  1. Thanks for the feedback guys, but the problem is the reel itself. The problem occurs when I am reeling in slack line (not through the rod guides), or nothing at all. It just happens as the handle rotates.
  2. I have a Quantum Smoke Baitcaster. It is otherwise perfect, but during the retrieve, the reel vibrates lightly. It makes it somewhat annoying to use, especially since my other smoke is as smooth as butter. Does anyone have any idea to what may be the cause? Thanks
  3. Do you guys like using feathered treble hooks and think they make a difference? I usually only put them on topwaters.
  4. Its a been a mediocre day of fishing and you're about to head back, but then, you see it: the bass of your dreams. If you had one cast to catch the monster bass, what "no-fail" lure would you use? You can place the bass wherever you want: in a weedbed, a laydown, rockpile, shallow/deep, winter/summer, bluebird skies/downpour. The only place you cant put him is in your net! For the sake of this question, you just have to get the fish to bite to catch him, so you don't have to worry about using stout hooks or heavy line. The bait I would throw is a weightless flick shake worm. I've found that the shimmy on the fall is key to fooling wary fish. What lure would you use?
  5. Xcalibur One Knocker (now a Booyah One Knocker) are the best lipless cranks I have ever used. Very distinctive deep thumping sound caused by one tungsten rattle as opposed to just "noise" from most other lipless cranks.
  6. I'm visiting relatives In Charlotte and am looking to cast my first line of the year there. (I live in NY and ice just came off about a week ago) Was wondering if any of you gentlemen can offer any good tips on fishing in the south? Thanks all and enjoy Easter weekend
  7. I wish i had some of those spinbaits or more scatter raps. I've never tried the spinbaits, but the scatter raps are good stuff.
  8. My normal outing is about 3 hours. I bank fish in NYC lakes and ponds, where there's a lot of pressure and they have all been on the decline for some reason for the past 2 years. I catch 2-3 fish. Once I get into college hope i'll be someplace more productive!
  9. I have used the super fluke to great success. I imagine the tiny fluke will be good as well being that the smaller profile would get more bites. I only tried the super fluke though
  10. Simply put, If I looked at my lure collection logically I have WAY too much. But if I just look at it I have way too little!
  11. I was looking through my box and stumbled upon this bait. Have no idea what it is. Does anyone know?
  12. I use braid on all my spinning reels and then use a 6ft or so mono or floro leader depending on the condition. Braid and spinning reels are a match made in heaven! You can feel every bite but with the leader the fish don't see your line. PS-Use the Bob Sands knot for all your leader connections. This knot is amazing. Absolutely the strongest line to line knot I've ever used. Really. Every time I get snagged and have to pop the line, the line pops either at the lure knot or somewhere on the leader, the bob sands knot never fails. It takes some practice to get used to tying but its well worth it. There are some good youtube tutorials.
  13. Looks like a lure by Arbogast. Don't ask me why but it really does.
  14. I like a really full jig, so at least 50+ strands. I trim the length down a bit so it doesn't look as bulky.
  15. Craigslist sometimes has guys selling huge lots of saltwater sinkers, which you can melt down and use as lead.
  16. Was wondering what you guys do when you snag a piece of cover like a brush pile. For me, being a bank fisherman, there are only two real options. I can either cut the line so I don't disturb the cover but this means I lose my lure and leave a long section of line in the water.the other option is to just pull as hard as i can disturbing the cover and (hypothetically)scaring the fish from the cover.I'd say that the second method is a 50 50 split between getting my lures back or snapping the line much closer to the bait, minimizing pollution. What do you guys do?
  17. Sucks that such a bass died. Amazing fish though.
  18. It is strange, but i highly doubt that yum would discontinue a such a great seller like the yum dinger. I wouldn't be surprised if its the best selling bait they produce. My guess is that they might make a new series (like F2 replaced LPT scent). i found lpt scent magic... i hope they bring it back.
  19. The bait monkey gets everyone, just wait until wintertime when cabin fever sets in!!
  20. I store them in the bag, I cant apply a lot of scent to them while they're in tackle boxes.
  21. I use bang garlic and megastrike.
  22. Look up videos on how to fish a flick shake rig. Its basically wacky rigging on a circle hook jighead and it is deadly on bass and works when nothing else seems to work. Super finesse and realistic.
  23. Xcalibur one knockers are awesome. Ridiculously durable paint finish, great colors, great hooks out of the box (If i remember correctly, i just always replace mine), casts like a bullet and a killer especially in colder water. They have a really unique sound to them because they only have one rattle. I would highly recommend them if you want to try out a lipless crank.
  24. Here is a very credible study about scents, several biologists are cited in this article. http://aaronlesieur.com/bass-fishing-articles/do-bass-really-smell/
  25. I fish in ponds relatively free of vegetation or wood so i use it with the non weedless internal tube jig. I cast it out and let it sit for a couple seconds, watching the line real closely. Then i pop it up off the bottom. Tubes with the internal jigheads have a spiraling fall, just like a dying baitfish. You can vary the number of pops for pauses and stuff. I put some garlic bang and mega strike on it for added attraction.
