  1. Yup definitely a rainbow.....pretty fish. I am going to chase some brookies in the mountains this weekend myself
  2. Bass busting on the surface? My go to is a fluke in whatever color mimics the baitfish cast past the edge of the pod and work it fast and right as you get near the pod kill it and let it fall.....if that doesn't get a strike keep trying......
  3. I personally would have a tough time sending with no money exchanged especially on an item costing over $200.....mailing items before payment is like loaning money to family.....only do it with an amount you are willing to lose...... Good luck getting it worked out.
  4. Wow that is an awesome brown. I love the kyped jaw too.....
  5. oh and one more thing if you are targeting them you may want to invest in a bite leader of some sort. I know this past saturday i was out and lost 4 different texas rigged yum dingers to pickerel biting through my braid and then my flouro leader...
  6. Soft plastic craw on slider heads Crankbaits (when the conditions are right) but my all time favorite is a nose hooked 4" or smaller stickbait
  7. They are definitely more active in the cooler water. I have caught them on buzzbaits in December when I saw them cruising around. My best success has been silver bladed spinnerbaits worked fast and also soft jerkbaits worked fast. They seem to be reactionary in their feeding habits more than bass. I caught one that was over 5lbs here in va and that thing fought pretty hard. He measured close to 27-28" if I remember right. Good luck and if you do go with minnows be sure to use circle hooks cause they will try and swallow the bait pretty quickly.
  8. They aren't that bad but I can relate. I am an eagles fan and with all the talent on the team they can't win jack ****......
  9. I haven't thrown them that often but I have had some good success with a paddle tail fluke as a trailer. Also if you are having trouble with the skirts falling off spinnerbaits, chatter baits, buzzbaits etc...just secure them with one of the really small zip ties and you won't have the problem again.
  10. are you sure double secret really doesn't mean Fish Hatchery?? Nice day and i am jealous. I was out yesterday and only managed 6 with nothing huge but all were definitely feeding and fat....
  11. My dad caught a 5lb smallie on a night crawler when he was targeting catfish.....
  12. flyfisher replied to sengx's topic in Fishing Tackle
I have used the smaller versions for smallies and largemouth and had good success. One thing i have noticed about the X-rap is that it does not suspend perfectly but is more of a slow rise. I changed out the hooks to a heavier model and now they suspend perfectly. Good baits, you will enjoy using them
  13. I have also seen the red on the mouth and throat regions on the lakes i fish but only in the fall and winter months. I know i searched and found some information that said it has to do with water temperature and it seemed believable so i never questioned it further i will be anxious to hear what the DGIF says....
  14. All good advice. I would also add to stay away from angler versions because they are generally over priced for the extras you get that you may or may not even want. You can then rig up the boat how you want it after a few trips on the water. Also in that price range you can probably get a very good used boat from someone looking to upgrade. I have seen the older model tarpon 120 go for around $500 and that is one of the better all around boats on the market. Last but not least, if there are any shops that have demo days by all means go to them. You can paddle a ton of boats, see what fits your needs and they usually have boats on sale for cheap if they were part of the shop's demo fleet or reps samples to try out. There is also a pretty good site that is all about kayak bass fishing that will give you more than enough information to make a choice on which boats to look at. www.kayakbassfishing.com
  15. I have one too and i really like it. I am not much of a spinnerbait thrower but when i do it workes vey well. I actually use it more for topwater frogs and 1/2oz texas rigged plastics and it works well for that too. The only gripe i have is that i wish it was a touch shorter because from a kayak 7' baitcastign rods can be a pain sometimes.
  16. it is something i always wanted to try but never had the opportunity........some day maybe i will do it but it will have to be a pretty good road trip since here in VA there really isn't any ice to speak of.
  17. I am a kayak fisherman so it is usually only me but i will go out from time to time with friends who also fish from kayaks. I could care less about most things because i can just leave a spot if i want to and it is nothing different to them It is nice to have someone to bounce ideas off and see what is working for them and vice versa. I think someone else said it well....if i wouldn't want to grab a beer with them then there is a good chance i wouldn't want to fish with them all day.
  18. i picked up a few the other day and both seem to be floating just fine. I don't think forcing you to work them slow is a bad thing as i always tend to better the slower i work them. Does sound like you got a bum jitterbug though.
  19. never threw it but i am debating on picking up a set up before my next outing. I am a little nervous about that many hooks flinging around since i fish from a kayak....
  20. That is a big fish. Judging by the eyes i am guessing an old one too. I am also guessing in the 27"-28" range as well.
  21. I am not a glove wearer myself but i do always keep a few of the shake and warm packs in my pockets so i can warm up my hands pretty quick. I do have a pair of simms fleece fingerless gloves with the flip down mitten cover that goes over top and i will put them on to warm up if needed. The other thing you can do if your hands get really cold is swing your arms around in fast, large circles. This will force the blood into your hands and also get your heart rate up a little.
  22. i have no rooting interest in either team so i actually went to bed and when i was watching sportscenter getting for work i saw the final score.....holy crap!!! epic collapse by the chargers or epic comeback for the broncos???
  23. I am in the 8-10 range on a regular basis with a few other spots I hit occasionally. I like to have my "home" lake where I know the fish and can try new techniques but I also like the challenge of a completely new piece of water to try.
  24. I think it depends on a few things. I pulled this from the IGFA website. No applications will be accepted for fish caught in hatchery waters or sanctuaries. The catch must not be at variance with any laws or regulations governing the species or the waters in which it was caught. Not sure exactly what that means but I would guess your fish wouldn't count unless it was a public location I could be wrong though
