Also check the eyes on the rod for nicks etc. Check the hole where the line comes out on the cover. Seems something could possibly be cutting the line.

As dumb as we may think they are rules are rules. It is every anglers responsibility to know the rules for every body of water and the states bordering it. Plus the organization you are fishing for.

I use a Lewis Super duty and a Abu 5500.

Don't take this the wrong way but if your palomar knot is slipping then it isn't being tied properly. Palomar knots tied properly don't slip. I mainly use 20# power pro from freshwater to medium saltwater and never had a Palomar slip. Take your time tying it, watch some YouTube videos etc. And practise tying it. Good luck.
