St.croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod? What Are Your Thoughts?
Don't know how to quote on mobile.. @flyfisher My buddy loves his, it has the smaller guides, ideal for braid. I run mono exclusively so won't work for me. But then again I'm speaking saltwater fishing. As far as the fresh water Mojos go, idk. Lol St Croix makes great stuff!

St.croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod? What Are Your Thoughts?
Flyfisher, the mojo spinning rods, are they designed exclusively for braid? I know the surf rods are. That's something the OP may need to know.

St.croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod? What Are Your Thoughts?
+1 on the Premier, its one of my favorite rods.

Pro Qualifier Modifications/upgrades
I know its BPS who 'makes' the PQ reels, now may be a dumb question, but who is the actual manufacturer?

Favorite Worm
7" Powerbait Green Pumpkin for Grass areas, lilly pads, and my general go to worm. 7" Powerbait Black for murky/foggy water and while raining. The shorter size I think 5" Powerbait Motor Oil for yellow/tan waters. I switch up between Black and Cherryseed for night time fishing.

Oh Nuts
That sucks! Similar experience involving Bunker, Bait Knife and Saltwater tackle box. End result gross, Bleach and the some choice words lmao

Drop Shot Question
Cool! Thanks guys I'll check the vids in the morning! Went out on the boat today tried drop shotting horizontally. Green Pumpkin worm landed 1 Small mouth, small prob just shy of 2lbs, 2nd. I tried with a live minnow in 2 seconds nailed a yellow perch. Tried multiple baits over the next 30-40 casts nothing. Switched back to cranks and spinners. Was using 4# Fluoro as leader for trout fishing today. Def wanna try a spool of it on 1 of my reels. Went out with a few of my saltwater buddies for the trout so I was only on 1 pole, shared my other 2 otherwise would have stripped down 1 and tried it out. Love my 6# Spider mono lol Anyhow def see the huge difference from boat rather then from shore, soooooo much easier and the back to back fish were a good sign. Will def be a new technique to try when the fish are finicky. Thanks again everyone!

Drop Shot Question
Med/Fast Action. Spinning reel. 1/2oz weight. 6# test mono. Yea I know the LMBs are in the weeds but there's some rocky sections near the drop off I know the other Bass hang out at. - so to answer my questio: heavier weight, more slack and try to keep it more still? Some youtube vids you'd swear the guys are jiggin the way they are drop shotting lol. Will try this in the am thanks guys!

Drop Shot Question
Tried drop shot fishing from shore earlier today. Have hook about 16" from the weight, have the right knot, hook, worm, etcetc. My question is, when trying to keep the line taught it seems to continuously pull it across the bottom? Is that the jist of the technique? I had 3 good hits fishing blind 2 of which lost my worm, 4th hit I landed a 3# LMB. All of the 4 times is when the weight got hung up in weeds. If I cast in other terrain it wants to keep coming in... This is prob cuz my angle and from what I'm gathering "a boat technique". Anyhow today was my first time trying the method out, 1 fish for 2 hours :/ just wanna see if the drift is normal or if I'm supposed to get the weight hung up? Thanks in advance!

Baitcaster 101
Someone local is getting rid of a min St Croix PC70MF with a Pfleuger Trion for $150. Has anyone used that reel? Is it decent? Would anyone want it? That's the pole I want to pair to the Zillion. If anyone here wants that reel throw me a offer and I'll pick the combo up over the weekend.

Baitcaster 101
@new2BC4bass I'm not sure the model of the daiwa. It was the spinning reel that's $20 cheaper than the Stradic, looked the same too, black with red highlights. Whether flipping the bail, operating the reel, tightening the drag etc it felt like I was playing with a kids toy not a high quality reel. It was just funny to me, I picked the Zillion back up and was like ahhh this is more like it! Lol I'm not an expert on bait casting reels (yet lol) but having owned so many over the years, I can easily tell the Zillion is built well. I think you mis understood my original statement. Def was not comparing the Zillion to the Stradic!

Mono Fluoro Braid - Pros/cons
@Delaware good points! I could see using strong braid to rip through cover buy if u end up with a 2lb fish on the end its like what's the point. @MCS I stopped using braid for multiple reasons. I do tons of surf/jetty/dock fishing. With that being said a handful of spots if you get stuck chances are ur on mussle bed and boom, you got 30+ yards of frayed line or lose 30+ yards of line. Mussles were never common up here till recently, like this anyways and in these specific areas. I love the zero stretch of braid but since switching to circle hooks I don't need to set the hook any more. Also if your in a area with current and its you and a couple buddies and you happen to get tangled braid sucks to get undone. Here in CT I fish in the Housatonic river a lot. We'll usually cast chuncks with a 2-3oz weight but the current usually brings us all together after a few minutes. Huge cluster 5/-! Of braid is a nightmare, add in nighttime and its a wrap. My 3 go to rigs once again I'm talking salt here I'm using 17# trilene xt tough red, the other I have 2 spools 20 and 25# trilene big game, 3rd I'm trying out Stren for the firts time 20# yellow hivis. Which I gotta say I really like it!!! 1 bad birds nest doing prelimnary casts with a 2oz weight on a swivel. After that NOOOO problems at all and got 8 Blues all over 10#s on the same polymer knot to a steel leader. Idk braid just really seems like cheating as well. But I do have braid on my bunker snagging rig. But that's about saving money from buying bait so Win/Win for me! Lol

Mono Fluoro Braid - Pros/cons
As the title says. Lol even tho this topic has probally been discussed here 10,000x over. I've been seeing a lot of the guys up here use really strong Braid and Fluoro. Not too many using mono. I used braid for saltwater for about 6 years and last year just switched back to mono (17 & 20# from shore). I've never used more than 6# mono for freshwater. But since I've been in the market for my first baitcasting setup I figured some discussion on the pros and cons with these lines on baitcasting reels might be useful. My spinning set ups are as follows: Trout 6# Spider ultimate mono (almost zero stretch, works great on my ultra light rig) Bass & Walleye 4-6# Trilene XT (decent stretch limit and durable when dealing with rocky and brush areas) I just can't see using 65# Braid for a 4# fish its cheating any way you look at it. Lmao

Baitcaster 101
Thinking about making the purchase tomorrow. Seeing as how I'm still learning about these reels have a question. I think my heart is set on the Daiwa Zillion, but what about the Type R. Are you only paying for a slightly lighter reel? If I'm gonna drop $320 on a reel it might make sense to go $80 more and get the next step up. BUT I don't want to tick money away either. Is it worth it? Thanks in advance!

Uh I Think I'm Converted
I don't get involved with brand wars. I own several Shimano reels, also some penn and soon a Daiwa. If its quality its quality end of story. Congrats on the purchase!

Which Low End Rod?
S*** I didn't read the posts went to scroll up saw u got one, congrats. Sorry I was late to the party.

Which Low End Rod?
Any chance you live in CT? I have a decent Shimano rod you can either borrow/or keep.

Budget Spinning Rods < $50
Guys don't crucify me for this. My go to Trout rod comes in Ultra light, light and medium. I own it in 5' ultra light. Berkely Cherrywood! You could prob get it for $20 at a Walmart. The rod is rock solid I've owned and used mine for roughly 7 years now. They no longer come with the cork grip wrap around the reel seat but still have a good feeling cork. My buddy has one 6' in medium and uses it occasionally for bass using rubber worms. That's the only under $80 pole I own but I love the d**n thing!

Did Abu Garcia Scare Shimano?
Funny thing I thought of after checkin this thread. Couple shops near me push Tsunami saltwater poles as the step up from low end Shimano/Shakespeare rods without making the price jump to ST. Croix etc. I love Shimano reels my self have a dozen or so spinners and only problem I ever had was on a brand new baitrunner couldn't hear the secondary drag. Sent it in had a new one in 3 days no probs on this one. Although I love Shimano I won't hesitate on trying a new brand.

Baitcaster 101
Hey guys thanks for all the input! Think at some point between now and next spring I'm gonna go for it and prob grab the Zillion. Wait to see what kind of deal I can get on it. Its funny this Daiwa is built like a tank but when comparing their reel that is similiar to my stradic it was night and day how much more solid and smooth the Shimano was. Anyhow, now its just deciding righty or lefty. As far as that St Croix goes. Idk about spending that much for me. The Premier I have is awesome! Thanks again guys. If anyone else wants to keep contributing go for it!

Baitcaster 101
Hello all first post here. Found this site via google looking for some gear reviews and ended up on the 'show your stuff' thread. Now because of that thread I want a baitcast reel. So on that note anyone interested in schooling me on a few questions I'd greatly appreciate it. So basically I'm 29 and have never used one except for a few charter boat trips with friends. I consider myself an avid fisher and have a arsenal of spinning reels/rods fresh and salt. Question 1: The reel is on the right! I'm a righty my left hand is illiterate doing anything other than reeling and adjusting drag. So the reel I was checking out is made both ways. Is that in the fishing world considered 'cheating'. Like... Is there a right way and a hey I can do this too wrong way? If its perfectly normal to have it in both formats then I'd assume to go ahead and buy the lefty version. But if using the right handed version is the code of ethics and I must learn that way then I'm a on the fence on it. Question 2: Has anyone here who has done spinning all their life and switched to baitcasting down the road gave up on it, loved the switch or now do both? Learning curve looks like the basics are pretty easy but once you start getting into more precision casts its just a time invested way of getting good. In other words I'm willing to invest the time over my life and learn just wanna know I'm not alone if I get frustrated. Lol Question 3: Honestly, should I splurge and grab a great combo now or grab a cheap set to learn on? I'm a huge Shimano fan but I fell in love with a Daiwa around $300 price point. Was a great looking reel felt light and comfortable. My go to spinning combo for Bass is St. Croix 6'ft Premier M/F with a CI4 Stradic 2500F so when checking out the Daiwa I matched it with same pole/action but in 7'ft. Felt pretty good in hands tried casting for like 20mins in the store lol just don't wanna drop $400 if it isn't necessary. Well thanks in advance guys once I get a chance to gonna contribute to the show off thread. Happy Fishin.
