I used one for a while. Its ok. It gets the job done. For a little bit more I got the Revo S and I love that reel. Also the Lews model that runs for $99 and sometimes seen on sale at Dicks for $89 is also a great reel.

Keep at it, and also be aware of the angle of your hookset. Depending on how the bass took the frog will depend on how you set the hook. Now if your night fishing, then I agree its a feel thing. However during the day, observe the frog and when a bass blows up on it wait to see if the frog is gone and then swing for the fence. If a bass just slurps the frog like an oyster, observe that it indeed took the frog and then set the hook.

I use a heavy rod mainly because of the area I fish. The nastier the better. I fish alot around dense lily pads so with a heavy rod I have the confidence to work a fish out of that cover. A MH rod I once had did not bode so well. As far as distance. Not one problem, the rage has micro guides so it can cast the frog pretty far.

I use 7'4, H, x-fast , St. Croix Rage. I am currently using #50 PP. No problem sticking them and working them back to the boat with that set up.

The color configuration and pattern is completely different and you are not the only one to make that mistake. MC's are also very fun to catch.

I currently have a 2nd Gen SX for my frogging reel and I really like it. The 3rd gen SX's are lighter and bit smaller, great modifications in my book. The only experience I have with Lews is the MG speed spool and IMO its also a great reel.

I would not be concerned if you can't walk the frog. When you put a real live frog in the water and watch it swim does it swim side to side? Think about it.

Its possible. Rockchalk, brings up a good point. Were there any marks in he fish's mouth that showed it was recently caught? Looking at both pics there is a mark along the gill plate that looks similar.

I would find the owner and then kindly ask if you can borrow it from time to time.
