  1. The most important aspects of using a chatterbait IMO are: slow reeling- the blade has A LOT of lift and reeling too fast will pull the lure way out of the strike zone. Reel about a turn or so a second (if you have a 6:1 or so than use this, if you have a faster or slower ratio just adjust to it Have a heavy trailer, with light action- Dont use something with 2, or 3 tail parts, it will have a lot of drag and the bait will be lifted out of strike zone easily. I have gone as far as just taking the body part of zoom lizard (about 1-1.5" piece) for a trailer. It adds color, has no drag, has good weight. 10-12 pound test, don't go to heavy or it will have to much drag. Mono or fluoro, it doesn't matter to me. For me, the most important thing is being able to keep the lure moving fast to get reaction baits, and stay deep/in strike zone so i can get to the fish
  2. thats a good point. I see that a lot too.
  3. How the heck do you get this thing out? I don't want to bend the spool.
  4. So should i just take out the bearings from the reel, then put in maybe a plastic disposable cup with some acetone for 2 day/nights. Then i will take out and let em sit on a towel for 30 mins. Then i will put em back in reel and put one drop of oil on each bearing. Sound good?
  5. Thanks everyone for the help! I may have fixed it. I am going to try at some point completely flushing out the bearings and then putting new oil (1 drop), but i don't have very good oil right now. It is just some all-purpose oil, and i am waiting for some boca oil when i buy the bearings for my old Bantam cu200. The big fixs were; 1. new oil, cleaning of the spool shaft and bearing with cutips and paper towel. 2. new line- got a full spool of berkely 12 lb smooth cast, and it is great for cheap line.
  6. Edwin Evers uses the PQ, and around $100 rods... that about as close as it gets to what you're saying.
  7. I was thinking the best way to fix it would be buy 2 boca replacement bearings for it (side plate bearing, spool shaft bearing), then send it to shimano to see if there is anything wrong with the pinion gear or anything else and that should come with a reel cleaning and service too. What do you guys think?
  8. I have done that before and it really does not help much. I will test it out more today to see if it is fixable.
  9. I wish shimano would just start making the d series again
  10. I have a old bantam curado 200, and it is having some issues. It makes a loud screech noise when i cast it and it is not very smooth on the retrieve. I think it is a blown out bearing, what about you guys? Is this reel good enough that i should pay the money for new bearings? Also, what would shimano do if i contacted them about it?
  11. For the money - h20 ethos best rod - hmmm..... I havent used many but i like some of the higher class shimano rods
  12. So shimano has had b, d, e and the newer g series.... will there be a new line up soon? I'm excited to see the new reels this year.
  13. I agree with you. you could buy 7 h20 mettles which can cast a light lure very good for the price of a core. H20 mettle may not feel like the nicest reel when you are reeling it in, in terms of smoothness and whatnot, but it can cast, thats for sure
  14. i really want to get a chronarch. I think i have enough for one this weekend. I am so excited
  15. I fish a pond that has large amounts of 10 pound bass. It is a minor version of El salto not even kidding. Not saying they are easy to catch. I have probably spent 50 hours cranking (fast water coverage) in the last 2 months and only caught a 4,5, and 2 8+'s. Average fish weight is around 2 pounds, but some days you can catch 5 three pounders and a few 4-5 pounders.
  16. Yes, generally bass do get more active before a cold front. The main reason for this has to do with barometric pressure. Right before a cold front, the pressure goes down a good bit and this makes the fish feel empty sort of. The food in their stomach feels like less, and they will become more aggressive and hit at anything that looks like food.
  17. What do you think is the most overpriced reel, rod, lure, or anything in the entire fishing market? Just say the name and a reason or two why it is the most overpriced
  18. I am so unlucky when it comes to buying stuff. I always am careful (look at reviews, advice from others, stuff like that), but i seem to often get a dud or its not as good as something else... I am not trying to spam the forums, but i just want to be really careful. Sorry for having so many forums and thanks for all your help on them.
  19. I have a tourney pro already, which is OK, but i dont really like how easily it backlashes
  20. I know its kind of a risky fix, but my rods are all around $50 so whatever. Oh, and i didn't mean to aggresively twist the sandpaper on the line guide. I meant just a gentle twist or 2 and its smooth again
  21. do you have to open the bearings up, or can do you just put a drop of oil on the bearing and let it sink into the bearing?
  22. should I get a chronarch 200e or a curado 200e? also does the 50e size cast farther than the 200e size?
  23. very simple fix. take some sand paper and roll it up tight, with the rough part on the outside. Then put it in the line guide and let the roll expand. Then twist it, and it will smooth out the line guide. Fluorocarbon gets hot fast by friction and that is why it made a nick in your guide. Make sure you let your line get wet so it doesn't burn into your guides.
  24. So do you just take out the bearing, then put it in a container with acetone in it, or do you put acetone on bearing or what? Im new to this cleaning stuff
