  1. Looking to purchase a *** *** Black rod, only to be used for pitching at docks and light-moderately heavy cover. But I'm not sure as to which rod to get, I've never fishing with their rods before and it'd be great if someone with prior experience could help me decide between a 7'3, 7'6, MH or H, etc. Thanks.
  2. Hey everyone, having some serious trouble fishing jigs lately. I LOVE fishing them, I love buying them (unfortunately) I love everything about them. But I can't fish them if my life depended on it, I'd say honestly I'm producing 1-2 fish per full day of fishing, in an area I know has some serious fish. So to make it simple, and tips/tricks you guys have to help me fish my jigs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Alright, so I have the oppurtunity to score two killer deals on some awesome reels (Revo Premier and Lew TP). I plan on using these reels for a flip/pitch comebo, and a jig combo. Both of these combos I hear are best thrown on a reel with a high gear ratio. Only problem here, it the Revo is a 6.4:1, it's still 27.5 inches per turn, which isn't bad I guess, but it's not as high as the Lews. So the question is, out of the two setups I have planned, which would be easier to deal with, using a lower gear ratio than suggested? I think I am leaning towards the flip/pitch, due to a lot of my jigging will be in fairly deep water. Thanks!
  4. Went out and caught a 4.9lb and 4.5lb...no measuring tape...just my luck!
  5. Thank you all for the replies, I think I am gonna go ahead and scoop me a new combo now! I live in FL, so maybe a good punch rig for that ultra-heavy vegetation can double as an A-Rig setup. One more question though: Will a low-profile bc suffice? I watch videos and almost all big swimbait/a-rig users throw them on round reels, but the Lews SuperDuty really catches my eye.
  6. I owned a STX for a good month or so, and loved it. Extremely smooth, casting distance was very good, never really had any negatives about it. Although, some who have owned the older generations may tell you otherwise. If I am not mistaken, the Gen 2 was very popular with people, I am sure you could find one on Ebay for a decent price.
  7. Thank you all for the replies, crazy I probably should of done some deeper research into it, I must of read the only cases of bleeding to ever be recorded haha. Glad to know I can buy with confidence now, thanks!
  8. Question says it all. Really want to start fishing an A-Rig, along with some big swim baits, but the sheer cost of dedicating a combo just to A-Rigs and Swimbaits is pretty rough, considering Swimbaits are generally at least $30 a piece. So the question is, what other techniques can an a-rig setup be used for??? Thanks!
  9. I hear/read a lot of stories of people using braid, and having it bleed on the rod/reel they are using. Me being the way I am, I understand it may not harm the reel, but it would really bother the heck outta me. So, my question is, is there any braid that doesn't bleed? Or not as much as others? I really wish to spool up my flip/pitch combo with some 832, but the bleeding could drive me nuts. Thanks in advance for the help!
  10. I absolutely love my BB-1. Getting a Tournament Pro very soon and I am so excited!
  11. Length doesn't bother me much, many will say shorter rods to prevent hitting them, but just be careful and you will get used to it. As far as how many, as many as you want really. I can store 7 rods if I want, but I generally only bring 3-4. Usually 3.
  12. Orrrrrrrrrrr, you could donate your gear to a kind young man *cough cough* hehe, jokes aside, it seems you have your mind set on what you need, so I would do a compromise of sorts. Sell the gear you ABSOLUTELY don't need, then slowly but surely weed out each combo until you narrow it down to the perfect 8 you need.
  13. This is what I wanted to hear, thank you!!!! I'm basically doing what you did. Hopefully I can find a couple brands that I really enjoy using, then start focusing on them! Really appreciate the reply! Thanks for the help Cgrinder, glad to know I won't be disappointed in my choices. I know for the jig rod I am going with flouro, heard Abrazx is good? With the flip n pitch I think I am going with PP Super Slick 8 in Timber Brown (or yellow?), with Red Label leader (25 lb). Spinnerbait I have no idea, Yo-Zuri hybrid maybe?
  14. Man, that dark red color one (3 from right on bottom row) looks killer! Nice fish!
  15. Thank you for the advice, I have held all equipment except the ***, but from the reviews, I think I will take the chance on it. The biggest reason for the assortment of gear is price. I am finding some great deals on the gear I am about to purchase. Would I rather have all Avids on those reels? Sure. But the prices I am seeing for those rods is too good to pass up. I am pretty much asking for someone to tell me "just buy it and stop worrying". haha but thanks again for the help!
  16. I like 12 mono. I have gone lighter than that but never heavier.
  17. Alright so I have a fairly large purchase about to happen, and I just want some second opinions before I submit the order: 7' MH Falcon Bucco paired with Lews Tournament Pro (7.1:1) - Used for jigs, heavy texas rigs. 7'1" MH *** *** Black paired with Quantum Smoke (7.1:1) = Used for flipping and pitching. Either 7' MH Falcon Bucco or 7' MH St. Croix Premier paired with Daiwa Tatula (6.3:1) - Used for spinnerbaits. Plus assorted tackle and such. I almost feel like I am being way too varied in my brand choices. IS choosing so many different brands a bad idea? I am just trying to get a feel for whatever brands I like so later on I can start to build an arsenal around rods and reels I like. Also, what line should I use for each combo? I can't decide between PP and 832 (do either bleed on the reel?) or any of the other ones. Sorry for posting so many topics lately on this, I just can't decide and don't want to make a mistake. Thanks!
  18. I have been looking at the Smoke for two weeks. I wanna pull the trigger, but the Walmart shipping scares me. I don't have the best record with their customer service...
  19. Well that just added a whole new perspective on things. Thanks for the input, maybe if I can save up some money I can scoop two nice combos on Black Friday!
  20. Well, I guess it's settled. New jig setup here I come! Thanks fellas for the input.
  21. Thank you all for your suggestions. Seems like the Avid is pretty popular amongst you all. @rockchalk, I really don't seem to have a preference, although my cork rods seem to get a little slippery after awhile. But it's not a huge deal for me.
  22. Unlike some of you, I only have 4 combos. Slowly but surely I will build my arsenal, but I need to cover the basics first. So far I have: Treble Hook Baits (and spinnerbaits) Finesse Baits Flip-n-Pitch Ultra-Light So, what would you choose as your next combo to buy, given my situation? I don't have enough money to buy different combos for, c-rigs under 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce, etc. I am thinking a jerkbait/topwater combo, but I am open to all suggestions. Thanks!
  23. Here are my options: *** *** Black, 7'3" MH/F Dobyns Savvy, 7'3" MH/F St. Croix Avid, 7' MH/XF Will be used for flipping/pitching, and paired will a quantum smoke most likely. If you have any other good suggestions feel free to let me know! Budget is around $200, would rather not spend that much though.\ Thanks!
  24. @Catt, most likely that will end up being the solution, nice choice! @The Young Gun, I do fish in pretty clear water, preferred flouro brand? @Drewski, glad you like it! Do you think I should get the 7'1" or 7'3"?
