  1. Went to Lake Alice last Thursday evening after work. Caught a few, nothing of any size. Best part was just before sunset when we went upriver to where it was shallow and there is a large weed bed that has developed. The bass were chasing minnows in the weeds. We would wait till we saw a group of minnows spook out of the water nearby and then casted weightless grass pigs and flukes to the spot. Caught a couple doing that but it only lasted about 30-45mins.
  2. Yeah, that was part of the disappointment on Sat. Was expecting a strong bite by the book. Guess that is what keeps it interesting.
  3. Hmmm?? I'm very much a beginner here so I couldn't piece anything together as why that would be. Do you happen to have a guess why it was? Always working on getting another piece of the bass fishing puzzle.
  4. You guys and your secret spots, d**n you! Was just curious cause I was at Conesus on Saturday and we got our butts handed to us. Was a lot different from the success we had been having the couple weeks before.
  5. Was this last week on Conesus?
  6. Can I get the GPS coordinates of Spots #1 and #2? :-) Went to Silver lake last Friday because of all the good reports I was seeing and I can tell you they weren't kidding. Was kept busy all day. It has to be on fire for my amateur skills to catch that many fish. Between the two of us we were well over 50+ fish and it even started picking up again later in the day but due to fighting the wind the trolling motor battery had had enough and forced us off the water. Working on getting a second battery in there! Big fish of the day- Hit up Conesus on Sunday and the morning started out nice there. Was catching them at a decent rate (not as nice as Silver) and then late morning they just shut down and we couldn't really find them again other than one or two here and there. Hopefully Silver lake keeps going and makes up for last year.
  7. It sounds like Silver Lake is starting out a lot better than last year. Might have to give it a crack here in the near future.
  8. Couple nice smallmouths from yesterday.
  9. I've only been bass fishing for 2 years so I'm not the best source for sweet spots. Locally I have fished Lake Alice (my avatar pic is from there) and the canal. I fish the canal in my kayak and do ok with the smallmouth. They are usually smaller ones, but it is good exercise and beats watching TV. Last year I joined a club so most fishing I did was hitting spots that I had to fish an upcoming tournament or my default lake Conesus. Didn't do much close to Holley.
  10. I am in the Holley(Clarendon) area too and would be interested in getting together and doing some fishing with local in the WNY area.
  11. From the Delta site: Fishing Equipment Fishing poles up to 115 linear inches (292 cm) are allowed as checked baggage as long as they are contained safely. Oversized baggage fees will apply for items over 62 linear inches (158 cm). All standard baggage charges apply. http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/baggage/before-your-trip/special-items.html Look under Sports Equipment Just looked into it myself recently Southwest, which require the case to be no larger than 3" diameter.
  12. Nice job, bet you were glad you stuck it out!
  13. Be interested to hear how you made out in Buffalo Harbor. I'm thinking of heading there this weekend.
  14. Can't get out till the weekend. But after that winter I'll take whatever fishing I get.
  15. I hope it stays on fire until the weekend!
  16. Thanks. Was 6.5, my best so far.
  17. Fished Conesus yesterday and that wind was a major pain the %^$. But the wind swept side was where we found 'em. My fishing partner caught the vast majority, I was busy handling the boat in the wind , between the both of us it had to be around 30 fish. Mostly largemouth, half dozen small mouth and a couple pike. Would of most likely caught more but left the fish because the wind just got too annoying. Although I was out fished I did catch the lunker for the day.
  18. I have a Tarpon 120 and used Humminbird's kayak mount. Shoots through the plastic without any issues that I know of. http://www.humminbird.com/Products/MHX-XMK/
  19. Hehe, didn't think about that. I didn't lose any lures, but my partner lost a couple. I just lost my prescription glasses. Was retying my line after catching a pike forgot I had them up on my hat and went I bent over, into the lake they went, Nice job on catching 'em guys!
  20. Thanks Farmer, I am hoping I know a little more than I did last year. Hoping to see if I can put that "book" knowledge to practical knowledge this Saturday. Nice job on catching a limit today!
  21. Apparently my hint was too subtle, I said that so you would PM me some hot spots to fish. In my complete newbie opinion, I think I struggle there because the times I've been there the weed growth was pretty heavy and my trolling motor couldn't cut it so I ended up fishing the outside weed edge. And that seems to be where the pike were hanging out. I've got a new motor this year, with a little more thrust and hopefully a better weedless prop so I can fish into the weeds and the docks. Although I don't think weeds will be an issue this weekend.
