Lost that loving feeling ...
If its not fun, I would not waste my time doing it. Try fishing for fun, and just enjoying nature and the sounds of a morning on the water. Concentrate on the surroundings instead of the competition.

Somewhere you just can't catch a bass.
When things are really tough, slow way down and throw a 4" senko watermelon red, or a zoom trick worm. Throw it with a 1/32 bullet weight so it slow falls through the entire water column, and they get a good look at it.. Fish slow, just vibrate it and let it sit. Then try wacky rig and let it sit. If that doesn't work, move on to different waters. These techniques will catch fish when nothing else works in waters all over the south. Good luck, it can be a challenge at times.

Dumb Move Was an Expensive Lesson
While surf fishing in Melbourne, Florida, I entered the surf with my Ray Ban Aviators on top of my head and a big wave hit. That is the last time I saw them!!!

Copperheads In Bass' Mouths???
25 people sounds a little high for the odds involved. I have seen a picture of a baby water moccasin that was regurgitated after a 3 pound bass was caught. The snake was partially digested but you could tell by the head it was a cotton mouth. Bass do feed on snakes, and anything else they can fit in their mouth, including baby gators!

Lake Topos
University of Florida has free topo maps on all the major lakes in the state of Florida. Try your University web sites and see if your system has done the same for you. I print them and then have them laminated. With the right marker pen I can make notes right on the map. It is a great resource, and the best part is its free.

Holey Lands 9/4/16
Holey Lands, Sunday 9/4/16, Bright sky, temp 95*, crystal clear water, water temp 89*, current flow to the west, wind east 5-10. Nicest day in weeks. Went to the Holey Lands on the Broward / Palm Beach County line, with good friend Rick. We fished from 6:30 - 11:30 and caught fish at a consistent rate. From the ramps we ran east to the pump houses along the east canal. Water was flowing from all the pump houses and running back to the west. I started with a trick worm and began catching on the first cast. Rick threw a Hollow Body Frog and had no takers. Soon Rick switched to plastics and began catching. We then ran back to the big lakes and caught fish along the north shore. Bass were not shallow , but sitting off the drop-offs. We then decided to run to the west canal but the water was running too fast to fish effectively. We ran back to the big lakes and continued to catch them all along the north wall, on zoom flukes, senkos, and zoom trick worms. We finished the day with 25 bass caught, and lots of bait fish bites, so we never had much down time. The good news was we had lots of action. The bad news was, all 25 bass, might have weighted 20 pounds total, with no bigger bites. At the ramp, we met other guys coming in, all with the same story. Good action, no size. It was still a fun day, and mother nature finally decided to cooperate with the weather.

Lower water, lots of grass, and a hurricane...
Still suspended, suspending jerk bait, or a zoom fluke with a 1/32 bullet weight. Slow fall through the water column. That's where I would start! Adjust from there!!!

Lake Henderson Inverness Fl
The funny thing is no matter how hard it is to find fish, no matter how tough the conditions, someone always manages to find them and catch them. Sometime its truly amazing!

Ever catch a fish with someone else's lure still attached?
No all separate fish over a 40 year period.

Ever catch a fish with someone else's lure still attached?
It has happened many times to me. Loads of worm hooks, one bass had two hooks still attached, a deep diving crank bait, a peacock with a fire tiger rattle trap attached, a chug bug, and a #9 rapala stick bait. It happens often in fishing. As long as they can open their mouth, they will keep eating!

Best Senko color for late summer in Fla?
In clear to lightly stained water the watermelon shades are excellent all over the southeast. My persoal favorite is watermelon red. In dingy water I would go with Junebug. Junebug is also goo under low light conditions in all waters. I personally like the 4" sticko and senko products. I have caught a large number of bass on all sizes of these baits, including the jumbo size. Use as little weight as possible for the conditions. You will get more action out of the bait. Good luck buddy, its a great choice of baits.

Southern water temps
In south Florida the summer water temps will often be in the high 80's to low 90's. Bass will be less active but will feed in limited amounts. Because of our shallow weedy bodies of water, bass often sit right under the thick green weeds where the O2 levels are a little higher, and plenty of shade from the intense summer sun. They will feed at anything that crosses the pad field or at the base of the stems. Anywhere you can find current in the hot weather, it produce a better bite with bass sitting in a ambush mode. O2 levels are usually better if you can find water moving especially after recent rains. A Thermocline break is also a productive level, especially if bait fish are in the area. Early morning and late afternoon with low light conditions, are usually the best time for summer bass fishing for active bass. Summer is our most difficult time of the year for bass fishing, but we do have one alternative method of fishing. Peacock fishing is at its most productive time of the year. They love hot water, love bright sun, and will chase baits at Noon in open water. A peacock will chase a prop bait from 20 yards away in summer. We are so lucky to have this resource in our local waters, and they are a bass on steroids. Vicious hits on a bait, long runs, and super airborne jumps! You've got to love the peacock bite all summer.

What's your #1 Lure of all time??
It used to be a #11 Rapala Hard stickbait, and Swithwick Devil Horse guy. For the last 20 years its been without a doubt the 4" senko type bait guy. I can fish it weedless. I can fish it fast or slow. I can fish it deep or shallow. I can pause it, walk it, drag it, I can throw it in the thick stuff, or out in open water. Fish will hit it while they are lock jaw on other baits. You have to have confidence in what you throw and I am a believer in this little bait. It will catch small fish , BIG fish and everything in between. It is a great little bait.

Worst Fishing Etiquette You've Encountered?
Been there!!!!! Once as a back seater the guy up front hugged the bank throwing a swim bait down the ledge all day long. He left me either fishing behind the boat with him running the T/M full speed ahead or Long casts to the other side of the canal 40 yards away. I didn't say much since he has been at it for a long time, and knows exactly what he was leaving me. How sweet it was I still beat his butt that day from the opposite side, and at the end of a bunch of long, long, cast. I have wished for years, I could get him in the back of my boat and give him the same treatment.

Gone with the wind
I have lost one of almost everything while running the boat. I have learned to sit on my hat, strap down the rods, stow old water bottles, dont leave costa glasses on top of your head, and don't leave your cell phone on the deck, while running a top speed. I learn a lot by practical experience.

Do you cancel days of fishing because of wind?
The answer is yes. I will not cancel because of rain, full moon, cold, or 100+ weather, but I will cancel for 20+ steady wind. The wind makes boat control tough, it will make feeling the bite tough, and it will blow floating vegetation around which will be tough to handle. The wave action will make standing and fishing a chore. Since I fish for enjoyment, I can always fish tomorrow. Many times if its blowing hard I will choose to bank fish. Since your stationary, fishing with a heavy wind from your back, is easy fishing. You can cast far and easy, and feeling the bite is no problem. Bass are often active with all the bait fish stirred up by the wind.
