  1. <=======This guy does not like braid. I use str8-up mono 95% of the time. It's been working to catch fish since before I was born and will catch fish just fine until the day that I die. Jay-
  2. The head row team guy has approval to have a larger motor on his pontoons. But I have seen others not know and fly around the Occoquan reservoir. Jay
  3. I personally have seen people with bigger outboards tilled all the way up. I am not sure if they have gotten in trouble or not. You may want to contact the prince William county park authority for clarification. I am pretty sure as long as they don't catch you using your outboard you will be fine. On a side note I do tournaments on that same reservoir and occasionally need a partner if your interested. Jay-
  4. Yeah I can see why no one believes that is a 8 lbs fish. Fish's mouth looks barely big enough for that guys hand to fit in. The 8 pounders I have caught and seen had a mouth big enough to almost put 2 fist in. I have a picture of a 6.60 that I caught and in my picture it looks big enough to eat the one in your friends picture. The picture of the fish I was referring too in the OP was scrutinized by all the regular fishermen from work and we all unanimously agreed no way in bleep it was 8 lbs. Most of the guys I work with are tournament fisherman in their 50's. Lots of experience in judging weights. Jay
  5. I am going to be generous and say that fish is in the 5 lbs range. The way he is holding his arm out and the size of the mouth compared to his hand makes me think smaller. You mentioned it was big for the river and I have seen 8 ponders come out of the river I know it's not in that range. Jay
  6. I don't trust spring scales they are very hit or miss. Jay
  7. I don't mind if it's kids but when they are older than I am, I just have to smile and walk away. Some people get a little touchy, when you question them! Jay-
  8. Okay this is getting kind of annoying! I was walking with my lovely wife at a park when we passed a fisherman throwing a jerkbait. So trying to be nice I ask "how's the fishing". The guy lights up and replies "it's amazing, I just caught a 5 lber". I said "wow, that's a good fish". To my amazement he asked if I wanted to see it. I was a little confused but agreed. The man walked over to his hidden stringer and pulled up a bass that was a little over 2 lbs. My wife started to say something and I gave her the look. I congratulate the guy and walked away using every bit of self control not to call him out. I explain to my wife, sometimes it's just better to walk away and just let him have his moment. Where I work there is a little honey hole a bunch of people fish during lunch. We have a little intranet web page where pictures and stories are shared. One day all the people in the office were asking me if I saw the picture of the guy who caught the 8 pounder. Everyone in my office knows I fish everyday during lunch so they ask if I have ever caught one there that big. I say no, my biggest is 7.2. It is possible to catch that quality of fish there so I went to check it out. I was in true disbelieve when I saw a guy holding a 4 lbs fish. I guess what I am getting at is if it is the biggest fish you ever caught don't show your ignorance and guess how much it weighs. Maybe not a big deal to some people but to others it's annoying. Am I alone here? Am I looking at this all wrong? what is your experiences with this? Jay
  9. Lol again. I didn't want to burst any bodies bubble!
  10. The body of water that I fish is strange. I have been in tournaments where my partner is throwing black red glitter and I am throwing the same bait but black blue glitter, and I don't get a bite till I switch. I have also seen where I am catching them on watermelon Senko and my partner can't get bit on a cotton candy Senko. I like to have all my baits cause I don't get to prefish and won't know what these fish may want on any given tournament. Being organized with tackle is the key for me. I have never fished a kayak but can see the struggles with room for tackle. They should make a tow behind floating tackle box that would be awesome! Jay-
  11. touché.. Great Point. was hoping that something was out there made for just this type of application.. I think I am going to have to hook up with a tackle bag company Thanks again Hanover Yakker Jay
  12. This is a easy one TacBob.. Go out there a hour before sunrise or a hour after sunset and throw a big Popper style bait or propeller bait. Try fishing it slow first then if that does'nt produce go a little bit faster. Here in Va bass like the poppers a little slower when I was in Florida the faster the better. Make sure to wear camo or dark colored clothing. Be warned its a killer technique for spring hammers! Jay-
  13. That style of bag is for hard plastic containers it says it will 4 360 boxes. Im with bassthumb I like to keep my baits in there original containers. I fear that the boxes will dry my baits out. Thanks for the tip though! Jay
  14. The $2 dollar shoe box would work for holding them neatly in the boat, but not very functional for transporting them around. I am still looking for some something a little more portable. I have a tackle bag for my terminal tackle/ a bag for my hard baits, now some sort of portable container should do it. Not sure how I feel about the rings, as soon as they start ripping when I need to get to them, I think I may loose it..LOL Thank you all for your tips. Jay-
  15. can you send me a link to the bag you are using? Or just the brand name so I can check them out? I never thought about looking in a hardware store. Good tip. Jay-
  16. Thanks Clayton, I have a 16 foot boat that does not have a lot of storage. The zip lock storage is bag is one idea I didn't think of. In my old bag I had them upright with worms then senkos, flukes, finesse in one column then craws, creatures, lizards, chunks in the next column. I fish a lot of tournaments and the quicker I can grab something the better. Thanks for the tips. Jay-
  17. Where to start? About 3 years ago I received a hummingbird tackle bag with the purchase of my depth finder. I used this bag for all of my soft plastic baits (75 bags +) it was packed, but i knew where everything was. Last season I ripped a hole in it being careless. I am on the market now for a new bag to use for a similar application, but cannot find a soft plastic bag that will work. I am not a fan of hard storage box for my plastic I feel like they may dry out my baits. From what I am gathering the only other option are these binders. I believe that would require me to transfer my baits from the bag they come in to another binder bag. What are you using to store you soft plastic baits? What would work the best? Jay-
  18. Try secondary points with a drop shot rig. Similar conditions here and it's working. I am new to the drop shot but I seem to be getting better at it. another tip is try shallower than you think. You might be surprised how shallow they can be when water is cold. If all else fails cover water with a square bill crank. Jay-
  19. Depending on where that pond is and what the water temp is I would consider a Jerk bait this time of year or even a big spinner bait. Usually pond bass will hit almost anything if there is no fishing pressure there as you mentioned. I would probably stick with a spinner bait though, you can cover a lot of water and around here anyway they produce pretty big fish. Jay-
  20. How does that say going, "Give someone fish and feed them for a day!! SHOW THEM HOW TO FISH AND THEY WILL NEVER STARVE"! Snakehead/Catfish/Crappie fish fries are awesome though! Jay-
  21. LOL.... the internet!
  22. If you are launching out of hope springs in your jon boat there are a lot of spots to fish. If you are just trying to catch fish throw a little grub along the banks and boat docks. That little 3in grub also works well in the cove across from boat ramp a little to the left. If you are after big bass get your rattle traps and senkos ready. I would start where everyone else starts when fishing out of hope springs. That would be the train bridge, both sides and make long cast to the bank next to the bridge. If you come out of the marina and go right (towards the river) on your right a little ways past the train bridge there is a bunch of boat docks to fish. Just past the train bridge on the left there is a gravel bank that opens to a big grass flat, awesome spot for the trap to work. If you take your boat and go left out of the marina (that would be going away from the river) you will hit a point where it bottle necks to a creek. The point of that bottle neck is very deep (relative term (14-18 ft) jigs and t-rigs work well there. Hope you can follow all this trying to type fast late for a meeting... Jay-
  23. Cant post anyting on the internet that isn't true!! LOL LMFAO ROFLMAO Jay-
