  1. The Tatula SV is well worth the cost over the type R, I can't believe how well it casts not having the free floating spool
  2. Oops, Sh or Sha spools would be pretty cool in an SS SV. It's the HA spool I was thinking of that is similar to the Z spool. I think you'd be making a Steez with a few less bearings, kind of like sticking a TDZ-100 Spool in a Fuego. Which makes a killer reel!
  3. Actually I think they are all going to be pretty similar. I've put the Steez spool in Z's a couple times and didn't notice much difference. I think the RC 1016 would be a nice fit for the SS SV. Kind of hard to find now
  4. I don't think they make one yet. Could be wrong but I've never seen one
  5. One small drop of the Abu oil would be fine. Anyone with doubts on this reel just read the tackle tour review, very high grades at the 300 price point, for $160?its a steal. Great brake system also, same as the mgx and you can actually find a decent amount of upgrade tuning parts
  6. Abu typically over oils and over grease's their reels. If you flush the bearings and re-lube with a drop of good reel oil it will free spool for a loooong time. Helps pitching more then overhand casting. Really great all purpose reel, light but can be a beast
  7. The great thing about Daiwa. Plug an SV spool made last month into a reel made 15-20 years ago. I just took the SV spool out of my SS SV and swapped it with Gigas in a Z-103. The SS SV is now a lot more free casting, haven't tried the Z with the SV yet
  8. I honestly hope they never will be outdated either. I've had several SV reels and haven't been ready to say they are the best ever. What got me on this topic is the Tatula SV I just started using, it will outcast any of my Z's and they all have hedgehog or Boca bearings and a couple have R+ spools. Will the Tat be going strong in 15 years like a Z?? Who knows. Really just trying to start a topic NOT about Kastking!
  9. With Daiwa's new line-up of SV reels has the TD-Z finally reached a point where it can't be tweaked and tuned to a point that it's the equal of today's reels? My gut says probably yes. Up until a couple years ago I think you could build a Z to be better then any Tatula or New Zillion but with the SV's being as good as they are out of the box it just isn't worth it any more. No doubt the Z is a classic and I'll still use mine but maybe it's showing its age.
  10. I missed the sale but those that scored the premier got a great deal. I'm happy with mine at $219. They are an under appreciated reel. I'm not the biggest ABU fan but the MGX and the Premier are both really good Baitcasters.
  11. KVD L&L for sure, I really think it helps on FC and mono quite a bit. I use it on braid at times but really don't need to. Reel magic is good for 1 thing. It keeps guides from iceing up in winter weather. I tried Ardents line conditioner once and it was like dipping my reels in bacon fat. I had to break down every reel and give them a complete cleaning. It even made it to the spool bearings, total mess
  12. Your correct and I should know that, I've built 2 Fuegos and 3 OG zillions. Talk about a brain fart. Go with a Tatula SV great reel
  13. Just a thought, the Fuego is a great old reel. You could put a SV spool in it and really increase its capabilities
  14. Probably, the SV principle is a much softer spring on a light inducter. The softer spring puts the mag brakes in play much sooner at slower spool speeds. The lighter inducter allows faster spool starts up. That all equals being able to cast lighter lures with less effort and no backlash. It stands to reason that the softer spring and lighter inducter (less momentum) equals less long cast ability but again almost no backlashes. This is strictly my take on the SV concept. TT's review of the SS SV has a good explanation. Think it's a great system as long as you realize what your getting. My problem is that after years of tuning my reels to operate as lose and free as possible, it's a big change using an SV spool. The Tat SV seems to have it all figured out though
  15. The 1016 spool would be a good choice but getting hard to find
  16. Any 103-105 size TD-Z, Steez, 1016 there is a lot of choices
  17. The SS SV is way over braked compared to my other SV's . I even think the SV105 is a little over braked. I guess that is the SV concept, removing a lot of backlash needs a little more brake. I wonder I I put boca ceramic bearings in it and run them dry it would speed up the spool a little
  18. I may try and swap out spools with A T3-1016 and see what happens. Although the T3 isn't very receptive to Gigas or Steez 103-105 spools. Maybe the SV spool will fit and I'll have a T3-SV and a SS-1016.
  19. Haven't tried it with anything remotely light weight yet. Honestly I never planned on it. Now I'm going to give it a try just to satisfy my own curiosity.
  20. Agreed, my first impression is that it's a terrific all purpose reel.
  21. It's possible that the Tat SV will handle some pretty light weights but it's a bit bulky for most rods I would use for finesse fishing, not that its huge but it's not SV 105 size
  22. All I can say is "WOW" I'm shocked at how far and how smooth this reel casts out of the box. Only had it out a couple times throwing 5/8 Lipless cranks on 14# sniper but jeez I've got other reels that cost a lot more that can't match it. I know distance isn't everything, but the ease off casting this reel is pretty cool. Wish my SS-SV shared some of these traits
  23. The AGS versions guides are VERY delicate, no fluoro leaders on braid with these baby's. they will break the guides
  24. Rumor is that the signature elite is a steez blank. Handled several and they really are spectacular feeling. As for the Tatula 7'1 I have 2 and love them. I think they are a nice all purpose rod
