  1. I bought a BPS Carbonlite and it's a great rod. I'm new to fishing so don't have much to compare it to but as a newbie I don't think you could ask for more for that price point.
  2. I looked into the H2O Mettle but they do not (or I didn't see) a LH model. That's the only downside IMO
  3. I'm in Birmingham. I'm an old boy and don't play but I've been out a few times. My son will be playing flag rugby this spring. Fishing AND rugby? We've got a lot to talk about.
  4. I've played rugby since I was 14 including at a major university with a top rugby program and internationally. I think rugby should be the national sport of the USA. It's a true test of toughness and athleticism and there is ZERO reason why we shouldn't dominate other than it's not integrated into our culture.
  5. How much? Which reels will they fit? What colors?
  6. I just returned a Diawa reel to BPS and all they did was look in the box and tell me to get another one. (it was within the 30 day limit)
  7. I would be interested as well as I'm in Birmingham
  8. Thanks everyone. Like all of you I work hard for my money and don't want to buy crap. Although I have a great mechanical aptitude I don't want to have to start tweaking and tuning a brand new reel. I've heard many of you say there is a lot of parody among the good reels but am still a little gun shy to get a "lemon"; or to understand the differences a carbon fiber body vs. a aluminum body for a novice as myself. Thanks again for your thoughts, this is a great site.
  9. If I had to apply a percentage to it I would say perhaps 60% 6-10ft baits, and 25% shallow and 15% deep. I'll be primarily fishing from the bank so that's what is dictating those percentages.
  10. I like the way it feels in the hand and it seems smooth (all reels are smooth when new) I just don't have the experience to pick out the little nuances. It's seems like a real nice reel and I'm happy with how it looks and feels in the hand (if that counts for anything) so now it's time to go fish it.
  11. I've read here that the BPS Crankin' Stick seems to be an outstanding rod for the money for crank baits. I was in BPS today taking a look at them and they have two different models, one that is a fixed one piece rod and the other that is a telescoping rod. The rods are 7'6" and the telescoping rod reduces the length by about a foot. I have concerns that the telescoping rod my get premature wear from casting and movement. I don't necessarily have a "need" for a collapsing rod but obviously it could be convenient. Also, would a M or MH be the better choice? Thanks for your time.
  12. My nearly brand new Diawa AIRD reel developed a bad grind after a few outings so I went back to BPS to exchange it for a different reel. The consensus seems to be (and I've already bought one) that the BPS PQ is a great reel for the money, especially on sale at $79.00 However, I was made an exceptional deal on a Quantum KVD 101 HPT and pulled the trigger on that one. It seems like a great reel and although I know from reading here and my brief experience the PQ is excellent for the price, was getting the Quantum the smart decision? Thanks for your help.
  13. I'm new but what I did to prevent me from going wild and having too much was to buy a small tackle bag. Now it forces me to limit what I can carry. Now the issue is learning what to fish where.
  14. I'm new as well but a hearty warm welcome. This place is awesome. Where are you in the Sunshine State?
  15. I thought Abu's were made in Europe? (Sweden?)
  16. I have no experience with these rods but have handled a few in the store and they seemed nice, potentially even worth a future purchase. However after reading this thread and doing some more research, I will not be spending my money with E21 at all.

Sorry to hear about that. Here's to a quick recovery.
  18. I'm curious how the pro max compares to the BPS Pro Qualifier. My local WM has a Pro Max lefty and I wanted to pick it up but is that the best choice for that price?
  19. I ordered mine on line and it said it wouldn't be in the store until 4/11
  20. I know there are always the "what are the best ____" questions and they're incessantly plagued with opinions from both bias an objective sources. So rather than start that same argument I'm looking more for a tier opinion. I was on TW last night looking at reels and was curious if there are top, middle, and cheap or "avoid" reels. There are so many to choose from Does it only come down to what features one likes? Or are there enough differences to objectively differentiate the brands/models? Sorry if this is regurgitated but there are so many options I don't want to make a bad choice. Thanks
  21. I lived in the Caribbean for years and have dove all my life and I am WAY more concerned with 'Cudas than sharks. That thing would have made me poop myself if I saw it under water.
  22. a guy willing to learn and great advice given here on BR? Did I mention my hands are about a foot and a half across? I know it's a dink but I'm real excited for a number of reasons. First, it's the first bass I've caught in 30 years. Next, it's a lure and technique I've NEVER caught a bass on before. Finally I tried to listen and read all the great advice on here and it worked. Thanks. BTW, I'm not trying to sound like a kiss ass but on a side note, I was going to lay this fish down and take a picture next to my reel but in watching a Bassresource video on You Tube he states it's not good for the fish due to removing their protective membrane. Therefore all I did was thumb it and release it back into the water. Reel: Diawa ADIA Rod: BPS Carbonlite 7' med. micro line: Trilene XT green 17lb (I know it's heavy but I switched reels and that's what was on there) Strike King 3/8 Black and Blue Jig Strike King Black and Blue Rage Craw.
  23. I got one. Thanks for the heads up!
  24. Joeyfishes, I don't mean to hijack your thread but I have a question that is directly relevant and one (it seems) you would be interested in as well. I have been "committing" strictly to jigs and the Carolina Rig. I went with the Zoom Lizard in Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Flake and the issue I have is that the bait is sitting (dragging) on the bottom. I know I have the rig set up correctly but shouldn't the bait be "floating" above the weight to attract attention and be conspicuous?
  25. I'm a new angler but I bought the Carbonlite rod. I am extremely happy with it. It is light and feels great in my hand. It appears to be well made and the price was right. Again, my experience is virtually non-existent but if first impressions are worth anything it appears to be a fantastic rod for the price. Mine is a one piece 7' med action BC rod.
