AK-NJ, pls do not misunderstand me. I did not take your statement as complaining. I thought I misunderstood on who could participate. Congrats again. So are we doing this again or what? Should be very interesting this month. July heat is no joke. I am game if you guys are. I love to fish, but this friendly tournament makes me fish with a purpose in mind.

Mvorbrodt, too bad about the pics and the big bass. Hopefully the bass will make it to be caught for another day. AKN-NJ, if this friendly tourney is held again a clarification has to be made if its only to be open to bank fishing. I thought every FL forum member boater or bank fisherman could participate. like Mvorbrodt, good observation and change of technique. Sometimes a little change like the one you experienced is all it takes to produce fish.

This story is more of a scare than horror. Last year my brother-in-law and I were fishing in the FL. Everglades during a low water period. For those of you who do not know, low water period means alligator congregation. We were fishing an area that happened to be occupied by at least 10 gators, that we could see. For some reason or another my brother-in-law had to stand up from his seat where he was fishing from and he lost his balance and fell butt first into the water to the point of complete submersion. In one split second he shot out of the water like a bat out of hell. The challenge that presented itself was that we were fishing out of a 16 foot aluminum boat so how to get him out of the water was going to be tricky. I laid down across the deck and helped him get his leg over and from there he was able to get on board safely. This whole time the alligators were more amused than anything else. After I realized we were out of danger, I laughed so hard I almost pee'd in my pants. My brother-in-law was not so amused, but to see a grown man fall in the water and shoot out of the water at the velocity and get back on board the boat at the speed that he did it was funny.

AK-NJ, I stand corrected. Looks like your king of the hill for the month of June. Great Job. You stuck with it. It's too bad other local members do not participate. If BocaBasser put up his number's it would be a no contest.

I think Fster beat you out AKN by 1 inch, if I am not mistaken. I could be wrong. Either way really close battle guys congrats!!

So where did everyone finish this month?? I know I am done for June and some of July. All I know is I had fun trying to make something happen. I wanted to do a Miami Heat Game 6 comeback however it didn't happen. Congratulations to whomever the winner is. Fishing has been tough.

Welcome to summer bass fishing South FL. style. I was curious when your area was going to be affected. I am basically done bass fishing for the month of June. I know I fell over 20 inches short to compete but I am content I was able to produce something this month. Fortunately, I was invited to do some offshore mutton fishing so June may not be all that bad. Enjoy fishing for snakeheads because bass fishing is going to get slower. Good luck.

Frog fishing is awesome. You have to tell your mind not the pull the trigger when instinctively its what you want to do when the fish blows up on the frog. You have to see and feel what's going after the brief commotion is over. Sometimes its obvious, the frog is completely gone and you see the line swimming away. SET THE HOOK when you see that. Other times the hit may be so ferocious that they knock the frog out of the water. Wait until the frog lands and watch what happens. The fish may come back to finish what it started. Some of the other explanations listed above are helpful. They may be small bass hitting at it. One thing that I have learned, that I will share with you is, when you set the hook, feel the weight of the fish and maintain constant tension. Take your time and do not be in such a rush to horse the fish up and in. I have had plenty of heart breakers by being over confident thinking the fish was hooked well and I over worked it and lost.

Diggy, you are not the only one. I have struck out for the last three days. I have thrown everything at them. I just came in after fishing a couple hours around canals in my neighborhood and I swear to God I saw tumbleweed. It was a virtual ghost town. The only highlight of the last three days is I caught a pretty nice mayan cichlid on a swim bait. My fishing elbow has flared up a bit but I just can't quit knowing that bragging rights are at stake. But you know what? I think fishing is done for a while until this heat settles, which will not be for months.

They do not get very big, and we have a lot of these down here. Just one of our many exotics

I had that happen once. One LMB and Peacock bass on some sort of jerkbait. Really fun.

Great catch. I have never fished a swim bait before of that size. I can only imagine the excitement when bass loads up on it .
