Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
I have been following MLF much more closely in recent years, so there are a lot of names in BASS that are completely foreign to me, but I will give it a shot if anybody is welcome to join.

Another reason I like the MLF format better.

I think MLF needs a rule change
I like that they don’t use nets. It’s brings an added level of difficulty to the competition.

Thank you. That was bugging since the show this weekend.

BASS AOY race question
How is Steve Kennedy ahead of Mike Iaconelli when Iaconelli finished higher than Kennedy in the only tournament fished this year?

Gerald Swindle's Day 2 catch disqualified
And that's my point, what is the rule? I understand the need to adhere to each individual state's laws, but I think BASS needs to spell out some universal laws so everybody knows what they are. If he goes by at 50 feet, maybe some camera men are alright with that and some aren't. As it is, Trip is left to the interpretation of a camera man and a shot that might be at a bad angle to determine what to do. In Swindles case he was DQ'd for violating the "safe boater rule", but that rule does not define what is and is not a safe boater. He was also DQ'd for the sportsmanship rule, and that rule does not spell out any specifics of what are the offenses deemed DQable. The rules are to vague. If there was no camera, he wouldn't be DQ'd because it would fall under the old saying, "I can't define what is in bad taste, but I know it when I see it." Rules should not come down to being able to see it to interpret them, they should be spelled out so everybody knows going into the event what is allowed and what is not.

Gerald Swindle's Day 2 catch disqualified
I thought it was pretty obvious from his comments when it happened and later as they were docking. I also thought I had read somewhere that those kind of things have to come from other competitors or else anybody could start lodging complaints for no reason against anglers they don't like (??).

Gerald Swindle's Day 2 catch disqualified
I'm alittle torn. I feel he was in the wrong in hindsight, but in the heat of battle I don't think he thought he was doing anything wrong, and I think the DQ was questionable. To play devil's advocate a little: When there is 500 thousand dollars on the line, there needs to be a more specific set of rules as to what constitutes a violation and subsequent DQ. The rules are very vague and open to interpretation. Someone may feel that something is safe and gets DQ'd for something they do all the time that somebody else takes offense to. When somebody goes to a baseball or basketball game, they are given a seat and are not allowed on the playing field. How can you keep a safe distance from other boats when they are allowed to go where ever they want? I also think that all complaints should be made public. If Randy Howell felt that he was really put in danger and that Swindle affected his fishing somehow, he should have to file the complaint in front of Gerald, or at least with Gerald knowing that he was the one who did it. Acting like he was on Geralds side later when they talked, but really saying nothing, was a bit shady. "He should be mad because he had a nice limit and could have been in contention to win this thing." He didn't say that he should have been mad because he didn't do anything wrong. He acted like it wasn't him, like was on Swindle's side.

BASS or FLW?
When Rucks was making all his changes he first threw out the idea of a tiered system for paying to fish in the tourneys. It was like $1500 to get into a tourney, another $1500 to fish the top 50, and another $1500 for the top 12. After all the anglers complained it was changes to a straight $5000 per tournament.

BASS or FLW?
I prefer the BASS for a couple of reasons. First, most of my favorite pros fish that series. And more importantly, I like the extended schedule. I like the number of events and the fact that the schedule is spread out for an entire spring and summer so you get to see the pros fish a lot of different styles, and only anglers who are versatile are going to win Angler of the Year. I'm not a tournament angler myself right now (maybe in the future), so for me it's about entertainment value.

numbers or size - what takes more skill?
Here's a thought that just came to me. What proves somebody's angling abilities? Is the ability to catch a lot of fish or the ability to catch big fish? To me it seems the former is more about skill and the latter is about being lucky in the bites that you get. What if tournament fishing set a size limit and then set the boats out in the water and the winner was the angler who got the most fish in the boat, and not the one who got lucky enough to have the biggest fish bite your bait? You could do catch and immediate release, as long as you have trust worthy people in the boat taking the numbers down. Would this work?

I think Edwin Evers has a good chance this year.

"BASS Madness" book review
I agree, the history lesson was very informative. And I don't want it to sound like the book was all negative or inacurate. I agree with some of what he wrote, take for instance his view on Marty Stone. He can't figure out why Marty Stone gets any publicity considering how bad he was fishing at the events covered in the book while people who fished well got virtually no T.V. coverage. I'll take it a step further than just those 2 tournaments, Marty Stone hasn't done much in any event in the last few years and yet still gets a lot of coverage, which I don't understand. The Gerald Swindle thing is a little different. Even though he wasn't fishing well, he is a very good speaker and entertainer in front of a crowd, so his coverage makes more sense to me.

"BASS Madness" book review
I recieved this book for Christmas under the assumption that Ken Schultz was writing about the 2 previous Bassmaster Classics from behind the scenes and with an unbiased approach. I was forwarned that by the end of his endeavor he had developed a semi-negative outlook towards ESPN/BASS by a *** . com review of the book. I found it to be quite different. He seems to come into the book with a very negative view of how ESPN runs BASS. While the book is still a good read, it gets hard to look past his slanted view of everything, sometimes seemingly getting facts wrong in an attempt to show his disdain for how things are run. Though he never admits his reasons for his dislike of ESPN/BASS, there are reasons given that may contribute to it. (I'll try to not give too much away). He does a great job with his history lessons on the origins of bass fishing, tournament fishing, BASS and FLW. And that seems to really be where his talents lie - in giving facts and telling you how things happened mixed in with good anecdotes. Overall, a good read for any fan of tournament fishing.

Chapman whining again...
If I don't care for the topic of conversation in a certain thread, I stay out of that thread and let the people who care about a certain topic have their way with it. I wouldn't write about how I'm not going to write anything. And I wouldn't write about how the conversation is beneath me and I don't like it. That wouldn't make much sense, now would it?

Bass tournaments on tape
I have. Never got any response, though.

Chapman whining again...
But Skidder is right. He complains about individuals marketing themselves as "Dennis Rodman types" rather than let the media and the public see them only for their fishing, yet all he does in front of the media and public is whine. And it's what he's becoming known for.

How does BASS do it's scoring for AoY?

Chapman whining again...
Why is it that every time somebody puts a microphone or pad of paper in front of Brent Chapman he whines about Mike Iaconelli? This time the NPR was doing a story on the growing popularity of professional bass fishing and the first comment out of Chapman's mouth is: "I've tried to make a name for myself by being professional, I think some other people try and go the opposite route," Chapman says. "Try and do the Dennis Rodman-type stuff. I think the fishermen that try and do that, they are going to be a flash in the pan." Iaconelli responds with a dignified: "It's nice that you're seeing different personalities," Iaconelli says. "I don't think you want to see one personality across the board. And so we've got a whole bunch of different kinds of people here. And when you show that, it's great because people can relate to those personalities, and it's nice to have that." I don't know if it's personal or professional jealousy, but Chapman needs to get over whatever it is about Ike that bothers him. He is no flash in the pan, and he's not going anywhere for a long time. For the whole article: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6168653

Boat Wraps. Your favorite?
For some reason when I see a jolly big guy fishing out of a boat that has "BEEF O'BRADYS" all over the side it forces a grin on to my face.
