  1. Most anglers would say to use braid or mono. Fluorocarbon sinks and can make it very difficult to walk the dog with the line underwater. I prefer braid just for the low stretch in case you get a bite on a long cast. I will say I like to use flouro for poppers at times. As the flouro sinks, whenever I "pop-it" the bait will go under water and I have gotten strikes when the bait does this. The Chug Bug is my favorite for this technique. I'm sure there are many other opinions out there tho on the topic. Good luck!
  2. Got this shot last Spring. It was too vibrant to not stop fishing and get a picture
  3. Thank you everyone for your service! I am currently on 3 years as a USCG Reservist.
  4. Lake Tarpon is a tough place to fish but once you learn it, it holds a lot of fish and regularly produces lunkers. I have most luck in the South Cove area both in the spring and summer. @davecon makes a great point with Rousseau. It is very woody (tall trees still standing) so be careful until you learn the lay of the lake but it does hold monsters.
  5. Prob one of the big more well-known places is the Edward Medard Reservoir in Plant City. It has some good bank access along with a boat ramp and a long walking pier. Sunshine (hybrid) bass are stocked in there and are a good surprise catch. I second BareHook with the Junebug as a great color but not just senkos. But any dark colors work there. Bluegill and shad imitators also can work depending on when you will be here. I hope this all helps.
  6. I like the Keitech Swing Impact alot over the Fat one as the slender profile helps the lure through the muck in the ponds I fish. My favorite though is the Luck-E-Strike Bass Magic hollow-body swimbait. It doesn't work as well with a super slow retrieve but it has a wobble that I haven't been able to find in any other swimbait.
  7. I never really thought about that weight as being an issue but it is ugly. It does seem like it could be something they could address with any updates to the design.
  8. I have fished the topwater sunfish and it walks like a dream and very easy. I have had two strikes on it that didn't connect while fishing it a rather small amount of time. I plan to keep trying it but the only issue I have is the paint is coming off the nose, presumably from the braided line scraping on it. I wonder if a short mono leader would do the same thing.
  9. Oh I hope everyone stops looking for something after they find it. But I was definitely trying to be humorous with that. It is a phrase I say all the time when someone is looking for something; "I know where it is...it is in the last place you look." Then I proceed to get a dirty look from said person. I got it from my dad whom would say it all the time also.
  10. I got the Fishhunter Directional 3D finder, which uses Wifi, and I have issues with the connection as well when it was further than 50 ft out. So I have to cast it out then reel until it is in range. The manual says it has a range of 150 ft from a fishing pier and 50 ft from a standing position in a boat. So I'm assuming when fishing from shore you are more likely to have a range of 50 ft since you arent elevated. I have only tried it at one location so I plan to try in other places to try to remedy this.
  11. Ok I actually found it, and I was right in believing it would be the last place I looked. When you click the drop down menu from your name in the top left, select "account settings." From there you scroll down to the tab on the left that says "Display Name" and click it. @Darren. good job, you were close. You are permitted 5 name changes every 30 days. I hope this helps others if they have the same issue. Thanks group for the help.
  12. Hello all, I have been away from the forums for a while with a new baby and have come across an issue. I have done an exhaustive search through this forum but cannot find a way to change my profile Display Name (the one everyone sees). There is no option under the "Edit Profile" link from my main page. I fear there is an easy way and I am just missing it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  14. Hello everyone, I have been thinking lately about dressing up some single hooks to put on the back of some topwater lures. I have started using single hooks because there is a lot of grass here in florida and it makes them a little bit more weedless. Has anyone out there done something similar to this? If so how do you do it? Thanks!
  15. Hello all, I have a Spro BBZ-1 hardbody swimbait. It came with a Gama #2 Treble on it. I tend to have a lot of fish spit the hook. I want to switch the treble out but I am not sure which direction to go in, EWG or round bend. Anyone have any suggestions? Kyle
