If that's your price range, I don't think you can go wrong with the Veritas. I've had two and they definitely get the job done. Come to think of it, I caught my PB on the 6'9.

I like Reaction Innovation Skinny Dippers or Zoom Super Flukes. I usually use a steady retrieve while pumping the rod with a downward motion, but like MIbassin said, whatever your imagination desires. I use the same rod that I use for spinners and chatter baits - MH/F rod, 6.3:1 reel, 12lb Yo Zuri Hybrid.

What is your price range? I see you mentioned the Veritas, so I'm assuming around $100? I personally think its worth spending towards the top of your budget on bottom contact and finesse rods since sensitivity will be a large factor in detecting bites. For shakey heads, I primarily use a Dobyns Champion 702c with a Curado 51e. If you are sticking to the $100 price mark, also check out the Shimano Compre. I think its a great rod in that price range.

I know the OP was about football jigs, but if you are also looking for swim jigs, check out the Flip and Swim from North Star. They've become one of my favorite. Put a Rage Craw trailer on there, swim it like a swim jig or drag/hop/twitch it like a crawdad. Very versatile and quality jig IMO.

LMG said it. Longer rod = more line taken up. I prefer rods 7' - 7'5 for worms and jigs. Micro guides (I can't speak from experience) are supposed to decrease weight, increase casting distance and sensitivity, from what I've read. I don't mess with them because I've heard of leader knots knocking the inserts out.

In that case you'll be fine with your line up. Or switch the 7.0 and the 6.4 reels. Thats personal preference though. I never feel the need to fish a crank or spinner that fast.

Personally, I'd use the 7.0/7'MH set up for jigs, t-rigs, etc and I'd use the 6'6 combo for spinners. I don't like a fast tip for cranks but you could get away with them if you use mono. I would throw cranks on the m/f set up since it won't have AS much of a backbone to rip the trebles away from fish. For cranks, honestly, I would get a different set up, eventually with a mod action. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully its helpful haha.

From everything I could gather, your choice in the 7'2 H would be accurate. I've really struggled to find any solid reviews/discussions about the M1. From what I've read it sounds that it is a stout rod and more durable than the Recon. I've read some posts that said the Recon has breaking issues, but I've also heard that about the Veritas, and I have two of those that have worked flawlessly for what theyre worth. I've read some reviews that claim the M1 can pick up somewhere between 15-20lbs to a 90 degree angle and not break. Everything I've heard about the Recon has been that it performs above its price range. I was about to buy one until I started considering the M1. Then the monkey climbed on my back and started pointing me to more expensive rods. I'm debating right now between a Dobyns Champ 704c and the Phenix M1 7'2H. I would also be interested to hear if people have anything more to say about the M1 as well. Here is a link to the thread I started

He gave you those rod/reels???? Dang. A kayak might not be a bad idea. It also depends on what the specs are on those rods. I'd get a spinning set up for finesse applications. You might still have enough left over for a kayak with that budget.

Yeah, not sure about the finesse FC, but I love my Sniper.
