Supermoon Snook Fishing

My buddy Justin called and said the Snook bite should be on and he was right!  We had so much fun we went out the next night too, with our friend Ron! We ended up with about 20 total snook over the two nights and a few other "junk" fish (JACKS) that were also tons of fun to catch.  Unfortunately, snook season is closed, but they are still great fighters!  Oh, all were on lures, live bait is for CHEATERS, lol!

Good times and nice fish!

Linesiders are on my bucket list of fish to target if I ever get to Florida one day.  Sounds like you hada great couple of nights on the water!

Snook are awesome.   Almost like saltwater bass...we fish for them much same way.    Spooks, crankbaits, swimbaits, jerkbaits, jigs.  I use my bass gear for them.

When a 20lb snook smashes your spook on a calm morning, you better make sure you've used the restroom already.

Hmm...

Didn't see this thread two months ago. If the season was closed, why were you fishing for them?

Closed season in the ocean means you can catch them but not keep them.  Much different that freshwater, where targeting a fish in closed season in forbidden!

You do what ya gotta do.

Choice pretty easy for me to make, struggle in the hot sun to catch 2# bass this time of year, or go to the ocean with nice comfortable breeze with a chance of catching a 20 or 30 pound snook.  Catching a slot even in season isn't easy, many of the fishing are running more 32", but it's more than snook.  Tarpon run with snook and a tarpon are in a different league.

Yeah you can target species all you want, but you cannot keep them.  All our snook were quickly pictured and released after making sure they could right themselves and swim off.  As soon as the season opens, the bite usually turns off, go figure!
