  22. Nice fish basser, that's pretty much exactly where I caught one of my 5lb's out of there last year. The other place was over by the little storage house right across the pond from you. I'm planning on running over there Friday after work.
  23. There are in there Basser. I haven't caught very many out of there, but last year I did manage 2 that went close to 5lbs. But that evens out all the days I didn't catch anything.
  24. Thanks Basser. I'm gonna have to meet you over at baker park one day, I think we actually live 5 mins from each other and 5 mins from the park.
  25. Fixed it for you!
