  1. I can't personally give input on this rod but a guy i know was a marshall up in lacrosse i believe (might have been green bay) and was partnered with ott defoe one day. I'm about 80% sure it was Ott using this rod but it could have been the other guy he was partnered with...anyway he was using this exact rod and was apparently raving about how nice of a glass rod it was for the mojo class. he was using it for ripping square bills/traps on rock/grass most of the day. he left him hold the rod and said it felt great.
  2. Do you know off hand, anybody, the weight of the SG DX744? I found the weight. The rod really weights 5.2/5.4 oz? Seems heavy.
  3. you can buy a balancing kit from BPS but i personally don't like it. Of all my rods only one I currently have needs to be balanced in order to feel comfortable. I guess I should have added in my post (what was added twice above this one) is balance is personal preference and it really depends where you hold the rod. A very cheap way to balance out a rod is go to a hardware store and buy plastic chair butts. Most rods fit into 1 1/8 in size, others are the size below for the most part. Quarters fit perfect in these. Get 3-4 quarters and place them in the cap and put it on the rod and hold the rod where you usually do. Add/subtract quarters to make it feel more comfortable. Once you found the right fit just take a small piece of duct tape, tape the quarters together, put them in the butt cap. I took a light light coat of super glue and ran it around the inside of the cap. put the cap on the rod butt and push and hold for 10-20 seconds and it will be secure. lots of rods have a black butt cap so if you do it correctly or get the appropriate cap it will just look like part of the rod rather than some odd shaped piece hanging off the butt. I've had the rod for over a year and the cap has never fell off.
  4. You are correct that once your bait is attached the tip becomes heavy again. However when talking about a rod being tip heavy, it's decisive tip heaviness is when the bait is at a rest. Techniques that require bottom contact baits that are continuously or for the majority of the time moving along the bottom is where most people choice rods based on tip heaviness(trigs/jigs/etc). A rod that is balanced correctly will feel 100xs more comfortable, light and sensitive(using similar blanks) than a rod that is lighter and constantly wanting to drop its tip into the water. The rod will feel effortless to hold. Techniques that don't require you to have your rod tip up like cranking/spinnerbaits/top water/frogging doesn't make having a non tip heavy rod necessary as you don't really ever notice it unless it's something like a 3.5oz rod /w a 9 oz reel.
  5. I'm currently unloading a few LTB and Extremes and purchasing a couple new jig and trig rods. I am going to buy this rod via TW black Friday sale or earlier if I just can't wait. Can't touch the rod prior to buying so for those that have the split grip 744c how well does this balance a curado 201E7? I've been told the extreme tapper is comparable to croixs fast in their legend blanks? Primary use will be light to mod cover 5/16-3/8 jigs or trugs which should hit this rods sweet spot? Thanks guys
  6. i use the new ones and the reel seat is very comfortable and durable. no problems with 5lb+ bass or dirty river big head 20#+ carp ever taking the reel out of place.
  7. I throw the pad crasher a lot and like it. Ive been walking frogs a while and these frogs are very easy to work. The plug on a few of mine has come out but they are cheap and nice to use. Dicks has regular sales of 2 for 8$ for them. Agree with buzz frogg on the above post. Walking anything gets very easy over timee.
  8. wel if your store is running a 50% off clearance items (which end in .97, .47 and .x3 i believe) then the reel you got was 34.97 but rang up as 50% off.
  9. Legend xtreme 69 mlxf pflueger patriarch 9530 10lb 832 /w 6-8lb fluoro leader secret lures wide gap shaky head 1/8-3/16 roboworms/sk finesse/zoom finesse and if im around a lot of rock sk baby rage craw. I shaky head fish a lot now on the river. Very productive.
  10. Yes it will add noticeable performance. It wont make the reel heavier. I was going to suggest a curado 50e for this rod as well.
  11. if you are accustomed to 6'6 rods and like them then a 6'6 mh/f will be fine. a longer rod will just mean longer casts. you can be very accurate with a 7' rod but a 6'6 is definitely easier for close quarters. i prefer a longer rod but others prefer 6'6 for what you mentioned. if you aren't doing a whole lot of open water bombing of spinner baits a 6'6 rod will suit you fine. MH'F is what i prefer for spinner baits as when i do throw them it's almost always 5/16oz-1/2 oz. if you are throwing nothing but 1/4 oz spinner baits then go M/F. if you are going heavier more so than not, go /w MH/F. Use your quantum code /w the vendettta. i wouldn't bother /w the max combos. you will be much happier buying a rod you like. you can always add a different reel down the road if need be.
  12. If you were to just get a rod and save your self some money you could get an Abu Garcia Vendetta in the 7'MH/F ( i think that's what they are called) as you don't need a very sensitive stick for a reaction strike. Rods are supposed to be pretty light. I'm sure other users who have used them could comment on this better than I could but that was my first thought given your budget. you would have money left over, too.
  13. If thats the xtreme i have that rod and its an amazing trap/squarebill rod. I throw cranks down to dd12(ish) with it. Wouldnt like it for deep cranks though.
  14. Haha oh boy by the looks of it you snagged it by the tail? I F#&$&@%$# hate running into schools of those things on the river using traps. You can snag them without trying an they put up a good fight for a few min but then its just like dragging in a tire.

Practice practice practice. Its something that just flat out takes time. Eventually it will be second nature and you can do it with all styles of jigs. Its more in the execution that jig head. Arkie jigs are definitely easier to skip and probably the best to do so but executing the cast (how hard to cast/angle of the cast/raising rod tip etc) correctly is imparative to be accurate and no just slam the jig in the water. Juet keep at it. There will be an "ahha" moment once you find the right power to throw and where to cast the jig to hit the water first.
  16. Im not sure the length but theyare the larger 9 to 11 inch range. Normal price is 9.88 per pack. They are marked down to 1.88.
  17. I thought they did away with the blue. I would hqve got blue had i known that. I was under the impression the issues were with the gen 1 nrx blue.
  18. The blue NRX rods had lots of breaking issues and reel seat failures which is why they came out with the green NRX. The nrx/fluoro imx/braid would be a fine combo. i'd use the nrx for bottom contact baits any day over the IMX. I haven't had any issues with my green NRX and there are no signs that it will. The NRX series rods are incredibly sensitive. I don't know about the IMX 844 but the GLX844 is (as said before) the go to rod for a lot of people for heavier jigs. I don't own it but i've used it and it is a very nice stick. I personally like a longer rod for frogging but it will work. I believe I and a few others have answered your loomis vs croix questions very in depth in your previous thread so check there if you have any questions.
  19. The xtreme 69mlxf or 68mxf are my favorite in the spinning line up. Most of the rods you probably held in stores are triumphs/premieres/mojo bass. I wouldnt buy a st. Croix after playing with those either. Some like them but i personally dont. The legend series are top notch.
  20. if it was only dunked in water then it just needs a good cleaning. Delaware valley tackle is a site sponser (the DVT logo on the right) and will clean your reel to like new. contact him for info.
  21. Yes, you would see an increase in sensitivity for sure. Remember, even though the jig is 1/4 oz, that only takes into account the weight of the head. there are other factors that increase weight like the style hook ( light/med/heavy wire, yours is probably med), the jig skirt (not a lot) and the plastic. rage craws aren't terribly heavy but do increase the weight. St. Croix XF rods are definitely some of the fastest tips on the market so lotss of other rods with XF tips won't compare but are still good rods, like the powell max. the 7'MF would definitely fit the bill for your needs as well as other light-medium duty needs. I just don't like the XF tip (on St. Croixs) fishing BASS jig/plastics. walleye i wouldn't trade a croix for anything. If I wanted to use one rod for light jigs/senkos it would definitely be the 7'MF over the others as long as there isn't any sort of thick cover. I see you are in Michigan so you shouldn't have any issues at all with the 7'MF. There's a guy on a different forum that is a very highly respected bass/walleye guide in Michigan's upper peninsula that can probably articulate differences in specifics for line size/rod type for your specific area much better than I can as the furthest north I fish is Red Wing, MN.If you want I can give you the site address and his name and you can just shoot him a PM. He's a really nice guy and very friendly as well as knows St. Croix Legend tourneys/Xtremes very very well.
  22. well the e-mailed me one thankfully so if anybody needs one just let me know.
  23. you're 7mhxf would be the rod i would choose out of any other rods you listed to throw the jigs you listed earlier although i would prefer 7mhf, i would still choose the mhxf over any thing else you listed. for weightless senkos the 68mxf or 7mf would be a good choice.the 68mxf can also double as a topwater rod. the 7mf would be a more well rounded rod than the 68mxf. i've used both and would prefer the 7'mf if you had to throw jigs/senkos on the same rod if the jig was no more than 5/16. i don't like throwing 3/8 or 1/2 jigs on M rods. those would be better suited for your 7' ltb rod. rods 1/2 would make great topwater/senko rods but thats about all i would use them for in the casting version. difference between the two is 2 inches more of backbone behind the XF tip. very minimal differences. just comes down to length preference. i don't like throwing jigs with either of these rods in the casting version. the spinning versions 68mxf/ 69mlxf are the greatest rods for pitching leadhead jigs /w plastics/lighter bucktails/blade baits made. rod 3- very versatile rod. i would use this rod for jigs up to 5/16 oz/senkos over any of the others rod 4- never used it. i don't like 6'6 casting rods.
