Smallmouth Bass As An Invasive Species?
Invasive species, no matter what they are, are a huge threat ecosystems everywhere. Invasive species change ecosystems forever and have unforeseen effects on the ecosystems that they were introduced into. Fisheries Biologists have a pretty good idea what they are doing. They have much more knowledge on the subject then most people.

That's Photoshopped!!
Cheats, liars and fakes.... they all suck. Not exactly quality traits. It is what is. If its a 5 lb 0 oz bass then that's what it is. If it is a 4 lb 12 oz bass then that is what it is. Why lie about it ? If you see a pic of a photo shopped "10 lber" then go ahead and call them out on it, or don't. It doesn't really matter.. Personally it does bother me to a certain point when some one claims that the fish they caught is much bigger then it actually is. Chances are that they didn't weigh it or measure it so to them that fish is as big as they feel it should be in there mind. I weigh all the big bass I catch and check my scale often. I can read a scale. This past fall I caught a 9 lb 1 oz bass in Maine. I posted the picture online and for the most part people were congratulatory. There were a few though that doubted the size of the fish, even after I posted the video of me weighing it on a scale. Those few select individuals really, really ticked me off. If some one feels they need to lie or exaggerate the size of a fish they caught to make themselves feel good or give the impression that they are a better fisherman then they are, then let them, that is pretty sad.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Fished after work again yesterday with my friend Brandon. We fished for about 3 hours. The weather was mostly cooperative, calm winds and mostly cloudy. Between the 2 of us we caught 23 bass. Nothing really picture worthy. Most of the bass were around 2 lbs, a lot in the 16-17 inch range. Caught most of our fish on rubber worms and spinnerbaits.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
After a late night last night I decided to sleep in just get u and go fishing when ever I woke up. I arrived at the boat launch at 8 am. The parking lot was full. there were 14 boats already launched. I almost decided to go somewhere else but decided to go for it anyway, I was already there. I launched my boat and just started fishing. It certainly was a slow start. I assumed the northeast wind had something to do with the poor fishing. I just kept plugging along catching a fish every now and then but nothing of any size. I spoke with a couple of guys fishing in there boats and they said it had been a really slow morning. Then the wind picked up pretty good. It stared blowing 10-15 mph out of the northeast. It started getting a bit choppy out on the water. A few boats left once the wind had kicked up, then it began to rain. Most people decided to call it a day. I elected to stay. After an hour or so the wind calmed down significantly and the rain stopped. A front had just passed and the bass were biting ! The afternoon bite was insanely good. I had the place to myself for the most part. Sometimes it pays to tough it out and stay with it. I caught 27 largemouth and 1 smallmouth for the day, as well as a bunch of pickerel. Lunker fof the day. 6 lbs 0 oz 21.75 inches 5-8 5-6 5-1 Got a 4-1 and 5 between 3-4 lbs as well but didn't take any pics of them. It was an amazing way to end an incredible month for me, 19 bass over 5 lbs for the month. Hopefully June will be just as awesome !

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Fishing this past weekend was exceptional. I usually take a friend of mine fishing this weekend ever year. More often then not we go smallmouth beds fishing. It is fun we catch lots of fish but this year we decided to go fishing for some hawg largemouth. We fished all day Saturday and Sunday as well as 4 hours on Monday. In the three days I caught 46 largemouth and 24 smallmouth. My friend caught a bunch of bass as well including the three biggest bass of his life. The weather was very perfect for fishing. It was in in he low 70s each day and we had passing showers each day with relatively calm conditions. The water temperature was as warm as 65 degrees. It was mostly cloudy each day. There were still some smallies on beds but we were already seeing bass fry. We concentrated most of our effort fishing fro big largemouth. We caught them on a variety of lures, plastic worms, jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and even caught a few on a frog. It was an amazing weekend. Each day we caught some huge bass. For the 3 days between the two of us we caught 7 bass larger then 5 lbs and a few very heavy 4s as well. We landed quite a few fours and a bunch of 3s. It was the best weekend of fishing that my friend and I had ever had while fishing together. It was a great time for sure. It was a bummer losing a ginormous lunker on one of the last cats of the day but, such things happen. I think that my friend will want to go fishing to that lake again soon. 6-2 5-5 6-12 5-7 6-0 5-5 5-14

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
I got out fishing after work yesterday for about 4 hours. It was my first time fishing the pond we went to. The water temperature was surprisingly very warm, 67 degrees. We saw a lot of empty beds but a couple fish still were on them. We caught a lot of pickerel. We didn't get a bass bite for over an hour to start of our outing. Once we figured them out then we started catching a couple. I ended up catching 5 largemouth and my friend caught 3. Between the two of us we caught 15 pickerel. All of the bass were between 2 lbs and 2 3/4 lbs except for one good one I caught on a jig. It was well worth making the drive after work to catch a few bass on a beautiful may afternoon. The good one. Measured about 20.5 inches, its tail was pretty beat up. It weighed in at 5 lbs 3 oz. My biggest bass so far in Vermont this year.

What are the bass doing where you guys are ? Last weekend I saw some male largemouths making beds. They are shallow. I even caught one while he was making a bed. The cold weather we have this week should push them back off. It seems like it is going to be the usual spawn time like it is every year at least for where I am fishing. Smallies spawn in the last two weeks of May. Largemouth spawning the last few days of May and the first week of June. Every water is a little different depending on a couple factors but generally what I said above I have found to be very true atleast for the areas I like to fish in western/southern Maine and Vermont.

Who Wants In New England: May
It was an amazing day in May today. An absolutely magical day. The big bass were biting real well today. It was overcast and misting when I arrived at the boat launch at 8 am. The water temperature was 55. I went directly to the spot I did so well at last week. They were still there and they were hungry. I was able to cull 4 of my fish today. The jig bite was on. 5 lbs 8 oz 21.5 inches 7 lbs 0 oz 23 inches 6 lbs 5 oz 21.25 inches 5 lbs 14 oz 21.5 inches 5 lbs 11 oz 20.75 inches 5 lb 1 oz It was one of the best day of fishing I have had in a long time. It is unfortunate that the 23 inch 7-0 was super super skinny. The five biggest bass for the day weighed in at 30 lbs 6 oz, the second biggest one day bag I have had. The morning bite was better but I caught fish all day mostly on a jig and a couple on a crankbait. I caught 22 largemouth today, 1 7lber, 1 6lber, 4 5 lbers, 2 4 lbers, and 1 3 lber. I also caught 3 smallmouth the biggest being about 2.5 lbs. It was a crazy amazing day of fishing. I will be going back there the next two days. I am taking my mom there tomorrow, hopefully I can put her on a 5 lber.

It is all about perspective. I personally usually target bigger fish. There are days though when all I want to do is catch a LOT of bass. Ideally I would like to catch a lot of big fish. That usually doesn't happen. Each body of water is different and some bodies of water simply don't grow big fish. As far as learning a new body of water.. It is not easy. Like Nev said you got to pick an area and learn. That is difficult on big water though. One thing about bass fishing is that you shouldn't second guess yourself. Have confidence in what lure using and where you are fishing. Who is going fishing this weekend ?
