Wrong Rod? Falcon Lowrider Xg Xd Cranker
Yea, I was just wondering since its a Heavy, and Moderate action, if it would act stronger. seeing its overpowered. 3/4 oz to 2 oz. and Im throwing a 1/2 oz jig? I have a skeet reese jig/worm rod im using now, and its a bit weak feeling with the 1/2 oz jigs.

Wrong Rod? Falcon Lowrider Xg Xd Cranker
Hey guys, I was at Cabela's today and seen this rod, Its 7 ft 9inch, and is a heavy action and M flex. I purchased the rod, and didn't see its a XD Cranker. duh. They had a duckett rod that was 7 ft 6 heavy action, but It had micro eyes, not sure if that was a good thing or not. That I almost got, but decided on the falcon for the length. I was planning on using it to pitch and cast jigs mostly 1/2 oz with rage tail trailers. So will this rod work? I can take it back, but just wondering. I like the length of the rod. but I don't know about the M flex. Its rated for 3/4oz to 2 oz. thanks

Help Me Pick Out A Few Jig Combos?
Thats a good answer, What color do you throw in a clear and slightly stained lakes? I have basic colors. Black and Blue for heavy stained Green Pumpkin / Water Mellon for Clearer And Shad colors for when I know they are feeding on them. Im not good with jigs, but My advice and understanding is limited... Always learning..... Thats mostly what I use, but I got 1/2oz jigs. After watching a few pro dvds, that seems to help them feel the bottom better. It keeps the jig on the bottom for a better search bait. But I also throw 1/2oz spinners too. I like the bigger ones. lol

Help Me Pick Out A Few Jig Combos?
Interesting to see people only suggest a Black and Blue jig. That goes against several pro videos that I have watched. Im not saying it wrong, but there seems to be a consciences of Black and Blue in heavy stained water. It seems that the Greens ( dark green pumpkin, and watermelon) in clear water, and the blacks in heavy stained water. I'm sure you will find this often online. The size of the jig is all about just keeping feeling on the bottom. I asked a question on this forum, about 1/2 jigs being to heavy, but seems that that's the preferred size of jigs for the most part. I would suggest you get some different sizes, and some green and black colors.

1/2 Oz Jigs To Large To Fish With?
So you guys are telling me that a small bass say 1 to 2 lbs can and will take a 1/2 oz jig with a trailer. the reason is the lakes I fish 1-2 lbs r about avarage size we catch.

1/2 Oz Jigs To Large To Fish With?
Hi guys, wanted to get some input on this. Do you think 1/2oz jigs are to heavy to fish with? As I was fishing with a jig this weekend, it was a 1/2 0z with a rage tail blue craw tail. And that thing was like "thunk" in the water, and just sucking to the bottom of the lake. I was wondering, is it just to heavy to fish with. Can smaller bass hit a 1/2 oz jigs. I don't have much experience with them. I was thinking going with a 3/8 or 1/4 jigs with a very small trailer. Something that could compete with a Shaky Head and a Robo worm? Whats your thoughts. Thanks

My Experenice With Livingston Lures Round 1
Hey guys, Just had a chance to throw some Livingston lures today. I fished Lake Adger, a small lake in Polk County, NC . Water Temp was 45-47 degs. I received my Order for 3 Livingston lures, 2 where the DM 14 and 1 DM20. My first impression was wow, this things are big. They remind me of the size of strike kings 5x and 6x lures. I was not really wanting a larger bait. But ok. I fished the lures all day, with out a single strike. With that said. I threw a few Bandit 300 series crank baits as well, with no luck either. The Livingston Lures are really well made, and have a great finish on them. They seems to run straight right out of the box. Wide Wobble, and they dived, OK, not as fast as I have read. They croaked and lit up just as advertised. After lunch I switched to Crank baits, and a shaky head, with a KVD finesses work in Watermelon and red flakes. That seem to help I was able to get 4 bass with a total weight of just over 5 lbs. The bass where in the 20 ft dephts. Never seen them on sonar, They must of been holding tight to cover. Not one bleep from the sonar, or even a mark on the screen, where I was catching the fish. So overall, I like the Livingston's lures for quality, still not sure if they will produce, but no other crank bait produced today. The group I was with threw Livingston, Boomer, Bandit, Rapala, and a kvd 5x. With no luck. All was caught was on shaky head. So the jury is still out for the Livingston lures. I wrote this because I know many are interested in these lures but at 10 a pop.( bass pro had them for 9.99) it can get expensive. On a side note, this was the first time I had thrown a bandit lure. The 300 series seem really nice. They threw a mile. Just got to find some good colors with Clear waters. I had a fire craw color. Ill post again when I go again. hopefully in a few weeks the water will get in the 50's and maybe I can see if they will produce. Daryl

Best Fishfinder For Approx. $500
If you can find one, the Humminbird 598si would be a great unit. You can search for them on google. I found them around $565. They are discontinued this year. But still a great unit for the price.

Livingston Lures...
Funny people will not spend $16 to try a new lure, but spend $15 for Lucky Crafts. what's the difference? I understand the cost, but really $16 is not that much money. Besides the croaking, they seem to be well made excellent action baits. From what I understand, they dive fast to get to their zone quicker, have a wide wobble like a square bill, and seems to be excellent quality, with quality hooks. So why are they not worth $16 when people will spend more on baits that do the same thing with out the croaking? Just wondering, not trying to start anything.

Crank Baits
KVD 1.5 In the 6ft range I don't know a better lure to be honest. I have tried them all, not saying they are not good lures, but it seems that anything that has kvd on it just plain out catch's fish.

Best Worm For Shaker Head?
straight Tail Robo Worms. In two main colors. If there is perch in the lake, use Prizm Perch. Iv caught a load of fish of that color. I buy 10 packs at a time. Another great color is Warmouth. OMG I have not used either color yet and came home empty handed YET. lol

My Experience With Humminbird Warranty Claim Feb 2014
I wanted to give my experience with Humminbird and their warranty service. I purchased a 598si combo back in April 2013. Unit worked great, but on first trip out in jan 2014 my side image had a couple of large lines on the screen. I changed the head unit to the front down, and the unit worked fine. However the water was 43 degs and Ice was floating on the lake. So I thought maybe it was something to do with that. Second trip out, unit did the same thing, this time in a lake that is used to cool a power plant, and water was 55 degs. I called Humminbird, and was given a Customer ID number and to send the unit in. I sent the unit on Monday, two day shipping. Humminbird received the package on Wed morning. I received a package on Sat morning of the same week, with my unit, and a new transducer. I wasn't happy that the transducer failed after 10 months of light use. Even with a new unit, I worry about its longevity. However, the service of Humminbird has been top notch. You can not ask for anything better, than a 3 day turn around including shipping. I live in Ashville NC, and it was shipped to AL. Overall very happy with Humminbird.

Do You Give Up On Lures
Yea, I give up pretty quick to be honest. I have my core, and If a new lure cant produce what I feel is equal to my core lures, Its gone. Example, I purchased one of those Skeet Reese square bills. I throwed that sucker a million times. I didn't catch a thing on that lure. Picked up a core kvd 1.5 and bam, fish on. That $15 lure was a waste of money for me. Not saying its a bad lure, but for me and my techniques it is. Also for what ever reason Rapalas do not work for me either. A lot of people love them, but for what ever reason I cant get them to work for me.

598Ci Hd Si For $350. I Got A Steal! Now What?
Iv got the same unit. here's what I did. I put the original transducer and depth finder mounting on the boat at the steering wheel area. Then I purchased another SI transducer, and mount and installed that at the bow, and mounted the transducer on the trolling motor. I purchased one of those tall brackets to help me see it better when up front fishing. When I'm looking for a place to fish with the big motor, I can scan, and then just pop the head off and place it on the bow. Also I would recommend buying one of those transducer shields for the trolling motor. I have had mine up on rocks plenty of times. With out it, those 200 plus dollar transducers would been broke. These are really a good unit. NO networking, and you can use an ipilot with them, but for a basic SI unit, they work great.

Navionics Or Lakemaster Sd Card?

Navionics Or Lakemaster Sd Card?
Hey guys, I do not want to high jack this thread, but Can you use the navionics web app to find waypoints and download them into your unit as well? My humminbird has a color selection for a certain depth, and a water level offset. Is the lakemaster option different. I thought the water offset was for the trolling motor. lol Seeing it sets about 2 feet in the water I adjusted the levels by 2 feet. Am I wrong on this ?

Problem Casting 1/2 Jigs And Trailers?
Solved!! Ok I feel real stupid right about now. After posting this thread, and reading the feedback, I couldn't sleep. I got up this morning before work and took a look, and could not believe what I found. When I received this reel, I turned all the breaks off, as I do with all reels. Well it seems that I turned the Brakes all ON. I feel so stupid. The bad part is that this reel was originally on a skeet reese spinnerbait rod. I couldn't get any distance of the rod, and purchased a lucky 13 rod, But before I could get to the lake, I received a new Pflugger reel for Christmas the new blue ones. And put this reel on my jig rod. So the whole time was the fact that I turned the brakes on instead of OFF...... Live and learn I guess. Anyway Thanks to everyone who posted trying to help me out. Daryl
