  1. Thanks everybody! I'm going out again today, this time with a fly rod, and I'll see if I can maybe beat those ones
  2. I use mostly clouser minnows, sneaky petes, and brown conehead wooly buggers
  3. This isn't exactly a big smallie, but it was the biggest one that I caught since the drought last year in the Milwaukee River. This one was a very close contender for the day, but it fought like there was no tomorrow and it was making my drag scream! I caught them both with a Rapala Husky jerk in silver. I would usually have been fly fishing for them, but my fly rod's tip is broken now.

  5. I went out for 2 hours today, I did one hour with a worm and one with a swimbait. I got a strike with the worm, when I dragged it over the pad, but I caught one bass with the swim bait. I tried out all the tips I received and I think they'd all work in their own situations, but the fishing up here has been really bad lately. Thanks for the help guys!
  6. Thanks for the help! I just gotta fill up my tank on the boat and I'll be on my way to try these things out.
  7. I just started fishing heavy weeds for largemouth and I'm using a bullet weighted Texas rig. I think I'm doing pretty good with 1 caught bass and 3 other strikes in about an hour. The questions I have is, is it ok if my worm goes over the pads? and if I feel some thumps on my line should I set the hook right away? I just think those are the stems of the pads and my weight reconnecting with my worm.
  8. I accomplished catching a bass in thick weeds, did that an hour ago. I still gotta catch a bass on a jig and a spinnerbait and also get my PB LM or SM bass, which ever comes first.
  9. I do my fair share of each type of fishing. Though I've never had any problems while bank fishing, I have had lots of problems while boat fishing. When I anchor down (no trolling motor) at a spot I want to fish, there are always a fair share of pleasure boaters that drive really close to me, sometimes almost making me fall out of my small boat. I have no problem with pleasure boaters, I can be one too, but when you are driving around your boat please take into consideration of those that are fishing.
  10. My favorite fly for smallies is my own creation, it's red micro chenille as the butt, peacock herl body with gold tinsel ribbing as the body and calf tail wing portion (I guess) it's my favorite wet fly for them.
  11. Do any of you guys enjoy fishing for smallmouth bass on the fly? What do you use? Do you prefer it to regular fishing equipment? I personally enjoy it more on the fly and I have an Echo carbon rod and an Orvis reel for it, it's a 5 weight combo so I can use it for smallies and trout. Just wanted to see what you all liked more.
  12. I bought a pair of Berkley polarized sunglasses from Wal-Mart, they only cost $10, and they work fine.
  13. Mine has to be a 2 1/2" rattlin' rapala in blue shad. It absolutely killed spawning smallies in door county
  14. On the weedy lake there are a lot of docks and boat houses in certain areas.
  15. I fish 2 lakes in Northern Wisconsin in early July. One is moderately clear, with mostly a sand bottom and an average depth of 22 feet. The other is murky, with a mostly sand bottom, an average depth of 8 feet, and a fair amount of weeds. I'm targeting smallies and I would like to know what would seem to be my best bet on catching them on these lakes (like what lures would probably work best, and presentations). Thanks for any replies.
  16. My goals are to: Top my PB Catch a bass on a jig and a spinnerbait Catch a LM in thick weeds
  17. I also just got a new rod and reel from a friend, this may open up some more possibilities. It's a 7' Olympic-3070-FG F.W. Spinning rod. It's hard to find the action, because the site is really hard to understand. I don't think this info helped a lot. If anyone has any info on this rod it would be appreciated. I think it's a saltwater/salmon rod, but it easily throws lures 1/2 oz - 1 oz(1 oz may be pushing, but I don't know).
  18. Susky Dude asked, I don't know if it was rhetorical or he was repeating it to himself, but I answered it anyway.
  19. I have seen this in a pond I fish sometimes. I don't know how well this will work, but I would cast a popper right along the shore about a foot off and just pop it in front of them. See if that works, if not just use the old standby of jigs.
  20. The spinning rod and reel are Shimano. Which of those would be used for jigging? would any be even good for jigging? The UL is too small for bass fishing.
  21. I guess I shoulda said, What's you're most productive lure.
  22. I have a 6'6" medium heavy ugly stick with a cheap cabela's fish eagle tournament II baitcaster reel (cheap combo, I know) that I'm planning on using for large lures, jigs, topwater, larger spinnerbaits, most of my plastics, and working around heavy cover. I also have a 6'6" medium FX2652A Shimano rod with a Shimano FX2000FA spinning reel that I'm planning on using for crank baits, smaller spinnerbaits, finesse baits, in line spinners, buzz baits, and lighter lures. I fish for both smallmouth and largemouth. What do you guys use? For what?
  23. the medium spinning rod is 6'6" and so is the ugly stick. the ugly stick says 1/4 oz- 3/4 oz . i listed the line weight for them all above. the medium spinning rod and ugly stick both hold about 100-120 yds of line. I also dont think they have fast tips
  24. I have three rods and reels, and I want to know what I should use them for. I have a medium power spinning rod with 8lb test mono, I have a medium heavy power ugly stick bait caster w/ 12 lb mono, and an ultralight spinning combo with either 4 or 6 lb test mono. What should I use these for? What type of lures, like crankbaits for a certain rod or jigs for another?
