  1. I would say get him a combo less than $80 and go with him to Bass Pro and let him pick out $30-$50 worth of tackle. It would sure make me happy if someone took me on a shopping spree to BPS. But first make sure to tell him he need to take care of it and it's his responsibility now.
  2. The fishing articles up top are great. But I like visual things so I watched Glenn's videos.
  3. Anyone else care to contribute?
  4. Went today to the airport lakes from about 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The morning was pretty slow. Didn't have any bites till I hooked on to a big one, I think about 5 lbs, but she got away. Then I saw a huge fish, not sure if it was a tarpon or just a very large bass. Couldn't get it to bite. Was using a senko with a weight then I switched to weightless and got more nibbles than bites. Finally I hooked into one at about 11. We headed for the canals for peacock. Saw three large pea's, they were nibbling not biting. Tried a live shiner and they would rip them off the hooks without touching the hooks, their getting smarter! We decided to go back into the lakes and stopped at an area with lots of cover. Within 2 minutes we got a double hookup. About 10 minutes later we got another largemouth then headed home. Slow day but was fun to be out. Wish I coulda reeled in the big one, woulda been a great day for me
  5. Weightless senkos. Just let em fall slowly and small twitches.
  6. What about a dropping the bass section for dubstep? Lol
  7. I'd like to make this thread to help out everyone targeting Peacock. Just share your spots and we will all be happy. My spots: -Canal alongside the Palmetto next to Don Shula's Gold Course, connects to another canal that goes west towards I-75 -C.B. Smith Park -Griffin near I-75 -Vista View Park -Griffin and 441 -Miami International Airport Lakes (Blue Lagoon) -All canals connected to Blue Lagoon -Flamingo and Sterling Canal -Almost all lakes in private neighborhoods in Miramar/Pembroke Pines -C100 -C1 -C-14 -Fountainbleau and 97th Avenue Most of the canals/lakes in Miramar and Pembroke Pines have Peacock. Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing. *I'll update this as soon as people share spots.
  8. What about a peacock bass section. I'd like that even though they are a member of the cichlid family.
  9. Wow. This is great. Thanks for taking the time to write this. And yes I did see the stickied posts. The lure I was using is 3/8 ounces. I'll be going out tomorrow and see what settings work best for the lure. I'll be buying a new higher end reel in about a month or so and see if that helps. Thanks again!
  10. Thanks. I was thinking the same about getting a Lews Speed Spool. I hear so many good reviews on them. And yes I think I was casting hard for distance guess I'll go out tomorrow and keep practicing at it.
  11. Lou knows exactly where I am If you ever do want to go fishing for Pea's, I know an awesome place for them. Just PM me and I will let you know where
  12. So I bought a bait casting combo from BPS. It's a Bill Dance rod with a Quantum reel. It was $70 and I put Spider Wire mono on it. I forgot the names of them, but I adjusted the thing with numbers on and the other thing under the drag so the bait fell after clicking the button and was getting no backlash (I sound like such a noob, help) I was practicing casting and pitching with just a lead weight on the end. I was getting the hang of it and was no longer getting birds nest after only a day of practice with it. But then I went fishing with it and put on a rapala xrap crankbait and just kept getting backlashes. Any tips to help me cast with a really light lure? And what each thing does on the reel. I've seen videos on and the videos on the forum but I just don't really get what they do. I tried adjusting them for the crank but it wouldnt work. Also once I get comfortable with bait casting. I will be buying a reel in the $150 range. What do you reccomend?
  13. They fight like they're almost twice their size! Awesome fish to catch.
  14. When I caught this one I caught 3 others within an hour. We were sight fishing for the pea's and it's so awesome to see them and then get a reaction strike from them. Ahh gets your blood pumping. Going to head back out there tomorrow. It only 2 minutes from my house. I'm starting to love fishing even more (didn't know it was possible) now that I can catch peacock so close.
  15. Thanks it was caught in a canal that connects to the Cancun spot Finally caught a few there!
  16. Probably not much but I would like to know the weight. I didn't have my scale with me
  17. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 16 years old. I don't know why I love fishing so much. My dad hates boats and any kind of fish/fishing.
  18. What's your favorite line for a spinning rod? Brand? Mono? Flouro? Braid? I made the mistake of allowing someone else to choose my line and let's just say my last fishing expedition was not fun. Constant twists, bad memory, and bad memories for me lol.
  19. SnazzySenko... Senko because I love senkos and snazzy, not sure why buy it just sounds fitting.
  20. I've never had any luck fishing at Holiday Park. Normally fish there for about 4-6 hours and catch maybe 5 bass. Alligator Alley which is along I-75 is high pressured but somehow it just keeps producing 100+ fish a day. Try fishing slow like geo said. By slow I mean VERY SLOW like not touching your reel for 20-30 seconds then a few jerks and a little reel then let it sit again. It improved my fishing a lot. Patience is what it takes. You will start to learn the patterns of each place you fish. It's tough this time fishing the canals of Holiday because most of the fish are in the flats. Post-spawn will make it better.
  21. I've been through this same problem so I know what you mean. One of the biggest problems I saw was fishing high pressured areas. In your case Amelia Earheart, Tropical Park, and Vista View are very high pressured lakes because they are parks. You will see that fishing hidden ponds, lakes, and canals in non pressured areas produce a lot more fish because the fish constantly see the same things. Most of the time being worms and white/green/grey/etc crankbaits. When you go out do you try every bait (literally)? If a worm isn't producing I'll switch to a small shad colored crankbait. If that doesn't work I will try a fluke in green then white. Then it just keeps going. It may be tiring but it's worth it when you figure out what the fish like. I also reccomend keeping a fishing log (there is one here) for every place you fish. Check the patterns and find out what works from that. Another big factor is time of fishing. Go out dawn and dusk. Fishing at noon will probably result in poor fishing. If I remember anything else I will post again.
  22. Wow guys! You blew this thread up! Some interesting stuff here, thanks for the responses. I see most fisherman love to snack on beef jerky!
  23. HAHA! So I can start eating them again! We have proof! Lol
  24. Yup that's it. And yeah probably will happen.
