  1. i honostly did not thing it would matter but apperently it does when i throw a little harder with my pole with power pro its not different
  2. thats the thing though with my thumb on the spool its not when it hits that water its while its still in the air usually within the first 3 seconds of cast. just seems like even when i stop it my self the spool it self still moves a little
  3. ill keep that in mind. i always have my thumb on spool. ill also get the drag star tight. i been throwing bait caster's ever since i was time but always with power pro.i have always been fishign salt water stripers weakies blues etc. but i have been in a boat so i get were i need to be and only was casting maybe 15-30 yards max. i did notice that i wanted my last cast perfect just on the edge of the lily cove thats wear i have been getting the bass 99% of the time drawing them out from the pads so i threw harder to get to it. that does make since. i think i might just have to learn properly how to throw farther. don't know how true it is but some people claim they can cast 100 yards easy. but yea ill try the star, and hopefully that will work. even with my thumb on the line though at some point during the cast when the line stops coming out going further the spool still spins not every time but it does maybe thats when i try to throw hard to get further distance. when i throw gently i only get to about 20-25 yards but no problems when i try to throw hard to get more distance now that a few of you said something when i did get the back lash i was throwing harder then normal to get more distance.
  4. okay, while dealing with the mess my dad mentioned something that made a lot of sense. i don't know what the proper term is for what I'm going to describe but hopefully some one can help me get this fixed once and for all. when i cast i have my settings were they should be the only thing i don't touch is the drag star. i out the left brake to were the line only slowy falls when i shake rod. and the other brake that slows the fall up to about 7. on the way out casting when the line stops coming out the spool still spins wondering if thats what they consider back spin. when no more line is coming out the spool appears to keep spinning, leading my dad to think thats were the birds nest comes from. i had mentioned in another post i have always used power pro on all my salt water bait casters never any problems. i hope i described this as best as possible. it hit my dad when he was helping out trying to get the bad line off when we put it back together and got fresh good clean line left the line was un spooling on its own while trying to put it back together then he wanted to test something when we were pulling lien out after i stopped pulling some out he noticed the spool was still spinning for a short period after wards that leading him to believe thats what is happening on the water. im also goign to pick up some line conditioner at dicks its not kvd but i hope it will work as good.
  5. we took it apart very easy to do that and cut the string off managed to salvage about 50 yards. im goign to make a new thread im positive i know what shappening but dont know how to stop it.
  6. well i caved in and re spooled back up with mire fluro now that i have the adjustments right were i needed them another $12 down the drain. was goign good perfect until the last cast. back spin backlash birds nest what ever the he** this is is a complete mess. settings are were they need to be never taken my thumb of spool everything is the way i was told to keep it. i need help on taken apart the reel i hope to god i can or i will probably throw the d**n thing in the trash. im using 15# berkley trilene 100% fluro. i just dont get it so smooth then last cast i wanted to get a little further towards the wall of lil'ys and boom i dont know what happend other then weres my senko look down and i start blacking out. i cant get the line off by cuttign and pullign its so screwed up is there anotehr way to take the reel apart and just slide the line off?
  7. i texas rig them. alot of grass in the pond i fish. the only time i have ever used circle hooks is chunking season off shore. i have heard about that wacky rig or what ever its called but i dont have that tool to insert the oring. gotta try that one thing out that was posted with the rubber band looking things.
  8. thanks wish i new that before i went out
  9. i just started using senkos not to please how expensive they are and after 1-2 fish there destroyed but onto the next. i had put a senko on finally found a color that worked. the d**n bass swallowed it. was so far down was way in his throat down to his stomach. i have never had this issue before. i always get them by th elip they have never swallowed a whole hook. i could not get the hook out, and sad to say i dont think the poor fish made it. is there a certain tool thats easy for taken hooks out? i always used my own hand but of course this is the first time i could not get down to the hook. i have to run out to bestbuy tomorrow and dicks is right next door im hoping what ever i need they will have. any suggestions so this don't happen again?
  10. yea tried that i may have to get more line either stick with jerk 100% fluro 15# or try the yo-zuri and hope i can find kvd line conditioner
  11. i whip it kind of from the side similar motion to a base ball bat minus the starting point
  12. don't get me wrong i have tried out a e series curado. I'm used to top of the line high speed very smooth bait casters and the g series feels like a pile of garbage compared to a penn international, t.c. luna etc etc etc. I'm used to those style reels so thats why i don't really care for the lower end ones. even though a few people i know that fish tournaments for bass won't touch high end reels or rods. just asked why and they said why own a high end set up and use them in tournaments when you can brake them when I'm on my bass boat i may have 7-20 rods with me and the whole time i will be standing on them and stepping all over them.
  13. no i set it to 10 the issue got a little better backed it down a few and it was a complete nightmare all over i could still cast about 30-35 yards not like I'm trying to be 50-300 yards out like in the ocean trolling. and was always told you can't cast too too far other wise you won't catch anything its hard to set the hook if you have a lot of line out from what i was told. I'm going to pray the place i got it spooled up will give me a discount or more line i know the owner pretty well and maybe he has a trick for freshwater reels he's been using them for probably 20+ years mostly salt water though. some times i can't just go by the internet i need to see it done in person in order to get it right for some things
  14. okay. im stayin away from the curado they are way over priced considering revos are better. at least i like mine for i never had the e series but the g series feels like a cheap $30 throw away piece of plastic that you get in a starter kit. i honestly don't under stand why they charge $200 for the e series with there are others just as good and a lot less. you would think you could get at least the 50 g for a buck and a quarter or a buck 50 bnib.
  15. i was hoping i could find one at dicks sporting goods and possibly pair it with the shaman citica 200. i was in there the other day but they don't sell the st. croix mojo bass frog rod. they had a field and stream 7' heavy action extra fast. they did not have to many that were heavy action. they had the new abu garcia new technology rods there the verities they were 7 foot heavy but they don't or at least did not say if it was fast extra fast etc. i would like to know what the most common size rod action and all that is as well whats a good rod that dicks carries i wanna try to avoid buying online takes too long and shipping is expensive. only down side is they don't sell the spro frog there main frog is the kvd and I'm not sure if they are any good most people i know use the spros
  16. no tsure if I'm not fishing the senko right or if I'm using the wrong color but i been rigging it with a weight texas style not getting any action with it. i put on a standard worm and started getting some fish not many but i was getting some bites. i noticed with the worms that i believe I'm using some were from 5-8" i gotta get a tape out and measure to b exact. large mouth i am getting are not being hooked are 5"+ too big for bass? there just grabbing the back in of the worm. also is there a best way to fish plastic worms? I'm getting confused on how to work them. i was casting them and if i did not get a hit like i was told by some one else at the lake reel in fast and re cast if no bites as soon as the worm hits water you won't get one so reel in and do again. out of everything i have tried the lures i consider the best are not doing so well in the lake i been going to a lot recently such as hula popper, and whats literally deadly in another area i fish the super fluke in pearl white, baby bass, and watermelon is not catching a single thing. i can't even get a spinner to catch anything.i gave in went with a pack of worms i had and what do you know i get bites only a few not too many but still i got bites were the others i were not getting anything.
  17. also thanks for the help on the suggestions of what to do.
  18. got the problem resolved for most part. i put the brakes up to 10 on the right side brakes. i started gettign them again occasionally when i turned the other brake on left down to get better casting difference. went back to were it was before with no problem and I'm happy now. it will still do a sort of birds nest/backspin after a certain point when the line goes out about 10 yards or so then just before the line hits water when its dropping the birds nest goes away and fixes it self.
  19. i don't touch the brakes on the side (right side) i was told you only raise that when you want the lure to slowly fail into the water. ill give that a try. that also sucks if i need a new reel but when i was using mono and fluro when it came with my 2 salt bait casters there both big hold 300 yards it would do the exact same thing. I'm going to try adjusting that other knob on the right for the brakes all the way up and see if that helps any. if not when i go to get another reel spooled up later today with more braid ill talk to the guy to see what's going on he has been using bait casters probably as long as they been out. wonder if this is the main reason why people curse out mono and fluro on a bait caster and only use braid were i live.
  20. yea but did not have th one i was looking for the exact name at least i could not find it. any ways at least i know what I'm looking for now
  21. bait caster is brand new its the berkeley trilen 100% fluorocarbon, did the drop test that worked great. it don't birds nest right away its about 7 yards out. it won't do it every time most of the time it does. occasionally when it does not it just gets real lose and i have to take a minute click down and manually pull out until its back to tight line then manually reel in with pressure so its not loose. unless there is a different way of casting fluro over braid the way u have to hold the line while casting or pressure i don't know. the back lashes are annoying, and from what i hear fluro is great but i have been spending more time fixing the line then actually fishing with th eline testing it out. hope i can get this resolved for later on today when i go fishing so i can use it with hopefully no issues
  22. me personally i stay away from them. I'm just getting back into freshwater fishing but in salt water they are a big no no. to obvious to see and just very bad period. just to test out the difference between a direct tie with palomar knot vs a swivel on the same bait the one with no swivel produced a lot more fish then a swivel and swivels are probably your worst night mare when striper fishing. lines break to much because of them at least in my experiences. even when i go bass fishing i just got back into it again 2 weeks ago i never use swivels. they also ruin the true swim of swim baits. i can go on and on about my dis likes of them.
  23. I'm thinking about heading to the store later on today when i wake up its 12:40 am here and getting a frog set up. i was told to get the spros bronze eye frog. dicks don't sell them. is there any other good frogs out there? and the best color? also whens the best time of day to use frogs?
  24. okay cool. too bad dicks don't sell the spros bronze eye frogs i have to head out there any way to big up a frog rod and another reel. ill get some more senkos while I'm there
  25. i was referring to the whit mono and no it does not coil when coming out. i had had fluro on 3 different reels done it on all of them.
