Powell 703Cb
I would imagine it would. I have the Endurance 695CB and it does a great job with all these applications so I have to think the Max would also work.

Veritas Vs Mojo Bass
IMO, I would go to a sporting goods/fishing store and handle both and see which one you like more because I feel like most people's recommendations between these two rods (Mojo and Veritas) will be personal preference. If I was to pick between the two though, I would pick the Mojo. Negatives on the Mojo, it is a bit tip heavy but other than that, for the price, it is a nice rod. Why I would pick it over the Veritas, I don't like the metal screwing component of the reel seat as I feel like it is a little rough on the reel when securing it. Its not going to ruin your reel by any means, but may show a little where its been. Also, I find the trigger to be a little uncomfortable on my fingers after fishing it a while. I have no experience with the Carbonlite but I feel like I have read enough positive reviews about it to say that it would be worth a look. The good thing, from my point of view, is you won't go wrong with any of them.

Max, Savvy, Magic
Skeletor! Thank you very much for all the information and insight! I already have a Powell Endurance crankbait casting rod and I have to agree with everything that has been said about it. It will be hard not to get another one especially with all the good things I've read on top of my own experience. However, it sounds like the Recon is exactly what I want out of this rod. I prefer cork, but foam does not bother me by any means. I fish a Mojo Bass for spinnerbaits which I find to be pretty tip heavy and it has not bothered this far. If the Recon is only a little tip heavy, I think it will be fine. The hook keeper is a bit odd... but fortunately I won't be fishing treble hooks on this rod so I think it will also be fine if I wind up getting the gen1. I'm looking to get one on black friday. Thanks again to everyone for their input. It seems that I've narrowed it down to two and it doesn't sound like I can go wrong with either which is never a bad situation.

12# Yo Zuri Hybrid. I like it.

Matching Equipment
As long as it is reliable quality and helps me catch fish, I couldn't care less if it matches. Fish don't care what my rod and reel look like together, but I do have to admit, if they do wind up looking good together, I get a little happy

Max, Savvy, Magic
I'm looking at upgrading some of my gear and want to get a rod that I will primarily throw 3/8 - 1/2oz jigs (maybe some 3/4 if I'm feeling crazy), t rigs, c rigs and maybe some heavier spinners (3/8 - 1/2oz ish). I don't fish any super heavy slop or anything like that but do cast into some submerged grass/weeds so I'm thinking something 7'ish MH/F. Like the title says, I'm debating between a Powell Max, Dobyns Savvy, and Duckett Magic (probably the macro, I plan on using braid and want to be able to tie a leader). Please let me know what you would choose and why, if you don't mind. Also if you have any other choices, throw them out there. Thanks very much in advance.

Veritas Vs Mojo Bass
Both are good. Also check out the Shimano Compre if you can. Its a good rod in that price range. I have a 6'6 M/F spinning compre and I use it for shakey heads and light t rigs.

Biggest Surprise/disappointment
Surprise: Wacky Rig Senko - I used to only fish them t-rigged, usually weightless. I just thought the wacky rig was awkward looking and had no confidence to try it out. Well, the bite was slow this past weekend, tried it out, and started catching bass every couple of casts. Disappointment: Z-man Chatterbaits - I've fished them a lot because I've heard so many good things about them. But I've only hooked up with one fish, and he threw it before I could even get him half way in.

Favorite Soft Plastics?
GY Senko's and 7'' Rage Tail Thumpers have gotten fish on a consistent basis for me.

Weightless Senko Rod
I've been using a M/F Shimano Compre spinning set up for weightless senkos and other similar applications. I just got the Dobyns 702c thats on sale at Cabela's and paired it with a Curado 51e. I'll get out within the week and let you know how this set up does. It seems like it will do a good job.

Casting Distance? Shimano Chronarch E Or Lews Tp
Don't have the Chronarch or the TP, but I do have a Curado 200G6 and Lews Tournament TS1HL both spooled with Yo Zuri Hybrid 12#. The Curado is on a 7' MH/F Mojo and the TSS is on a 7' MH/F Veritas, arguably similar rods. I'm starting to like my Curado more and more compared to the TSS. Not that the Tournament is a bad reel by any means, I like it a lot, but I do see a little extra casting distance on the Curado and remember the last time I back-lashed on it. I struggle a little bit more to get the Lews dialed in. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either reel though.

Spinnerbait Rods...
I use a 7' MH/F Mojo Bass with a Curado 200G6 spooled with 12# Yo Zuri Hybrid. I don't throw anything heavier than 1/2 oz though. If you want to throw up to 3/4 oz I think you use up to a H, but a MH would probably do fine IMO. It all depends on how "heavy" or "medium heavy" the rod actually is... As far as line, I wouldn't go anything less than 12# and probably go closer to 15#.

Rod Choice - Fast Action
I've got both the Mojo and Veritas in MH/F for casting. I definitely like them a lot. I don't know that you could really go wrong with any of the choices, but St. Croix does have a better rep IMO. If I had to choose between the Mojo and the Vertias, I would probably choose the Mojo, but not by much.

New To Tying Jigs
Thanks for the help cadman. I guess its just trial, error and practice now. Hopefully less error... I'll post some pics when I finally get around to tying some. Maybe some will even have bass stuck on them

Square Bill Rod
I've got the the Powell Endruance 695 CB. I like the rod a lot. Its light, sensitive and feels really nice in my hands. Its got a nice tip and plenty of backbone to rip trebles off of weeds. I'm not sure if its another part of the set up, but I don't think it handles small squarebills that well. Whenever I throw 1.0 - 1.5 size cranks they don't wobble/wiggle on the retrieve. Anything bigger though, its great.

What Is Your 50/51E Spooled With?
Yeah man! I think the grey/blue/black will go nice with the Curado. Hard to find rods that will match that green well. I can't wait till everything finally gets here. Its always encouraging to hear that you picked out a good set up, haha. I haven't been out in a few weeks so this will be a nice combo to get back out on the water.

New To Tying Jigs
When you say choosing by color what exactly do you mean? It seems that most rubber is in pretty basic, solid colors (brown, black, red, blue, etc.). So, for example, if you were tying a PBJ color scheme, would you use brown rubber and purple/tan silicone? Also, what effect will round rubber have vs. flat strands? I apologize for all the questions. I tend to like to know everything I can before I start something. Thanks for everyone's replies

New To Tying Jigs
I got a bunch of jig heads off the flea market a while back. They're just missing the skirts and I would like to tie my own. I would like to start with rubber/silicone first. So, my question(s) is/are... 1) I think I know everything I would need - rubber, silicone, wire/thread to tie the skirt material. Am I missing anything? 2) Where is your favorite place to buy skirt material? 3) What ratios do you use for rubber/silicone? I'm sure there is no one answer for this, so what are the effects on the jig of having more silicone than rubber or more rubber than silicone? 4) About how much material should I expect to put into one skirt for 2 different colors? 3 colors? Any other advice that would be helpful is also more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

Getting My First New Bait Caster Around Or Under 100
Ebay can be awesome if you're comfortable with it. Some don't trust buying off ebay. I've never had a bad experience. Also, keep your eyes on the flea market here. You can find some amazing deals. I've gotten brand new reels for close to 50% off of retail before. You may also want to save up for black friday. There should be some good deals then if you can wait.
