Fishing With Live Bait And A Bobber For Lazy Fisherman?
I went camping with my family and friends last summer. One of the guys on our site came to do a little fishing but had no clue what he was doing. Bought all kinds of stuff and some worms. He was skunked on the waters right in front of our campsite. I befriended him and "showed him the way". One fish drew some of the others over including my kids. About five of us spent the next few hours talking, drinking beers, smoking cigars all while casting out worms and waiting for the bobber to drop. One rod/reel amongst us all mind you! His girlfriend even took some of the perch we caught and cooked them up! They left more excited about the sport, I got to do some unplanned fishing alongside him and it was all over a hook and bobber. Time and a place for everything people.

Crankbait Box Help
I have a Strike King 3600 box with the following. I need to use them more too! KVD 1.5 (0-6 feet) - Chartreuse/Black back, Sexy Shad, Bluegill Series 3 (5-8 feet) - Pumpkinseed, Bluegill, Sexy Sunfish Series 4 (5-8 feet) - Chartreuse/Black back, Sexy Shad, Craw Series 3xd (9-12 feet) - Bluegill, Sexy Shad Series 5xd (13-16 feet) - Chartreuse/Black back, Sexy Shad Series 6xd (16 - 20) - Sexy Shad, Caribbean Shad I just picked Strike King because I believe that you need to get a feel for one brand across various depths. Once you gain more experience you can branch out from there.

Which Line For Baitcaster
I learned on mono after trying to learn on braid. After several paralyzing backlishes on braid I reverted back. I would suggest 17lb mono for the very, very beginner and work your way down from there.

Lake Champlain
Just drove up there this weekend with a friend to see the waters for ourselves. There is still a lot of ice on there but it's going away little by little. Funny story ... we took a rock and tossed out. It punched a hole through the ice and we ended up practicing our jig flipping into that hole for a little while since we were there anyway. Talk about 2 fisherman eager to get out on the waters to fish. It was good practice and it was fun ... LOL As for a meet and greet ... I am down for that. I'm also down for helping to coordinate it but I am not doing it alone. PM if you are interested in forming a committee for a Northern Meet and Greet.

Rapsody Rods
So ... I bit the bullet and bought 2 of their Hot Rod spinning rods. The Drop Em and the Tube Barrell. I picked them because I was looking for better quality rods for my finesse fishing. But because I am a co-angler I also needed something which was versatile for other things. I took them both out this weekend and they performed great. Here's the specifics for each day. Day one - Drop Em rod. I started with fishing the lure that the rod was intended for. The drop shot. The weather is still cold up here so I didn't expect many bites. Cold and windy but I was still able to launch my 1/4oz drop shot weight pretty far. I had great bottom contact. Much better than the old rod I used. I could feel everything on the bottom. Score one for sensitivity! I also tried many other things with it just to mess around. Swim Jig, Jig, Swimbait, weightless Senko and it all worked well. Score one for versatility. I did catch ONE fish on the drop shot. It was about 3lbs. My partners each caught one too but mine outweighed them both combined. Hehe Score one for confidence and bragging rights. :-) Day 2 - Tube Barrell - The weather was warmer but extremely windy. Gusts well over 10mph. It felt colder than the day before. Again I started off with using the rod for what it was intended for. The Tube. I used a Finesse Tube with 1/8oz internal weight. Again the sensitivity was there and it felt better than my Drop Em rod. I caught one bass on my 5th cast. I only got about 2-3 hours of fishing because the winds were getting worse. I ended up with two more bass. I was with 4 others on that lake and none of them caught anything. I'm sure the fish knew I just bought them and wanted to give me a good show. Seriously - They made a great 1st impression. I will be buying more in the near future.

Berkley Havoc Baits
My favorite is the Subwoofer. Swim it on top for a top water bait. Add weight and swim it for suspended fish. Add to a scrounger or swim jig. Fun lure to fish with.

Pond Fishing

Abu Garcia
Yes and Yes. Have them both and love them. Great rods for the price. The Pro I use with a 7' MH for flipping/pitching mostly and the 2 Silvers I use for everything else (Power Fishing Related).

Made In Usa Gear?
I just came back from my league meeting and they manufacturer their stuff in Mexico. They said they buy 100% american but assemble it in Mexico to be exact.

Trilene Knot
Just discovered it towards the end of last year. Has become my #1 knot. #2 is the Palomar for hook to line.

Weening Off Senkos
I understand that feeling. One guy in my league seems to fish these exclusively. When I am fun fishing I try and steer clear of the senko in order to learn other tricks. If on tournament day senko's are the way to catch them I will stick with it.

Why did I read this with a whisper Bet you did too ...

Pond Fishing
I have begun experimenting with using a swim jig as a search bait. If I get a bite or strike I can then immediately slow down and treat it like a regular jig. Fun way to spend a day at the pond. I did this with marginal success for the 1st time last week at a pond which is accessible from all around.

Rapala Scatter Rap?
Tried it today. I really love the action on these lures. Didn't catch anything but it wasn't the lure per se. I couldn't catch anything with any lure I threw from the bank.

Spinning Or Casting
Use what you have confidence in during the tournaments. (Assume spinning) Master the baitcaster and then bring both.

"technique Specific" Subforum
I like the idea however ... What do we do with all the legacy data specific to these techniques? Enough people put posts in the wrong place as it is. I would suspect this is going to be an administrative nightmare one way or another.
