The red hooks are def more than just a confidence thing or a bleeding effect. Try putting them on the front hook of jerkbaits, especially if fish are really slashing at the back. You'll get better hook ups at the least. Also, with flukes a red hook or a red stinger hook can provide the same results. It's the red flash engaging the instincts imo.

hey guys, i had some ppl share some good info with me in here and thought i'd try and return the favor. I've been looking for a good orange silicone for a couple years now. Something that wasn't extremely harsh, (has some transparency). I found a color called cantaloupe on living rubber's site. It's definitely the best one I've found. Good for a bream skirt and if silicone will fade out in the sun like some hard baits do it would be spectacular.

Gotten on kick where I'm interested in fishing jigs/swimbaits with blue around the swimbait head and blue either on the jig head or blue skirt material flaired out around the underside near the head. Just wondering what blue you guys think is the best blue? True blue, light blue, turqiose, cyan. I guess another way of looking at it too, is not so much which blue, but who makes the best blue? What got me on this kick is hearing about swimbaits with blue around the head getting really aggressive strikes during spawning season, which can't get here fast enough. Thanks

Not everyone agrees with this, but when I am making a skirt for say a perch or bluegill I try to factor in whether I will imitating a perch or bluegill around grass or around rock for instance. If around grass, I throw in lighter colors, if rock darker colors. It may as subtle as choosing watermelon over green pumpkin or vice versa or adding 4 or so strands of smoke brown to go darker. Just my two cents. I also recommend checking out the yellow watermelon on that site you've been getting stuff from.

Caught my personal best from a public lake on one, absolutely unstoppable bait during the spring. Reaction Innovations shakey head was the best one i ever found, but picasso makes a decent one too.

Now that the pre-spawn stage is only weeks or a couple of months away I was hoping to get some input on understanding what areas bigger fish will stage at for the pre and post spawn. There is a point on here, indicated in orange, where I caught somewhere around 250 bass post spawn last year,not in one day, over a period of about 4 weeks,but couldn't get any size. I was thinking that the larger bass must be somewhere else. I tried moving down the point but the size of the fish never changed. They were all largemouth. I was hoping for some input on where the bigger fish might hold. This is a picture with the lake down several feet from full spring pool. The other two areas i've circled are areas that hold larger fish, spots and largemouth, but are community holes that get pounded several days of the week.

If you look at the rods that Iaconelli and one of the big FLW guys (I think it's Dudley) are using there's a ton of bend. Before I saw them using those rods, I tended to lean in that direction to give fish more time to take it in. I would sometimes recommend the 7'6" crankbait rod, but most of time I would recommend a composite to still get enough backbone to punch-pull those awful (z-man) hooks into the mouth. Either way I would say always 7'6" or bigger. You should also check out major league fishing's current season for some good tips. Ike pulls out a great technique which he calls "feathering" the bait and mentions why he prefers fluorocarbon over mono for those type baits. Bladed jig trailers is another really interesting topic to get into. I'm still searching for a clear number one. Alot of the FLW guys seem to prefer the swimming senko which is a solid choice. Dudley says he has done really well on the berkley rocket craw.

x2 on the smallmouth, there used to be a painted blade colorado spinnerbait called a bush hog i believe that had a wide swing on the swivel, a great muddy water bait.

It's great to see you thinking ahead for what you want to do with your future, that already gives you an advantage over millions of people your age. Much of what you're going to be doing with the rest of your life is going to be based on finding a competitive advantage or distinctive competency in whatever you choose to pursue. Even better news is that being consistently passionate about your pursuits and not letting adversity dampen those passions will always eventually put you in positions of opportunity and reward if you do not give up. In business, as well as marketing and advertising, there is something called a SWOT analysis. It's basically, just sitting down and writing out your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that are particular to you and your endeavors. You have already begun this process by understanding what internal areas you are strong in and what areas you are not. You also need to, when examining opportunities and threats, look at the job markets. For example, any liberal arts areas are going to be very difficult to succeed in right now. x2 on the st. croix, i don't use any of their rods but the 6'8" medium extra fast. There is not a better rod out there. I got to hold the $400 megabass rod specifically designed for the vision 110's last week and as incredible as it is, the st croix legend 6'8" had much better feel.
