  1. Truly disgusting. I found an online petition that is being sent to ESPN, The Outdoor Channel and other Houston sponsors. I have signed it and it only takes a minute of your time. Here's the link: http://www.petitiononline.com/020206
  2. to clear up any confusion, Canadian Tire is like the Canadian version of WalMart. They have a bit of everything. I have no idea why it has the name.
  3. Reels: Shimano Rods: build my own Line: Seaguar flourocarbon, P-Line mono, and Power Pro braid Baits: Use them all, but really like Reaction Innovations, Zoom, Bandit, Lucky Craft, All Terrrain, Nichols
  4. Sorry, that was not Gerald Swindle that used the chainsaw. It was David Dudley. Dudley won the tournament.
  5. Charley Hartley. Not a very well known tour pro, but a super nice guy and one of the best smallmouth fisherman on the planet.

No, you have not purchased a defective rod. Finding the spine of the rod is a way to get the most out of your blank. It is a little time consuming and not used by the big companies. Guides are placed on the spine for casting rods and opposite the spine for spinning. This ensures that your rod is always bending in its most comfortable pattern, reduces twisting, and adds casting distance. I'm sure ReelMech will attest some manufacturers offer blemish blanks, but they are advertised as such and you get what you pay for. All blanks from reputable companies are the same as they use on their own mass manufactured rods.

Once a rod is complete and has a full set of guides on, it is basically impossible to tell where the original spine would be. When a guide is placed on a rod, that spot is now stiffened, basically changing the natural spine of the rod. Custom built is the best way to ensure your rod was setup perfectly.
  8. MinnKota cable steer. I've had it on my last 3 boats and see no reason to change in the future.
  9. You can order online at www.lurehardware.com
  10. KVD once said, if you tied a smallmouth and largemouth tail to tail, the smallmouth would drown that largemouth. I agree 100%.
  11. KuBassmaster, you are right, Champlain is incredible. I only got to spend 6 days on the water out there 2 summers ago, but they were great. We launched out of Plattsburgh, NY. You need way more than a week to really see that lake, but we caught tons of bass, both smallmouth and largemouth. There were also more perch in that lake than I have ever seen.
  12. You are gonna get a lot of different responses, and all of them will probably be correct. I can only speak from experience. Lake Guntersville is my all time favorite, I get down there several times a year. The Big G has both numbers and size, plus you can catch them in some of my favorite ways: frogs on top, flipping 1oz. jigs in grass and ripping lipless cranks. I also have to give a nod to Lake Erie. Best smallmouth fishing I have ever seen. 30+ fish days with plenty in the 4+ class.

Great setup Reemech. Mine is nothing worth taking a picture of. I have a decent workbench in the garage, but I can only tie out there in the summer. In the winter it is into the spare room on a old table. I use an Amtak wrapper and a Delta Midi lathe for cork.

  15. I personally could care less what someone chooses as a user name. I do however find it ironic that someone with the word "Killer" in his title would be bothered.
  16. My parents live on an inland lake in the Detroit area. My mom has a bass she calls Buster, about 2 pounds. He has stayed in the area of their dock for the last 2 years. When he hears you step on the dock, he comes running along with a huge pack of bluegill. You can lay on the dock and feed him worms by hand. He will even follow you as you walk between the two docks. I had him eating baitshop minnows last summer, it was cool to see him dart and catch them. She had to stop feeding him because the lake was starting to freeze up in places and he was still around shore. If he doesn't come back next year, she will be crushed.

Thanks guys. Good looking work ReelMech. I use Tap pigments in the epoxy, just a tab on a toothpick. I have heard of using Testors, but have not tried that yet.

This is a dropshot rod made for a Penn State fan. I'm not much of a thread wrap guy, so I marbled the epoxy.
  19. I tow my 2003 Champion 193 with a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. Yep, its got a Hemi.
  20. Here's my 2003 Champion 193 with 200hp VMax.

    Nice work Cedar!
  22. I fish any chance I get, but I choose tackle, presentation, location, etc based on the current conditions. The only time I will let conditions change my plans is if I am heading out on the Great Lakes. You have to respect the conditions on bodies of water like that.

I've had guys politely ask me not to cast around their boat and I have moved on, no problem. I've had some throw out the 4 letter words and threaten to call the cops and I have informed them that what I am doing is perfectly legal, moved on, and no problem. Sure it can be annoying, but its their day that seemingly got ruined, I'm still fishing.
  24. 6-10 LM, caught last October on lake Guntersville. I know thats not that big by the Big G's standard, but I will be back this spring.
  25. Its a great show, but that guy dressed in a refs uniform is cheezy.
