  1. I'm looking to buy a 1448 modified V jon boat, and I'm unsure which way to go. 90% of the time I fish alone, so I'm thinking no center seat. But the chances of me finding a used one with no center seat are probably slim. I'd prefer to buy a used one, but I'm not against buying a new one. I'm looking into a 2009 Lowe L1448MT with bunk trailer and depthfinder for $1,500, no motor. But it has a center seat with livewell/storage. What do you guys think? If you mostly fished alone, would no center seat be best? Thanks.
  2. That may be the worst song I ever heard !
  3. Then I would say a 12' V-hull or jon boat, and a boat trailer with bunks. You could always make a cart to wheel it to and from the water if needed.
  4. Have you considered a kayak for each of you or a canoe? I've been in 12' jon boats and V-hulls and they are very tippy.
  5. I also ran a trolling motor and depthfinder with the same battery with no problems.
  6. Thanks all. It is a set screw. It's an allen head with a pointed end. My guess is the hole in the shaft is stripped. I would post a pic if I knew how. That is WAY beyond my knowledge.
  7. It's a short screw on the back of the motor's head, about 1/4" thick and 3/8" long. It's supposed to screw into a hole in the shaft, but it's stripped. Are you guys saying to drill thru the shaft and use a bolt and a nut? How do I do that without damaging the wires? The way it is now I can pull the head right off and see the wires.
  8. I was given an old Minn Kota motor(3 speed, 18 lb. thrust), and the screw that tightens the head to the shaft is stripped. So the head is loose and spins. Is there a easy fix for this? If I can fix this, I will use it on my kayak. Thanks.
  9. Nice. There's no reason to dilute it with water though.
  10. Thanks. Are 1X1 and 1X2 the most common sizes used for framing floors and casting decks ?
  11. Where are you guys buying the aluminum angle for your boat projects? Is there a consensus on the best place to buy it for the best price, etc? Thanks.
  12. Thanks. I see it now. I didn't know I had to go thru the "build it" process on their website.
  13. Does anyone know if these are made anymore? I'm not having any luck so far finding one. I'm leaning toward a modified V. Thanks.
  14. Very nice. Are the plastic boxes screwed down somehow ?
  15. I never quite understood what a "bass boat" is. I don't need a special boat to catch bass.
  16. How does the boat sit higher in the water? When I looked on the Lowe and Alumacraft websites, the side heights were the same for both the 15" and 20" transoms.
  17. I'm usually out about 3-4 hours max. My poor back gets too sore ! The Field and Stream Eagle Talon 12' from Dick's gets very good reviews. You can probably get a better kayak if you buy a used one. I would recommend you buy one at least 12' long.
  18. Thanks. That would be the only reason to get a 20" transom?
  19. I'm looking for a 1448 flat jon, and I'm wondering if there's an advantage to either transom height? I doubt I will use an outboard motor on it, and I would be buying a new trolling motor for it. I assume there would be less chance of water splashing in over the transom, but is there any other difference other than motor shaft length? Thanks.
