  1. I was thinking the same things when I picked it up. Its not gonna break my heart to not use it. I could at least take it out just cruising around and see if I just like kayaking to begin with. But I will certainly try to make something work. It seems pretty easy to escape if rolls.
  2. I borrowed a kayak from my father to give fishing from one a try. I cant permanently modify it as its not mine. I was hoping someone could give me a couple of ideas for cheap and/or DIY temporary mods that will make fishing from it a bit easier, more enjoyable, etc. I dont even know what would really need to be done, but I figure a way of holding/securing two rods is called for and some way of securing or holding my tackle would be nice. Any other advise is welcome! It probably isnt going to need to be anything that will hold up for a really long time considering I plan on picking one up for myself soon if I like it. Thanks.
  3. I just picked up the shellcrackers and rigged them on my swim jigs. I was the only one today not catching dinks. It was hilarious to watch my friend try to catch a bass that was right in front of him only to have it take my bait as I swam it passed his!!!! So far so good!!
  4. I just ordered some more from you as a matter of fact! But to be honest it was probably actually around 5 MAYBE 6 pounds. It was really tough to tell and I was REALLY excited haha. I guess I'll have to go back and catch her again now that I have a scale.
  5. BTW I am in S/E NY if that helps any. Im sure that regional locations have an effect on where the fish are in the spawning stages.
  6. Yesterday I went out for the third consecutive day of fishing and I got skunked. The first two days were outstanding! They were hitting almost everything that I was throwing out there. I used topwater frogs, jigs, and swim jigs. I know that yesterdays weather was very different from the two days prior. Yesterday was sunny and about 65, and the two previous were raining and cold/windy with temps in the mid 40's to lower 50's. But I didnt think that would have such a huge impact in my ability to land anything. Maybe I was wrong(?) Yesterday I didnt get a single hit on anything other than a swim jig. They never bit they just seemed to knock the bait every once in a while. I figured the fish would be behaving differently, and expected to have to change things up. I slowed down and reduced bait size when I couldnt get anything and still nothing. I changed colors, I threw all different kinds of baits; jigs, swim jigs, top water frogs, soft plastic swim baits, worms, fat ika's... basically everything I have. Is it the weather or perhaps spawning behavior that changed? Maybe a combination? I was fishing the some of the same areas as the previous days so I know that there are plenty of fish there. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I really want to figure this stuff out so I can have a plan the next time this happens.

Thanks for mentioning that! I had never seen that before. I'll be trying that soon. The swim jig has become a favorite of mine.
  8. I like to treat people the way they treat others. Give them a taste of their medicine. Thats all they deserve. To each his own I guess, but while some people turn the other cheek I'll be the guy smacking them back.
  9. Great video! Makes me want to finally get a kayak. Ive been doing good bank fishing lately but a small boat opens up so many doors.
  10. Well... Technically Ive fished a jig before but Ive really only swam them because I had no idea how to really fish them. This afternoon I had gone out and gave jig fishing a try. I have to thank everyone here for the guidance. I got a couple of hits on my swim jigs... But then decided it was time to give some of my new siebert jigs a try. I tied one on, cast it out there, and did exactly as Glenn talked about in his videos. As soon as it hit the bottom i gave it a quick shake without lifting it and this is what bit... I wish I had a scale or tape measure with me. But either way this was the biggest bass Ive ever caught! I figure it was somewhere around 7lbs (?) I cant believe the first time fishing a jig the way I was supposed to and this is what happened lol. Needless to say, Im addicted now. Thanks again to everyone here for posting all of the information that you guys do. And I am especially thankful to Glenn May for all of his videos. Over the last two days Ive caught one dozen fish using top water frogs, swim jigs, and jigs (now the correct way), which is up from two fish total last year HAHA! All thanks to the info. posted on here!
  11. So far I like TW. Ordered my rod and now my reel. Cant beat the shipping prices. I only wish that they had a "wishlist" like Basspro does on their site.
  12. Could you imagine shopping at the DSG that Iaconelli used to work at when he was working !?!?!?! LOL I agree with the sentiment that the staff isnt very knowledgeable, but they are nice...
  13. This may sound kind of silly, and perhaps I should start another thread for this, but I signed up for the bassmaster fantasy fishing, yet I dont really know how it works LOL. Im really excited about doing this but Ive never gotten into fantasy football or anything like it. Im still learning the ins and outs of the sport and the anglers. Ive read the descriptions of how this works but I need something along the lines of construction paper, crayons, macaroni, and stick figures to really get a grasp of whats going on...
  14. I just went through the same ordeal. I needed an all around setup and settled very close to what has been suggested above. Not to take this thread off course but since we're talking multipurpose, what would the line selection be? Braid/mono/fluoro(?) weight(?) leader/no leader? (for braid). Not looking to make a debate or jack the thread, but curious to know what the consensus may be on the ideal multipurpose line to go with the rod/reel.
  15. Im taking a cross country trip next week. I'll be stopping by a basspro or cabelas and picking one up along the way. Gonna put it on the veritas rod I just ordered.
  16. Exactly! I love that they carry Zoom, and otherwise it seems like they have a good variety.
  17. I never thought of that. But then again I'd probably just order it online instead of asking them to do it.
  18. My goal this year is to catch fish! LOL Last year was the first time had gone fishing since I was a little kid and now Im hooked! Didnt have much success but my confidence has grown a lot thanks to this site and Gene's videos. I have to really try a few new techniques figure out which one(s) I like and focus on those. My overall goal for this year is to out fish all my friends and Im confident I will be able to. Just ordered my first baitcasting rod and will soon get a reel as well. Hopefully I'll have a good amount of practice under my belt by the time early spring comes around.
  19. I had no idea such a thing existed! Pretty neat. I wish I had a clue how to play and who to pick HAHA!
  20. Ive noticed mine restocking the shelves lately. One thing that kills me with the local DSG is they only seem to carry Zoom soft plastics with salt. No unsalted Zooms .
  21. Im pretty sure they watch me very closely when I got to DSG. I go in there at least everyother day. They probably think Im stealing everything but as you guys mentioned they dont advertise the clearance stuff. I swear it changes everytime I go in there! Cant help but take a look.
  22. This is where being single pays off!
  23. Brand loyalty makes sense to me. But it has its limitations. I dont understand people knocking other brands when they themselves have little to no experience with them, just to try to justify their purchases/preferences. But when someone has had great experiences with one brand and their product/customer service, I completely understand being loyal to a brand. Im fortunate that I am just breaking into this sport again and dont really have any bias towards any brands (yet). Im sure that will soon change. I can already feel the bug biting as I look for my first baitcaster and rod combo. It feels like the more settled I get on purchasing something the more attached to it I become. Its weird LOL.
  24. Will do! Texas is also at the top of my list. As far as attitudes in NY go its been my personal experience that the farther away you get from NYC the nicer people are LOL. In all honesty, Ive come to learn that there are jerks/idiots no matter where you go. I know a lot of really great and kind people around here and thats what saddens me the most about the possibility of leaving. I will definitely look into DFW area. Thanks again!
