After 35 hours in tree stands, I finally saw a legal buck. It didn't give me a shot.

Had to break out the chemical hand warmers last night. We had wind driven sleet and snow. I sure don't care much for the cold anymore. Still have yet to see a single deer from any tree stands. Maybe I should start road hunting..........lol.

Since I have a protection permit, I am able to now carry during archery season here in PA. I've had my .40 with me since the last encounter.

Last evening my son-in-law ran into a different bear than the smaller one from earlier on. We're a bit anxious about running into one of them in the dark. I hate to make a bunch of noise getting to and from my stands. Kind of a conundrum, we have to consider. The up side is that the same evening, my grandson saw the biggest buck he's ever seen. Maybe things are taking an upswing. Good luck, all.

After tree stand sessions since Saturday, I have yet to see a deer. Son-in-law finally had a small buck come by him last night. Hopefully things start to pick up soon. Good luck to all you archers.

With all today's rain, I took a break from archery season preparation.......... Fishing with a Norman L'il N and Kitech swimbaits the bite was better than I expected. I certainly lost my share today. I'd guess I must have lost 80% of those bass hooked on the swimbaits. I hate transition times like this. It's hard for me to focus on fishing. Good luck to everyone else that finds themselves in this same situation.

Son-in-law was out walking the tracks this morning and ran into another bear. This one doesn't appear to be very large, Maybe 150 or so. It's the first one we've seen lately. It'd be nice to see ambling around our treestands. As long as it doesn't decide to climb up and say hello, that is !

Clayton, I spent some time up at Ft Drum. If I lived up there, I'd be all over those fish. The Black River by Dexter has shown me some really great days. Good luck with whichever you decide to persue.

The bucks around here are starting to make rubs. We have two small ones on camera that are already clean of velvet. It seems awfully early to me.

We've anxiously been awaiting our middle daughter's second biopsy results. We just got a text that it's negative. It's been a bit tense around here far too much over the last couple of years. I just had a large sigh of relief.

Papajoe, I whole-heartedly agree. Those octopus hooks work great for a wacky rig. The only problem I have, is when I take a short bit of # 18 copper wire and weight the center of a senko type bait. This sometimes presents a problem having the fish hook themselves. That is when I return to using a larger hook for better clearance.

Itching to go here. Trail cams are up. There are a few legal bucks in the area. Several treestands are installed. Both bows are tuned and ready.

It's not looking quite as good for getting that permission letter. I spoke with the owners this afternoon.............a decision has yet to be made. Just by judging their body language, I don't have very high hopes. It's a shame too; the best buck we've seen is using that area for bedding. On the plus side, we have documented at least three legal bucks in our zone.
