  1. I put owner stinger hooks on all my pop r and spooks.that's about it for mods I do I will play around with paint when I get really bored.
  2. have not used the aetos rods or ever seen one in person they seem to be very nice rods.i am a fan of the hmx and hmg rods imho the hmg is such an underated rod.the hmg rods are sensitive light weight and have alconite guides all for around 120.00 next to powells to me they are one of the better rods for the money.the 7'9'' heavy aetos looks really solid as a flip pitch punch and swimbaits rod.which aetos rods are you looking at to maybe buy.
  3. scored a bunch of line and tungsten weights from my walmart.I will buy tungsten all day for 2.50 per pack and line for 2.50 per spool.also bought some dt 4 for 2 bucks.
  4. I would keep it throw some 6 or 8 pound line on a reel and use it for drop shot shakey heads general finesse stuff.spinning rods are a great tool to have in your arsenal.
  5. gone back to using mono for all my fishing except for one rod with 65 pound braid.I was using fluro for just about every thing for 2 years its good but I missed the give in mono and when fishing shallow and close it just feels better to me.
  6. x2 the powell max 766 is a beast of a rod
  7. I decided to go through a tote I keep all my various plastics in after reading this thread in an attempt to get everything organized.by the time I was done all I could think was how did I end up with 30 unused packs of havok baits.then I remember buy one get two free.also found some yum fat money minnows in trout pattern.feeling good about getting organized.
  8. tear off all my old jig trailers and put new ones on.re spool all my reels after cleaning and sharpen hooks.
  9. powell endurance 764 or my custom nfc they go any time i go out.
  10. smelly jelly craw scent.I agree with scent when fishing colder water I also use it in really dirty water.
  11. powell rods.best gear purchase as far as a deal was the quantum tour edition reel i bought brand new from dicks on a crazy clearance sale for $25.00.
  12. if you know for sure your going with a powell I would bump up to a heavy.1/4 to 1oz 4 power is what the non flipping powells will run out in a heavy.I recommend a heavy for your jigs and frogs.i feel the 4 power powell will be more versatile but this is just my opinion.the 714 endurance is one of my favourite worm and jig rods great tip with plenty of backbone. I also use the max 703cef for t-rigs and lighter jigs in more open water and it works great.I honestly don't think you can go wrong with mh or heavy in the powell line but for versatility the heavy is better in my opinion.
  13. that smallest hooks I have use are 4 with 2,1,1/o being my most common. remember hooks will vary between manufacturers and not all size 1 hooks will be the same size.I have actually gone away from most drop shot specific hooks and use owners ssw which are octopus hooks.
  14. every one is going to have varying opinions on fluro.I think fluro has it advantages and disadvantages like all lines.I used fluro for a long time and almost all the top brands. of all the ones I used shooter was my favourite for casting reels and sniper for spinning reels.I had to many negative experiences with fluro and have since switch backed to mono and copoly lines.I fish shallow most of the time and usually up close and personal.I missed the give mono had when combat fishing.I think the best thing you can do is try fluro and see if you like it.I feel that its important to buy a quality fluro line in order to get an accurate impression of how it handles.to me trying new stuff and experimenting are part of the fun in fishing, you won't know if you don't try.
  15. try the river2sea you will not be disappointed. great bait with great build quality.
  16. I like both but for different reasons.on a longer rod I prefer a full handle like on a swimbait rod.it just seems more comfortable when I really want to rear back and hurl a bait with two hands.on my spinnerbait rod I like a shorter handle split grip it just feels more comfortable.
  17. river2sea bubble popper and the jackall sk pop grande.hard to beat the rebel pop r for the money they are great lures.
  18. big game in 12 or 15 lbs test.can be had at walmart for cheap.I would also recommend a 3/8 or 1/2 practice plug or jig for learning to cast with.
  19. square bills, jerk baits, and smaller top water stuff.weight less plastics would also throw well with that rod.
  20. this reminds me I have a bunch of berkley hand pours in tequila sunrise colour I need to dig out
  21. higher max drag on some reels.it seems silly to me when a reel has a max drag of ten pounds.might have to get me some revos i like the 20lbs max drag.
  22. I use the biggest hook I can without impeding the action of the bait.
  23. zara spooks .I used to fish them all the time but put them aside for sammys and bonnies.back to using more spooks and loving them.another thing I went back to using all the time is copoly line.I'm glad to hear that the beast is a good bait I bought a bunch when wholesale sports had them on sale for .50 a bag.I have never used them but liked how they looked and for the price I got 10 packs in various colors.
  24. the best I can tell the spool and drag system are better on the arid.they have the same max drag since both are the same price I would go with the arid.
  25. going to pick some up and try them out.jig trailer maybe?
