  2. do you have a link to the study? I would like to ready it myself.
  3. They sound kewl!!! LOL, JK! I'm a gadget freak and a hardware snob, sometimes , so i purchased some at walmart, i think they were $5 for 4 weights 1/8oz each. i also noticed that the lead bullet weights i use have uneven and sometimes rough edges in the line hole, causing slight damage to the end of the line, tungstens are smooth as silk, they appear to be manufactured better and then painted black. i like that
  4. yep, they do this down here every month i think... i was going to join, but after researching the issue and coming to a believe that snakeheads do not hurt the local environment but rather complement it, i decided not to partake in the extermination efforts. for me they're catch and release, unless i plan on cooking one up M.
  5. I got the first one you listed, as well as some pliers, digital scale, and braid scissors... so next time we're on the water I'll not be bugging you about it thanks for all the advice guys! M.
  6. So I need a new backpack for fishing, and I want it to be a single strap one, cross shoulder. I had a great one years ago but gave it away I found this on Bass Pro: http://www.basspro.com/5-11-Rush-Moab-6-Ambidextrous-Tactical-Sling-Pack/product/13013005512321/ are any of you guys using something like this, and if so, which one would you recommend? thanks! Martin
  7. ^^^THIS Never pass up grown up activities LOL you need to be in your Zen when you go after that thing again and what batter way than...
  8. It always does BassinLou! It always does
  9. yea, i took all the advice on t-storms to heart... went out yesterday, and the second i got to my spot (on foot, 150 yards from my house) it started raining, black clouds moved in, and flashes all over. i packed it up quick and had some Scotch at home instead
  10. You're absolutely right! I knew I was taking a risk, but, I also knew that I was surrounded by taller structures, and having a lightning strike within yards of me before, I sort of knew i was relatively safe... my shoes were dry which is the key to surviving a strike near by. Then again, I was the only dumba$$ with a graphite rod out in the middle of heavy thunderstorm Some were hitting close to me, but with every flash I saw I counted seconds till the sound, and figured the closest one was about half a mile away, assuming 300 yards of sound travel per second. So I wasn't exactly in the middle of it, but they were a bit too close for comfort. And yes it was refreshing in the rain! The temp dropped by 10*F, plus the heavy overcast and some wind! It was great! I wasn't even sweating in my rain jacket! Well, maybe a little when I saw the flashes EDIT TO ADD: plus, it should show you my commitment, I mean, I'm willing to die trying to win this thing
  11. Call me Martin why middle of August, are you away now? I'm sure we'll have another tournament in August
  12. Well I finally have something I'm not ashamed of showing I went out from 6pm to 8:30pm today, it was raining cats and dogs, and not much bass... but it did rain some bass, LOL. Oh, and the lightnings were striking left and right, and I must say with every flash of thunder I saw I wasn't sure if it's just the light or a flashback of my life I'm about to experience Anyways, below is yours truly, as well as an 18" fattie I pulled on a zoom green pumpkin lizard on a 4/0 EWG and an 1/8oz weight. Dropped it across the canal and let it sink to the bottom, few seconds later I checked my line and there she was so I think my total is 2x 13" dinks plus this 18" == 44... not exactly a top spot, but hey, i'm not giving up yet
  13. You guys in S.FL. seeing this rain coming down right now? My pool just went up by 2 inches in last 30 minutes... the canals will be high too. So you think bite will be good tonight assuming it stops raining by say 6-7pm? Or is bite bad after heavy rains like this? What's your experience with this?
  14. ok so i'm on the right track, that's the color selection i've been using
  15. i've used many frogs and realized that there is only one true way to frog salvation: booyah pod crasher JUNIOR! smaller frog with smaller hooks, but still catches big ones. oh, and one other thing, braided line and drag set as hard as you can clamp it down. give them few seconds then make that fish see twice with your hook set. ever since i started doing the things mentioned, i stopped loosing fish on frogs, both bass and snakeheads!
  16. i couldn't agree more! to me part of the excitement is catching a pig on a new lure and presentation technique I've never used before, then repeating it and mastering that presentation. i started of with senkos, got my PB of 5lbs at the time on it, and after a while decided to switch to flukes, which i used for few months, caught few pigs and got comfortable with it... switched again to swim baits: lizards, and swim flukes, as well as some gambler ez swimmers and similar. fished the heck out of my local canals that way, and then found my new love: topwater fishing for snakeheads AND bass; so next few months were spent learning how to walk the dog (frog), and catch snakeheads as well as bass. when that got too boring, i switched back to swim baits for a bit, and recently decided to try jigs. now i'm getting jiggy with it, been trying to learn jigs for the last week or two, so far with limited success of one dinky bass, but i know that given enough time and patience i'll master that technique too :-) now the other day my wife must have though that i forgot to take my medication, because i was casting a jig with rage tail baby craw into our pool LOL :-) well, i was practicing and observing my presentation. i wanted to get a feel for what the jig is doing in 10 feet of water, and what better way to see that than in an illuminated crystal clear pool at night! stay thirsty for new techniques my friends!!!
  17. I have a crucial rod with chronarch on it, it's 6'8", MH-F, and I love it for t-rigged plastics. i'm getting a H-F 6'8" with chronarch 200E7 next, for jigs and top water frogging. i really love the shorter 6'8" rods, they're light, have good back bone to work fish out of cover, super sensitive, and cast great. i have one crucial and 2 compre rods now, and will be adding another crucial soon.
  18. I started fishing senko only and after few months I got so bored of it, I haven't touched them ONCE in at least 6-7 months. I know senko would solve my skunk issues, but i rather learn and do things the hard way to improve my skills :-)
  19. Hi Gang! So the recent trend of near skunk experiences has me on the depressed side of things... all I catch lately are small 1lbs dinks! Now I did have that one great day when I pulled 5-6 fish all over 5lbs and one was pushing 10lbs! But since then it's been miserable for me down here in S.FL. So I decided to do more jigging, I got some jigs in different colors as well as rage tail baby craw tails. Now I wonder what color to use... I have mixes of black and red, green and brown, black and blue. I rigged my rod for tomorrow with black/blue and dark blue/green tail, but am not sure if that's the right choice for my murky watered canals i'm fishing. the only bass i got on a jig was a small 1lbs'er on a green/brown jig with green tail. Any suggestions as to the color selection? I'm really starting to hate this summer fishing thing and am thinking about calling up SirSnookALot for some ocean fishing :-) HELP!!!
  20. Don't feel bad Juan, it's been hard catching anything lately... i got skunked again today, but then again, i fished from 4:30-5:30, so I should have known better to pick the worse possible time :-( I rigged on of my rods for jigs, with black blue jig and skirt and dark blue/green rage tail baby craw trailer; small 2/0 setup for finesse'ing it, i'll give it a shot, but i don't have high hopes...
  21. i don't get to fish early, i'm way too lazy for that :-) tough at times I hit the water with LgMouthGambler at 6am on his boat... BUT, most of the fish I catch happens between 7-8pm in the evening...
  22. I'm jealous man! I wish I was catching fish like this... I was few months ago, but lately it's been dead :-(
  23. you really have to hang out with me man! i went out for 2 hours to 3 spots today. first spot 0 bass. second spot 1 bass. third spot 6-7 bass. 2 of them i posted in the "S.FL. Bragging Rights Take 3" thread. nothing larger than 13 inches, most around 10-11, but hey! at least i was catching fish :-P
