  1. i'm using 50# powerpro on my curado/compre setup, it's my frogging/top water rig. when i hook a larger snakehead i get digging-ins sometimes. i'm considering going to 65# because of it. i would stick with 50#.
  2. I have a Chronarch 200E6 on a Crucial 6'8" MH/F, and it's an excellent swim bait/t-rig/plastic kind of combo. I'm running 14# pline on it also.
  3. OK, so far I'm at: May 10 2013: 18" (post #37) May 16 2013: 20" (post #75) May 18 2013: 20", 17", 14.5", 13.5" (post #81) Not sure if I'll get to fish this week, maybe Sunday at a B-Day party I'm going to ;-)
  4. well that should be a hint that the fishing gods disapprove of your tournament rules :-P
  5. yes you can call me that :-) the eye feel fine today for the most part. sometimes it feel like i have a small flake of dust in it, but it goes away if i blink hard enough. i think i'm fine...
  6. weak! so what if I didn't catch a fish for over a week :-) i think top 5 total lengths for a month is the way to go :-D but whatever :-D
  7. so how did you like it? it's your first shimano right? i think i'll switch my curado to 2 breaks and some spool tension. the flushing and oiling REALLY made a huge difference! also thinking about putting ceramics in mine :-)
  8. try it first as is. my chronarch e6 casts like a dream right out of the box
  9. and i plan on racing till the very last fish :-)
  10. makes sense. i hit the water at 6pm, and got off at 8pm. the best bite was between 6:30pm-7pm. then the last fish i landed at 8pm as the sun was setting... all on a hollow body Booyah Pod Crusher Jr. frog, my new favorite bait :-) top water action is AWESOME!!!
  11. thanks! it was funny the way is started off, i got 2 13-14" bass first that I didn't take pics of, thinking i'm never gonna win this thing with small fry like this, then i got a 3rd small one, and i'm like snap! better start taking pics! then the last 2 I hooked were 17 and 20" so yea... and the darn snakehead was bleeding so much and thrusting I got it's BLOOD IN MY EYES!!!!!!! kinda freaking out a bit, don't want to get a eye eating parasite or some nonsense like that... anyways, fishing was good, and weird. i went for 2 hours to my honey hole canal near my house, first 30 minutes nothing. then all the fish but the last one in 30 minutes. then an hour of nothing again, and on the way back i'm like, ahhh one last cast, and i land a 17" on :-) always good to do that one last cast :-)
  12. Brians!!! Braiiiiinnnnnssss!!!! Agggrgrrrrrrrr!!!!!
  13. Hi guys, medical question here... ...I caught a snakehead today, and it was bleeding bad from it's mouth. I knelled down to unhook it and it started thrusting. The blood sprayed all over my face and since I wasn't wearing glasses, it splashed right into my left eye. Now I doubt there are any pathogens or bacteria that can be transferred that way, but I don't know... so should I worry? Has this happened to you before? My eye feels just a bit sore after it. I washed my face after getting home (2 hours after the incident). If my eye doesn't feel normal tomorrow I'll probably have it looked at, but i'm a bit freaked out and wanted to hear your opinion... Thanks! M.
  14. So I fished it today for 2 hours, it was casting like a dream! I didn't want to go 2 breaks for now, maybe next time i'll give it a shot. today was all about frogging :-)
  15. Today's Catch: 4 Bass at: 13.5", 14.5", 17", and 20" Bonus catch: Snakehead just barely shy of 2ft See attached. BTW, is anyone keeping score officially, or do we do our own round up at the end (when does this end again?) M.
  16. i feel confident that i can cast with 2 breaks on instead of 3 :-) i tried it before and it made no difference, perhaps i'll try it today when i go fishing... any risk of professional overrun now that i tuned the reel?
  17. chronarch was my 3rd shimano reel I got (after citica and curado), and out of the box, on a 14# pline, a swim super fluke with a 1/8oz weight will cast 40-50 yards without breaking a sweat with 3 breaks and spool tension set properly, from a 6'8" MH/F Crucial rod. I can't imagine anything in the known universe casting better... then again, i never tried other brands :-D chronarch 200E6 I have is extremely smooth and tight! there's absolutely zero slack and zero wiggle anywhere on that thing. it's just darn solid!
  18. Thanks for the tip! I just increased my casting distance by 50%-60%! I flushed the bearings in alcohol, and also cleaned a bunch of gunk that was inside the reel. Oiled it using a thin gun oil (that's all I have). I just went out to try it out and it was flying way farther than before! Oh yea, cleaned and oiled the break drum too. Still on 3 breaks and properly set spool tension. I have to agree, read above :-) I'm casting a Jr Pod Crasher frog on a 50# braid and it's flying much better now! ================================================== One other thing... looks like it's not a good idea to put your reel face down on the grass while taking pics of fish :-) there was a lot of chopped up vegetables inside and all around my reel :-)
  19. Well about time you joined Judd!!! Welcome to the best bass fishing forum on the net!!! In this competition, we got for a month and top 5 fish lengths win! Good luck!!! P.S. Judd (SN13) has an unfair advantage, he has a honey hole right in his back yard!!!
  20. OK, my second catch is 20". See attachments below. I took the pic of the fish next to the rod, then measured the rod. 18" from my post #37. So I'm at 20" and 18" so far :-)
  21. around 4.5-5lbs in my profile pic, on a senko, though i think i might have caught larger ones but probably nothing over 5-6lbs so far...
  22. no, that i have not tried. i'll do all that tonight after fishing. will clean the breaks and flush and oil bearing. btw, i do not have any reel specific oil, but i do have some thin gun oil that i could easily apply. would that work?
  23. it's 2, maybe 3 months old. 10-15 outings with it maybe.
  24. soak in what? alcohol to dissolve the old oil first? i hear dry ceramics spin faster than lubed, but are noisy. is that true? 6'8" MH/F Compre.
