Cape Cod Canal Stripers
Me and my dad are planning on going to the Cape Cod Canal in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has any specific tips, baits, areas, etc. About the fishing that could help. My dad has fished here several times this will be my first, I caught a 27 pounder this year my PB but about a mile offshore in Gloucester MA. Im looking forward to the trip and hoping you guys have some good advice... Thanks

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Anyone feeling the fishing slowing down? My last two outings have been very slow, the two trips combined for 3 bass two were probably 1 pound one was pushing 2lbs (My dad did hook up with a what looked like 2.5 or 3 but got off). I won't stop fishing for them unless the weather is to harsh. Maybe I am just not being successfull right now during the temperature change.... If any of you guys haven't felt a difference in the fishing would you mind giving me some tips about what I should be using, areas to fish, etc. Thanks

First Lure
Start with 7" Slug-O or 7.5"Culprit....If the situation is set for it i will throw a jitterug (my favorite lure), then ill prob throw a jerkbait then put a jig head on with a watermelon lizard usually 7".

Heck Of A Day Fishing
Thats a fantastic day, If I were you I would go for bonito next. If you troll for dolphin with some type of jigged skirt with any dead baitfish rigged on the hook then you will probably hook into bonito if your in the right spot. I don't know much about deep sea fishing more of an inshore person myself, but we were succesfull with that rig I think like 1 mile off maybe 2.?.. Bonito aren't huge but they a very appealing to the eye and fight like crazy! Again congrats on an excellent fishing day!

Best Lakes In Ct To Catch A 4+Lb Bass?
Candlewood Lake not sure how it's doing now but it produces some big bass (largmouth and smallmouth)...I know your asking for lakes but if you ever fish rivers from shore try the housatonic river for smallies.

How Would You Fish It?
I would fish the channel where the lines are very tight... I predict big smallies in there, please let me know how you do, whether it be messege or a post...thanks and good luck!

Bass Wouldn't Commit To My Swimbait
I agree with going smaller with the swimbait...I use 3-4" ones usually and still generate some big bites. My dad caught a 38lbs stiper on a chunk of mackeral or herring that was less than 4 inches long... Fish dont always go for bigger bait, sometimes they will go for things the same size of them and sometimes they will go for things the size of their eye, if a fish is that hungry it won't think twice about the size of it's prey.

Favorite River Smallie Bait
In my favorite smallmouth spot my go to bait is a rapala about 3 to 4 inches long and the classic grey body fading to a black back ( preferably a broken back).I also like to use use jig heads and use any of your favorite soft plastics in slower moving parts of rivers... If there are lots of crayfish in the river the smallies are probably fat, you would think that they would hit them but I fished one spot with crayfish for about an hour...nothing...switched to my rapala... caught 40 smallies and 6 trout..smallies were ranging from 1lbs to 2lbs 14oz. Crayfish for me anyways are more successfull in lakes.

Jack Visited Me Today
Sweet guys thanks, caught a lot of barracuda on a charter 2 years ago, I have only seen one 30+ incher at my granfathers though... I have also caught some small flounder, and there are some very large catfish that live in a canal right in the ICW didn't know they were edible nevermind delicious. What about rays just out of curiousity, I caught one at night on a shrimp in the same canal that the big catfish live in.

Thanks for the fish identification page... and yeah i just threw that out there and realized it probably wasn't the most logical thing to say, and i never realized they were god eating. Any other fish that are preferably good to eat in the ICW?
