  1. That's why I started finess fishing. When all else fails I go to 4 or 5 inch worms, 1/16 or 1/8 oz. slip sinker and go slow in the same places, then move deeper. I also use a drop shot on a grass line and then move away from it. Also try this on points and underwater weedbeds. Sometimes I will pull out my ultra light with a beetlespin and save the day! And yes, I have gone all day with catching zero bass. Enjoy the wildlife and hope you have a good partner!
  2. Don't run into too many of the rock walls where I fish but I know I would throw a dropshot when the bite stopped. Maybe work it out a little deeper towards your boat.
  3. I have a canvas worm bag that I store all of my plastics in and they are in the original zip lock bags. Right now there are 34 bags in it. Before I fish, I put the ones I think I will use in a plastic container about the size of a shoe box and place it one of my front deck lockers for easy access. Just looking in that locker I have 8 bags of worms ready for tomorrows trip. Works for me.
  4. Startled many times.
  5. Producto Lure Company, Sanford, Florida sells 100 count bags.
  6. Bass Pro Shop/ WalMart/Gander Mt. You can get a good outfit that will do the job for $80 to $100.00 , and your Dad will like it. I just outfitted a young man, 14 years old, with a 6 foot Berkley Lightning Spinning Rod, Medium Action - $40, Phluger (spelling?) reel, $39.00, 8 pound Green Trilene XL, $8. He catches bass (3 pounds his largest) with it on every trip we take.
  7. 1/8 oz. and 3/16 oz most of the time. I may go to 3/8 if I need more. I believe the lighter the better with plastic worms.
  8. That's why I learned to Finess Fish. On tough days I can go to smaller and slower and usually catch a few. You are not alone.
  9. If I see action on top at the grass lines I will throw a dropshot next to the grass. Weight may be 15-18 inches above sinker.
  10. One Flipping 3/8 oz. pegged slip sinker Two Pitching 3/16 and 1/8 oz slip sinkers One Drop Shot One Charlie Brewers Slider 1/4 oz.or for Mojo Worm rig One Charlie Brewers Slider 1/8 oz One for Crankbaits/Spinner Baits One ultra light with Beetle Spin So..... 2 Spinning and 6 Casting Outfits. I use about half on them in a morning of fishing. Hardly ever throw cranks or spinner baits. I like lead and plastic.
  11. I got a great book from the Dept. of Natural Resources here in Florida many years ago on aquatic vegetation. Try there or maybe Fish and Game.
  12. Great advise from WRB. I look for spawning areas then go to the points closest to them and start. I will sometimes use a 4 inch slider worm or a 1/8 or 3/16 oz. mojo rig with a 4 inch or 6 inch BlackGrape or Watermelon Red Producto worm, (best high floating worm I know) on it. Like the 1/4 oz. dropshot too. Good luck. Points, Point to Bass!
  13. Weightless 10 inch zoom worm, #3 or 4 ought hook, at least 14 pound test line. 'Throw it out and move it slowly back.
  14. 5 inch Zoom Finess Worm, in my waters it's Watermelon-Red
  15. I do a lot of finess fishing and I use several, both bait casting and spinning. But the important thing for me is that they are light weight and Medium Action with a fast tip. Works great for weightless worms,Charlie Brewer's slider system, dropshot, etc.
  16. If you are like me I carry too much stuff. Use 2 or 3 color/type worms but carry 30 -40 bags ub a worm bag. I am going to get a small tacklebag and only put in it what I fish. Then I won't spend time looking thru stuff I don't use. Good luck with your shopping.
  17. Took my nephew fishing after a cold front, didn't catch a thing in the AM, about 1 o'clock I was throwing a real light lipless crankbait over ell grass. Set the hook on a 10 pounder, got it to the boat and my partner hesitated in lipping it, (I had left my net at home.) I brought it around again and he went to grab it and the tiny hooks came out!
  18. In the area of Florida I live in the water fluxuates for several reasons. I have found that the bass follow the water levels. Right now I am catching good fish in the canals that have risen appox. 1 1/2 - 2 feet since the tropical storm. I found them within two days after water level rose. Most of the fish I am catching do not reside in the canals but in the deeper grass lines and points outside the canals. I can tell by the color of them.
  19. Great place to test lures and techniques.
  20. Zoom Finess Worms in watermelon red and Innovation 4 inch worm, same color.
  21. Been using the old barrel type Abu-Garcias for over 35 years and love them. They are my workhorses.
  22. In Florida for the summer it would be a watermelon red Lake Fork Flipper, for flipping/pitching and a watermelon red Innovation finess worm on a 1/4 oz. drop shot for points with underwater weed beds.
  23. If you are bank fishing you may not be able to reach them. They have gone deeper in the small ponds. In several ponds on a large horse farm you could catch 10 every 30 minutes within 60 feet of shore. Now you have to take a jon boat out to the middle to catch them.
  24. I purchased a left handed baitcaster for flipping. Handles got in the way so I went back to switching. The left handed reel makes a great pitching reel for me though. I have set the hook with my thumb holding down the line before engaging the handles!
  25. Middle of the day, sloping points and banks at the 6 to 8 foot depth of water using 1/4 oz. drop shot rig, watermelon red 4 and 5 inch worms, (sometimes rigged wacky on the drop shot), 10 # test mono on spinning gear. Also flipping grass lines in 4 plus foot water with watermelon red flipper by Lake Fork with pegged 3/16 oz. titanium slip sinker, 17# test mono.
