  1. technically the record has been smashed by over 3lbs before but the guy did not want to kill the fish and as many should know getting a fish weighed on a certified scale almost guarantees it will die. He weighed it on a good scale but not a certified scale so it doesn't count. I'll try to track down the article. (Also turns out the reason he never officially weighed the fish was when he caught it at 25lbs it was foul hooked. original F&S article: http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/field-notes/2013/06/has-long-lost-photo-george-perry-and-his-world-record-bass-surfaced 25lb LM article: http://www.anglerwise.com/2010/03/10/the-real-world-record-largemouth-bass/ Found a video about Dottie as they called her:
  2. I was presenting baits slow fast and everything in between. Thanks for the tips, if anyone else has any summertime fishing advice I'm more than willing to take it in.
  3. If you have a woodpile those can attract tons of worms. My friend keeps a pile of logs for his wood fireplace and when he goes fishing he goes out a day or two in advance and collects worms from under the wood. Last time I went with him he had a whole mess of good fish catching wigglers.
  4. I'm gonna go back out this monday and put in a full day trying to figure out whats going on there. Gonna take all my tackle (I can fit it all in my tackle bag it's not as much as that sounds lol) and try a bit of everything until I get them to bite. I might even throw my small a rig in there if I run out of options.
  5. yea I know there are some nice bass in there I have caught a 4.5 lber and a couple 3lbers in early April. It's really frustrating me because in Early to Mid April I wasn't catching anything under 2lbs now I can't seem to catch anything or if I am it's about 1lb. or less. It's getting to the point that i don't know if some people have come through and decimated the population or if they all escaped during the flooding a couple months ago. But the main point of my topic isn't just focused on this location. I consistently have trouble during the summer months and I don't understand it. Oh and a quick after thought, it's not that they are all just spawned out either. The pond was really good all the good fish I was catching also had some nice length to them.
  6. Clarksville (middle tn near the kentucky border)
  7. read this on the F&S site last week. Looks like some "reporter" for FOX skimmed through their article and rewrote it. The general consensus from the author and the comments is it is most likely a fake.
  8. So I could use some help. Every year I run into a huge slump, Summer. I don't have a boat nor do I have access to a boat on any kind of regular basis. I find myself almost unable to catch fish during the summer months. In fact I haven't been able to consistently catch fish here in TN for the last 3 weeks. I get skunked more often than not and when I don't I tend to catch maybe 1-2 ok fish. Now I know there are good fish where I go, but I can't seem to get them to bite anything. I most often fish a smallish size pond with a decent amount of cover, mostly submerged laydowns, and good bit of hyrdilla along most of the banks. I went out yesterday from about 5-8:30 (They close the place down at sunset) I hit a few spots that everything I know says there should be fish, submerged trees, vegetation, etc... But catch nothing. I tried spinnerbaits of various sizes and colors, weightless senkos, craws, crainkbaits of various sizes and colors, I even employed some JJ's on the senko and craw. The water is stained a bit murky but visibility isn't bad, It was partly cloudy, about the mid to lower 80's. Do you have any tips that could potentially get me out of my summertime funk once and for all?
  9. If you hold your hands out flat do they shake noticeably or is this only when your fishing? You may just be developing an unsteady hand as you, excuse me for saying this, get older.
  10. Just bought an assortment of jigs and a few chatterbaits, Thanks for the heads up!
  11. Like many already stated, get a tetanus shot. It's really not that bad. You don't even have to go to a Dr.'s Office go to a walgreens or CVS pharmacy with one of those "minute clinics" and you can get it done there and be in and out relatively quickly and cheaply.
  12. Well you did say there were gators, maybe they were fleeing.
  13. You need to be using a variable reel speed. reel slow then give it a couple fast turns etc... and swap it up. The erratic reeling is what really makes it do it's magic. Be careful with the cranks though they will spin out if reeled too quickly. The shad and minnow are better IMO. Caught the fattie in my profile pic on the Scatter Rap Minnow.
  14. Kool the only thing that worries me then is the width as I'm a rather big guy. The seat thing doesn't bother me I can deal with it until I can get a new seat to put in it. And I have a truck and plan on transporting them in the bed anyway. So thanks a ton for the info.
  15. All the reviews I see online for them are pretty good. Depending on which one it is I did see something about needed to change out the seat on one model as they were awful.Other than that looks good. Not to hijack your thread or anything but I'm actually thinking about getting one soon myself so if anyone has any actual personal experience on them that would be great. I'm looking at getting a F&S Eagle Talon sit on top Kayak.
  16. Nice, congrats wish there were these sorts of opportunities when I was still in school.
  17. double hook up lol, trout and a stick fish to boot!
  18. I've been known to eat a bass now and again. (GASP!) I've found that they are at their best when cooked one of two ways. Pan fried with a cornmeal and seasoning mixture dipped dry wet dry in some buttermilk or egg. Option two, over an open flame wrapped in aluminum foil with fresh lemon juice and pepper.
  19. Here's a couple things I found after a quick search : https://srac.tamu.edu/index.cfm/event/getFactSheet/whichfactsheet/195/ http://www.lsuagcenter.com/NR/rdonlyres/86E9F5D0-6D8A-436B-BF83-8D7C21258C1D/41301/chapter2.pdf I glanced through them real quick but they look like they have some useful information. It just occured to me that someone needs to get on making a more accurate looking crawfish imitation.
  20. As far as topwaters go I've had alot of good fish come off AR Lures Pencil - 90 it's walking bait but I've caught about half of my bass on it just slowly retrieving it with a little twitch every 10-20 seconds or so. If you are interested in this lure one thing you need ot know is it is very light and will work best on light tackle. I really like buzzbaits but have had very little success with them personally though I know they work well for many people.
  21. the scatter rap line is awesome. The cranks have a tendency to roll over if you don't fish them super slow. However the minnow and shad models can be burned wihtout problems. I bought a couple of each model but had my best luck on a firetiger minnow I was hammering fish from the bank watching everyone around me get skunked. They don't run deep they are definately shallow cranks.
  22. Anyone fished the Bass Pro Shops version of the Flash Mob Jr., the Deadly 5 War Path Rig? I just picked one up because they were totally sold out of the Flash Mobs and I'm wondering if the same quality will be present in the BPS version as there is in YUM's model. AFTER EDIT Just discovered one issue with the BPS model. The willow blades are not attached to the wires with swivels but just with a split ring. I'm gonna try it out for a while how they have it but I feel like it would work better with swivels.
  23. I'm learning to fish plastics atm, I suck with them, but jigs are next on my list and this I think has given me a good head start on that. Thanks!
  24. I like spinnerbaits and shallow cranks but I'm also a completely hooked on spinnerbaits...always have been.
  25. My favorite bass fishing memory has got to be taking my dad down to this little tiny cove off Percy Priest lake I had found the week before. We came up on this cove tossed our lines in and were immediately hammered on both lines. We caught fish every cast for an hour straight. Turned out we had stumbled across a whole mess of bass in an outright feeding frenzy. between the two of us we caught 50 or 60 2-4lb large mouth on a couple simple rooster tails and cheapo spincaster setups. It had to be the most exciting hour of fishing I've ever had. I've not been that fortunate since but I hope to one day be able to share that experience with my own kid when I eventually have one. That was the last time we were able to go fishing together and probably one of the last times my father and I spent a whole day completely comfortable and happy with each other doing something we both loved before he passed away and I'm very grateful for the experience.
