  1. you're totally right. its just personal preference.
  2. you are right on most of those points, but the jig still outclasses it in terms of versatility: 1- a jig can be fished better with the "deadstick" technique which is very effective during the spawn. Also, the bass does't really recognize a shiny piece of metal as a intruder all the time. 2- I said pitched in cover. Not just pitching. And 3- jigs are easier to skip then spinnerbaits. I am not saying i don't like the spinnerbait. It has a time and place just like every other lure, but i don't think it is as versatile as a jig. I don't even use jigs all too much, and i'm not trying to defend them really. I just think they can be used all the time cause they are versatile
  3. Spinnerbait advantages: can be fished any depth can be fished all seasons reaction bite any water type, stained, muddy, clear disadvantages: not great for the LMB spawn; it cannot be fished still cannot be pitched in cover cannot be skipped very well catches wind = backlash Jig outclasses spinnerbait in terms of versatility 9 out of 10 times IMO. Not saying i don't like spinnerbait though!
  4. My go-to lures are: Crawdad colored bill lewis rat-l-trap sexy shad colored square bill crank bait by h20 H & H single willow blade 3/8 spinnerbait in white green pumpkin with gold sparkle curly tail worms (6-8" size) brown, black, or blue soft-plastic craw
  5. What in your opinion is the most versatile lure: can be used shallow, deep, slow, fast, winter, summer, spring, fall, pitch/flipping etc.? IMO it has gotta be the ole jig 'n' pig. You can use just about any trailer depending on the style/speed of your retrieve. It can be fished fast, slow, in deep water, and shallow water. For weight, i would say that the 1/4 oz- 5/16 oz sizes are best. I like 1/4 oz best for year-round, all types of water fishing, but 5/16 is better for the deep stuff.
  6. At my local neighborhood pond i have been having lots of trouble. I have not caught a good sized bass for 4 weeks or so. I think the bass are post spawn, but i am not too sure. Since it is a small pond, and exposed to sun alot, I figured that they cannot still be spawning cause the pond was at the 60 degrees spawning mark earlier. Anyways, I have been using crankbaits, and alabama rigs and spinnerbaits for the last week with no success. I have probably cast 500 times each day with these, maybe 300 with the bama rig, but no success other than snagging a snapping turtle which was fun. I cast in every direction (circle casting) but I can't seem to find them. I have tried the deepest part of the pond and some of the most shallow. The pond is about 2-2.5 square acres, and the max depth is about 6 feet. There is a fountain in the middle, and 10 feet south of the fountain is the deepest part of the lake, atleast i think.
  7. What are the best ultralight lures you have ever used? When i say ultralight, i mean small enough for bluegill to bite, not just crappie. Please suggest hard-baits too! I really want to get a micro sized topwater
  8. On tv, the pro's and bill dance and others have some really bad commercials/sales pitchs. Everytime i watch one, they are trying to sell something that obviously crap. An example is Bill Dance and those fishing scents, the ones that look like a glue stick or the spray ones. Wouldn't the spray one just come off in that water immediately?!?! Also, isn't it just a placebo effect?
  9. What does line conditioner and other sprays that you put on your line do? I see people spray it on their lines sometimes.
  10. Bass can detect a lure from very far away. It is not through vision though, it is through the lateral line. It acts like a radar, sending waves out and when they bounce off of stuff, the bass can tell where that stuff is. Thats why reaction bite baits are so effective
  11. Berkley vanish SUCKS! I don't use fluoro anymore, but if i did I would go with maybe seagur invisX
  12. I decided to make a small panfish/carp lure out of wood. It is about a centimeter long maybe more. I made a slit in the bottom for the hook, but i dont know what to glue it with. Oh, and it is just a regular single hook, and will be positioned with the hook point on top out of water. Should i use gorilla glue or maybe wood filler? I only want it to last like a month or two, or one big carp so please don't recommend some specialized lure making epoxy, just household stuff.
  13. This thread was not supposed to be comparing brands, or weight of reels. It was simply to name reels that are rip offs...
  14. I heard this theory about bass in the summer from some show on TV. I forgot which show, but it was very informative. Basically, it said that bass in the summer are looking for the biggest energy trade off. So it will not go for a small crankbait as much as it used to, and it will rather go for a larger swimbait. This is probably why all the pro's say that summer is the best time of year for swimbaits. The show also said that bass are going to be deep because the water is so hot, and they are going to suspended and preserving energy. I think that it also said that summer is a great time to catch schooling bass. I learned this mid-winter of 2012, so I haven't got to test this theory, but it sounds interesting and i believe it. Whats your thoughts on this?
  15. Thanks for the advice everyone. I pulled the reel apart, and greased EVERYTHING and it seems ok now. It doesn't cast as far as my h20 manic, or Lew's TP, but it is still a pretty cool reel. I figured out that the noise came from the bearing next to the cast control knob, which just needed some oil.
  16. Haha ohh ok.. I ended up getting a H20 ethos which is a rod i already have one of. I love them
  17. Dont take this seriously!
  18. You just changed my mind completely hahaha!
  19. Did you click the link? The rod is only $25 so it is still a budget rod.
  20. Have you guys ever used the Tournament choice casting rods? I think they are "academy only" rods, but I am looking to save a little money to buy some tackle storage stuff. Here is the specific rod i am talking about. http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_726269_-1__?N=101394130+4294951535
  21. I see all these pro's fishing tournaments with their $2000 360 degrees fish/depth finders, and it kinda seems cheap to me. Do you guys feel the same? I would like it if shows like Major League Fishing and maybe even B.A.S.S. series tournaments would take them out for at least a few tournaments. It would be more based on the knowledge an angler has and his ability to tell what the structure/depth might be like by looking at the land/points around him. Just my $0.02.
  22. Hey everyone, I have some spare money laying around and i thought it would be about time to buy a scale for weighing fish. I am going to academy today, so if anyone knows a good scale around 10-15 dollars, please recommend it! Thanks
  23. The chronarch d is a magnificent reel, i wish i bought one...
  24. I am sad that shimano stopped making the rock solid reels like the d series and bantam series... wow the things probably last forever lol!
