Gain Confidence
This is how I practiced at a pond filled with 1lb bass. I practiced my drop shot technique, senko/stick-o wacky rigging..and next I will be doing the same with cranks. (I don't have much experience with them). It really helps gain confidence to feel how a strike feels with the different presentations.

Day After Heavy Rain
So I was all stoked to finally take out my customized inflatable boat Saturday morning on a local electric only reservoir. The forecast was suppose to be cloudy and rain off and on originally a couple days ago and Saturday morning was to be cloudy. All that changed in the last 48 hours and now Friday is heavy rain over 2 inches called for. Really haven't ever fished after such heavy rain, my question is will this affect my long anticipated voyage..lol (been planning this for 2 months) and be disappointed on the fishing? or is it going to be awesome? or no affect? Right now the water is higher than normal even before the rain today (about 1' higher, don't know the temps). The part of the reservoir I'll be fishing is at deepest 15' and has a lot of cover..timber/stumps, trees, weeds...I usually fish the shoreline and a small cove (my favorite spot, has lots of timber and a nice drop 4ft to 10 ft) and usually hit the standing trees too (Still haven't caught the lunker everyone says there are in them trees). Will this pattern continue to do well? The clarity of the water from a couple of days ago was about 2-3 ft..I guess after all this rain it will be chocolate milk. Really am disappointed, I was hoping for the forecast from a couple days ago. The reason for the excitement is that I was going to practice my pitching/flipping while standing up (couldn't do that in my canoe). It was hard as heck to pitch/flip from a canoe and be accurate. Specifically, I keep hearing them trees have 6+ lb bass (plus deepest part of the lake 15'). Heaviest I heard someone catch was 7.33 lbs, up here in Ontario that is huge! So I was going to spend my day there spamming them trees, So, should I delay or try my luck?

Bps Tournament Series Stik-O's
The Stik-Os work great and last longer than the GYCB. I would stick with the 4" and 5".

Citicas
Wow great grab, I would've too definitely at that price point. At 100 each I would've bought it as well.

What Got You Guys Into Bass Fishing?
in general what got me into fishing was my dad. It was the only time my dad and I would act like buddies and not restrictive. Basically not my dad when we fished. What got me into bass fishing, not sure it just "clicked" last year. Guy said he was quitting bass fishing and I traded him some stuff for it. Then did a lot of "research" in trying to learn the different techniques. (I was a worm and bobber fisherman before and was frustrated to keep catching panfish after panfish.) Bought some jigs and 4" curly tail Powerbait worm...bam catch my first bass...and I was like holy cripes!! THIS WORKS!! Been hooked ever since, it now consumes most of my day and time. Everything I see is bass fishing, lol...when I pass a body of water that looks like prime bass water, I feel like jumping out and start fishing.

Not arguing with you and yes I'd prefer quality..but I think the G is a quality reel too. I own Curado Es and Gs. I find no issues in performance between them. Actually fish my Gs more than my Es, not because I like them more just happens that way, I actually think I can cast further..but I haven't really tested theory, I could really care less as it has performed for me just as well as any reel in my arsenal. Not saying the Es are inferior just saying the G isn't as inferior as everyone overstates.

If you want a cheaper reel than the President..go for one of the Shimano low end reels. They work well too and you can beat them up and they still work. Like stated in my last post I own a Zirca reel that should work or Sienna reel could be an option. They both are cheaper than the President. Steer clear of the Abu cheapo ones, as I had a Cardinal Agenda and 302i both their drags died on me and my Shimano Sienna and Solace has no issues pulling in fish. I use them for salt water too and they are still ticking.

How Far Do You Travel To Fish?
I am fortunate to have lots of bodies of waters to fish where I live. We have a river that goes through the city I live in, takes about 5 minutes to get to. A conservation area that is free if you walk in or you can get in from other public areas of the reservoir (10 mins). 2 man made ponds (10 mins), 20 mins away is another lake and river north of us, another 20 mins west is another river (one of the better river systems), ponds there...and 20 mins south west of us, two lakes and a back wood pond that I keep to myself. Lots of opportunities for me, but my two favorite is the local reservoir and ponds because they are so close. I want to do more river fishing, but I haven't done that yet. Really need to do some scouting with my canoe.

Buzzbait Vs. Spook
You should try it, I wasn't a believe either until I used it last season over deep water. The water I was fishing it was 20+ and some parts reach 30-40 feet, smallies came out of nowhere trying to kill it. It was fun to catch and see.

Better yet, ask for a bulk deal. 2 for 300

Breaking Rods Too Often
Yeah it is nuts on how the boat a bass. I would never think of doing that, even hesitant on a small 2lb bass. I'd prefer to reach down and lip it or net it.

Well I'm not a spincast expert, but I found that those inexpensive spincasts especially (like my daughters shakespeare combo), do not have especially good drags and has a hard time battling any fish. For instance my daughter caught a 1.5 lb large mouth bass. She had a heckuva time reeling it in, when she uses my cheap spinning set up (Shimano Zirca 2500)...night and day she had no problems bringing the small fish in. I just don't think the lower end of cheap spincasts can hold up to a real fight. Then again I'm no expert.

Yeah thehooligan has stated it can be done by using the Core gearset.

Definitely think this will happen, but the 7.1.1 thing probably not.

Reel Dilemma
x2 this...I don't have any experience with the Abu reel, but I find my Shimanos get better with age.

Shimano Curado Dhsv
You should've jumped all over that deal, those go for 150 around these parts used.

Affordable Versatile Casting Rod?
Yeah even the BPS ones don't honor it either. That is why you stay local and do business with the local guy. They will take care of your better imho.

What Kind Of Rod Should I Get Next
I would base the next setup on what you find you're throwing mostly. If it's jig and worm, soft plastics. I'd go with the MH/F rod and I prefer a 7 to 1 ratio reel as I like to pick up the slack quickly for a hook set. If you throw cranks more than plastics, I would recommend what roadwarrior recommended, I'd get a 5 to 1 or lower reel. The the next one should be either or in your arsenal. To round out the rods, I'd probably go with another M/F rod like the 6'6" M/F - jerk bait rod and get another MH/F for spinnerbaits. Then use your heavy rod as a flipping stick. You will now have all situations covered on a single setup.
