  1. In the thicker weeds, use the same worm you would for a shakey head (like a zoom trick worm or a berkley shakey head worm) and texas rig it with a 1/8 oz or 1/6 oz wt. It penetrates better than the shakey head but the worm still has a seductive finesse action. I have caught fish on that rig this year when I couldn't get bites on anything else;)
  2. It is French. Its derived from the old french saying "Chez truce!" As in "hey we give up! lets make a truce or you can just take us over, or whatever you want, its fine with us." So then when this new color came about it was more "yellow" than anyone had ever seen before. Some called it flourescent yellow/green. However it was some cowboy who slured "why that's so yella it reminds me a them there french and there lilly livered "cher truce"". And the name stuck Ask a "dumb" question = get a dumb answer

I wrap a little lead tape (used for fly fishing with nymphs) or soldering wire wraped around the belly of the hook. Its cheap and you can really adjust the weight to your needs. for hooks I like the Gammie G-Lock in 3/0 or 4/0
  4. Had a similar issue recently on my '04 150 Johnson after it had the fuel pump replaced. Before having the fuel pump replaced I tried to fix it myself by replacing all the fuel lines and the bulb. Once that didn't work I took it to dealer and he repalced the pump. Problem was I got one of the chepo's bulbs from wally world. When I got it back from the shop it ran fine for about a day or two then fuel delivery was a problem and the bulb wouldn't pump up completely. Just replaced the cheapo bulb with an OEM bulb. Took it out last night. It ran better and the bulb worked better. The tech at the dealer told me that another possible cause is the anti-syphon valve in the fitting at the fuel tank might be bad. Though unlikely, he said he has seen it happen.
  5. 22 brown fish in a row is my pb For green fish its 9.
  6. I just read/heard about drop shotin' a tube somewhere. They suggested draging it slow across the bottom more than just shaking it in place like you would with a fin s worm on a shot. Suppose to be really good for smallies too. Haven't tried it yet but I'm going to once the fish hit there summer deep water spots. Sounds like it could be killer.
  7. ZOOM Swim chunk. Its a killer baitfish imatation!
  8. I think the wally worlds here in PA only carry the culprit in the 7.5" but in several colors. So perhaps it is regional.
  9. There are some days when sent doesn't help one bit, but then there are other days that I swear it makes a huge difference. Mostly I think it helps on the days when the fishing is slow. I think it has to do a lot with the mood/attitude of the fish. I also think that perhaps the biggest bennefit is not that scents are attractants but that they are cover sents. That they cover or mask any human or other foreign or unnatural odors that might be on a bait.
  10. Thanks for the video and the visual reminder to be safe out there. That is really sobering to say the least. That is such an illustration of complete disregard for safety and common sense! Crossing a boats wake that close to the other boat at that speed. Wow that could have resulted in several fatalities. You could see that boat set up, whether it was operator error on trim and/or jack plate settings, or if it was the boat/engine package itself was bad to begin with. Earlier in the video the thing was chine walking like crazy with little to no waves/chop. And why was he traveling so fast so close to all those pilings in the beginning?
  11. That almost sounds too easy, even for a low tech guy like me ;D
  12. Anyone every try P line floro? Fish it once, and you won't buy another spool of T 100% Thats what I did, and I used to be die hard trilene/berkley man.
  13. I have 5 Shimano Spirex of various ages. Ones 12 years old ones 12 days old. They all perform very well. The upgraded spool on this year's model is a big improvement. I like the double handle since it is similar in feel to my baitcasters. And I like the quick fire. I know some people don't like the fact that it doesn't have instant anti-reverse because of the quickfire trigger but I'm used to it and it has never been an issue with me.
  14. Yeah that's a great reel for that price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy em. I have two (along with 4 or 5 Tour edition PT/s and 5 Energy PTs) I saw one of the quantum pros (I think it was Biffle) fishing with one on the final day of an elite series event. I think they are the only PT's with a flippen switch as the Energy's and Tour editions don't have them. I had one of the older ones. I loved it but it had a graphite/plastic reel foot. I dropped the rod it was on from 9' on to concrete and it snapped the foot off but the newer ones have a metal foot wich is much better.
  15. That set up should be great for throwing just about any bait in the 3/8 to 3/4 ounce range. You can throw lighter baits on it but it is frustrating for a baitcast beginner, I speak from experience after picking out a lot of "professional overuns". ;D Once you get the hang of it you can lighten up lures if you need to. I like my 6.6 MH for throwing weightless worms and 4" senko's but it takes practice. Good luck!
  16. I have 4 BPS Crankin Sticks including a 6.6 M and a 7 M. For the price I don't think you can beat them for their performance/$. Now I also have a Falcon Cara 7' M reaction series. I got a heck of a deal on it last fall since it was last year's model and they changed them this year. That is one sweet stick! Wish I would have purchase more at the time. Sure as heck can't afford them at regular price but they are incredible for cranks and swimbaits. It will outcast my BPS by at least 10 - 15 yards and is much more sensitive. But it should be since its about 3.5 times as much$ ;D
  17. I like ribbon tails post spawn when the water has some stain to it but not super muddy. I'll fish em T rig or C rig in more open water. If I'm throwing at visible targets I think there are other baits that are more effective for me. I still have the most confidence in a good ol' black power worm.
  18. What kind of water are you fishing? i.e. river vs lake, big lake vs small lake, etc. One of the lakes I fish has tons of boat traffic from big cruiser type boats. Every day I'm on that lake I am very greatfull for my glass boat over my previous aluminum rig. The heavier glass boat is more stable than a lighter boat (all other dimensions being equal) in all that wake/waves. I love the look and big water capability and stability of the glass boats. But.... Another smaller lake I fish has limited HP allowed so my glass boat is at a disadvantage there. (I still fish it but can only run the TM) There are lots of pros and cons to both material types. But for what I do and where I fish, I prefer glass. Now if I was mostly fishing smaller lakes and/or smaller rivers, or had a smaller tow vehicle I'd go aluminum. In fact I'd have one of each type if I could afford it ;D
  19. Thanks for the info Cart7t! I checked the lowrance site. The download is free but I have to have the hardware to get the upgrade from my PC to the LMS 520 via the MMC/SD card. Lowrance wants $50 for the card reader/programer. I think I can get it for less than that. Checked wally world cause someone else told me they got one there cheaper but wally doesn't carry them anymore. So I'll have to head in to civilization (I live out in BFE) to find a real electronics store to complete the upgrade. Thanks again!
  20. I heard that some of the pros that are sponsored by Lowrance have the HB sidefinders hidden under the console so that most people and the TV cameras can't see them ;D. I talked to a rep the other day. Supposedly Lowrance is going to introduce its version of side finding in July. SO if you can wait you might have the best of both worlds in one unit. That is why I'm holding out on the side finding until then.
  21. I would assume the $10 Busman is a fuse where as the MK is a circuit breaker that is able to be reset. If the MK breaker pops you just have to reset it (provided there is not an ongoing short or other power issue) with the push of the breaker button. With the fuse you have to actually replace the fuse to "reset" it. but thats just a guess :-?
  22. Another advantage of the frame mounted is the set back it gives you away from the back of the truck since the draw bar puts the ball out away from the rear of the truck a bit. This really helps when backing/manuevering in tight places. A big plus when you have tight quarters to get your boat in the garage like I do since my garage is perpendicular to my drive. You can back the trailer at a much greater angle before it pinches agains the bumper with a frame mount than with a ball on a bumper.
  23. Hey Way2, thanks for the help! I hope your first assessment is correct since it seems the least expensive. Now that you mention that, I spoke with the dealer where I purcased it(which is now about 250 miles from where I live since I moved) and he thought it might just be out of adjustment too. I should have just towed it out to him last fall and it would be fixed by now. In any event, at least I have an idea of what to expect when I take it in. Thanks again!
  24. I have a wide 6' paddle in my 18' 6" Strat. I rigged up some velcro so it is stowed under the lid and out of the way in the battery compartment. I use it mostly for pushing off from shore if I have had the boat beached. I couldn't imagine using it to try to get back to the ramp if both motors where to go though, especially on a day like today when the winds gusting to 40+ mph
  25. I custom made my own from a 6' peice of 1.5" aluminum angle. Cut it to fit with a hacksaw. Mark and drill holes 1/8" dia every 1/2' or so. Then screw it to the rod box or tackle compartment lid with stainless panhead screws. Works great and helps dry your lures out before you put them back in the boxes. No more rusty hooks. Also you can get some of the shower curtain clips (like they use for golf towels) and hang other things like packs of soft plastics or packs of hooks, pliers, etc so they are always handy. I like to do that especially on tournament day when I hang all my "go to" baits right there so I don't have to dig for them.
