Thoughts On My New Gear?
First I want to say I appreciate everyone's help so for. Thank you. I asked, I researched and I tried to read on what would suit my initial purposes and I believe this set up may get me on the right road. BPS Tourney Special Spinning Rod 7' one-piece medium action. Pflueger Trion 4735GX7 Reel Stren 8lb Clear mono Senko 5" in 194 and 297. I plan on fishing them weightless and per the article I found here.: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/?hl=%20guaranteed I know, it's not exact but I worked with what I had.

Shipping Ammo
Who told you you needed an Hazmat license? Basically box it well and market ORM-D and you're good to go. I've shipped thousands of rounds and it's not difficult. It does have to go ground though. http://www.ehow.com/how_6606920_ship-ammunition-via-ups.html

Just A Quick Newbie Observation
Thanks to everyone. I am a little OCD when it comes to preparedness all of the options available seemed crazy. However after reading all of your posts I've come to the conclusion I'm going to buy a spinning rod and a bc rod, a small selection of lures and go for it. This, along with a couple of crappie rigs for the kids, will get me started. Now if I can get off the bank Thanks again for everyones help.

Made In Usa Gear?
Flyfisher, Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't mean to imply that products not made in the USA is crap or that one should sacrifice just for the "made in the USA" label. I didn't mean for it to come off as an "us vs. them" mentality. I only wanted to inquire as if I'm given a choice between two products where no opinion on either is present, they I would rather support the people here rather than people abroad. For example, I am reading that St. Croix rods are great and they're made here in the USA. So I would not be remiss in purchasing a St. Croix rod. I'm sure I'll find my gear rife with products from manufacturers from all over. But being new again in the sport I would like to support a person or a family over a corporation. It's just my opinion.

Just A Quick Newbie Observation
Overwhelmed. I just joined yesterday and have already spend a few hours reading and searching. I remember bass fishing being complex with lure types, water types, weather, etc. etc. but what I've read so far almost has me a little discouraged. Spinning rigs were rare when I fished (30 years ago) and now they seem to be another useful tool in the arsenal. Braided line? 100 lb test? Bluefin tuna anyone?? I realize there is no such thing as a "do everything" rig but specific rods for crankbaits and spinning baits? Jigs, Plastics, I'm still not 100% what finesse baits are too. I was hoping to find a set up I can ease my way back into getting started but with so many specific applications I almost feel like I wont be successful without having a half dozen rods and tons of tackle. I'm going to start with a baitcaster in a 6'6" to 7' M range some spinning baits and shallow cranks. I don't think I can handle soft baits yet as I know that's an acquired skill set. I can see I'm going to spend way too much money Any patient Alabama fishermen willing to help a newb? So far I really like the forum and look forward to reading a lot more.

Made In Usa Gear?
I'm new and unfamiliar with a lot of brand names. I know there is a lot of top quality gear out there by many different manufacturers however being a veteran and coming from a family of small business owners I appreciate gear made in the USA and small businesses. Are there certain American companies for rods, reels, etc? Thanks for your time

Alabama Bass Club Cba Central Bass Anglers New Members
Hey all, I'm new to the forum. Is this club just for tournaments? I've recently decided to get back into fishing and was hoping to meet some people I can fish with. I am in the Birmingham (Shelby county) area.

New Alabama Member
Hello all. I'm new to the forum and glad to be here. I'm in Birmingham, Alabama and very interested in getting back into bass (LM and SM) and crappie fishing. I wanted to be a B.A.S.S. Pro about 30 years ago but had every piece of gear stolen and gave up fishing. My kids are starting to get older and now they're interested in fishing so it's reignited my passion. I'll probably read more than post and I may ask a stupid question or two but will try to prevent that by searching first. I'm looking forward to starting from scratch as there's no other way to put it. thanks Mike
