  1. Kayak fishing has a learning curve and just like driving, it is weird at first and you are feeling all kinds of things that are new and it overloads your brain. Once you get some experience, those feelings will be normalized and only the out of whack stuff will make you wonder what to do next. For paddling remember slow and smooth is also fast. You also use your torso not your arms to paddle. Do a search for Jeff Little and his youtube channel, he is an avid river fisherman and before he became a torqeedo rep he was all paddle and has some great videos on technique and the why behind it all.
  2. How I spent my Sunday morning....before & after
  3. Yeah they have a provision that you can put them on a stringer or even a livewell to revive or to allow time to set up for a picture.
  4. Still for the benefit of the fish to have your systems down so they can be back in the water on their own accord as quickly as possible.
  5. Stability and tracking are very subjective. A new person to paddling won't have a boat that tracks well no matter what really, even though some will be better than others and stability is also based on the individual as well. This is why you see people touting width of the kayak. On my ATAK120 i had a motor issue and I was able to stand up, step over my seat and go to my tankwell and adjust the motor. Can everyone do that, I have no idea but I know I can and that is what matters.
  6. A citizen's arrest, really? good luck with that. I have a Helix and never thought about rain or damaging my unit. Also if you are drenching everything then you are being very inefficient. Slow down and smooth out that paddle stroke. I just turn my motor up to 100% now though and don't miss what you are experiencing.
  7. One thing to consider is going with a motorized kayak instead. I know people are into the pedals and it works for a lot of people but when I was looking into propulsion I couldn't get past a good paddling baot with a motor instead of a poor paddling boat with pedals. Not to mention you could probably save some cash in the process I will also say demo them all if you can because the pedal motions can be really strange, I personally hated the hobie motion but that may be because I was an avid cyclist for many years
  8. I have heard way too many stories of those coming undone on tournament fishing to use one myself. I just use my fish grips and zero out my scale and weigh the fish if needed and getting a length takes all of 20 seconds. The key is having everything ready to go and where you need it to be. I don't weigh anything that is under 20" or so usually anyways.
  9. Cowboys will be overhyped and trash like usual. Dak will again lead the league in interceptions. Eagles will have a rough start with a bunch of younger. talent but will come together when it matters and win the divsion and the NFC again. AFC i want to see the Bills so I am gonan keep picking them cause I am dying to see a Philly Bills superbowl in my lifetime as it would be completly epic.
  10. Yeah here in VA there are always crazy laws up for discussion and potential passing during legislative time in teh spring and they rarely pass. All it takes are a couple of the general assembly to think it is a good idea and it can be put on the dockett for discussion.
  11. Again you are showing your lack of research before buying a kayak that isn't fit for you. My first kayak was 29" wide and it was fine stability wise, I could even stand in it and fish if I wanted to. It is about the hull shape as much as width. I hope you get it all sorted out and learned a little in the process because obviously you know everything because there is so much bad info out there lol.
  12. Amazing what happens when people actually read the links they post...I mean it is the top paragraph pretty much on the link.
  13. This is a hilarious thread to me. You are all bent out of shape because you bought a cheap kayak and it performed like, well a cheap kayak. You then want a big box store to act like a mom & pop shop and take a return on a kayak you heavily modified. If you did a quick search on here you would have found tons of info on buying a kayak and probably me stating many many times to make zero modifications until you know what you want. Don't try and solve a problem you don't even have or solve a problem someone else has, which it sounds like you did. Put it up on Facebook marketplace and you will sell it in a couple hours if priced reasonably and then you can start saving for another more suitable kayak.
  14. My next boat will be a jet boat but I won't be getting rid of my kayak when I do as there are places and times on the river a kayak is just flat out better and more versatile, especially on a river like the susky
  15. I am not sure what the experts say but I agree with you on this one. Knots should always be tightened by oulling the tag end, not the mainline, whenever possible
  16. I have a cheap rechargable LED off amazon and it does great. I have the same one in UV as well for curing my fly tying resins and it works as good as any of the name brand ones for a fraction of the price.
  17. yeah trying working in elementary education as a male......
  18. Scenery sucks and so does the fishing so just go somewhere else.....?
  19. I am in a kayak but I do a fair bit of night fishing and I only have on what is required and use a red lens headlamp. You'd be surprised at how well your eyes adjust if you let them.
  20. Best part about this boat is that the technology will eventually trickle down to lower models and be more affordable should you decide to go that route. For me, I am in the if I am spending that much I am getting a boat category. My kayak is rigged for what I need it for though and I love it and it does a great job on the rivers here and the lakes. I do think it is ridiculous to have 2 motors on a kayak and I am 99% sure the KBF rules say 1 electric motor but I am sure if they get sponsor money they will adjust that rule to accommodate.
  21. I went with a different one entirely but did look at both of these when I got my trailer 6+ years ago and unless it has changed the Malone trailers were rated for max of 65MPH and i want to say the right on trailer was even less but again this was a while ago. This was a pretty big factor for me as I travel at least 3-4 trips a year that I will be towing my kayak on the highway for 3+ hours and being able to go 70+ with no concerns is very nice. It did make me pay more for a trailer but I also haven't had to do anything to it except rewire the lights in the last 6+ years.
  22. 10' is really short for a kayak on a lake or anywhere really. As far as the tracking, I have no idea if that kayak tracks well or not but my guess is no as it is only 10' and the shorter the kayak the more it wants to react to a paddle stroke combined with the hull design. Then there is paddling technique which is as important as anything. You do not want to use your arms to paddle but your torso. Do a search for Jeff Little on YouTube as he is an incredbile river angler and prior to joining torqeedo he was all paddle power. He has some great videos on paddling technique and maximizing efficiency. Bottom line is that kayak is probably gonna be ok for a little while but you will most likely upgrade to get a more fishing oriented kayak. I have been kayak fishing for 20+ years and the advancements in fishing kayaks is fantastic. There are quite a few kayak fishermen on here so feel free to post up some questions..
  23. Sounds like my friend when we went out on his dad's jon boat on an electric only lake. We use the trolling motor for a good mile or so and had a good old time. Then it stops working. He messes around with it can't get it to work. Cell service is spotty so he can't get a hold of his dad. He pulls out the lone paddle and paddles back to the ramp. We get there and cell service is a little better and his dad says, did you check the switch? He said theres a switch? Must have bumped the switch and turned it off.....turned it back on and good as new lol
