  1. I skimmed the replies to the topic so forgive me if this has already been said but, Something I don't see alot of people mentioning on this forum to people interested in getting sponsored is youtube. Make regular and high quality videos and post them to youtube. It should be mix of entertaining fishing footage and knowledgeable advice and information. If you can do this it could really help you in getting sponsored. Especially if you are already a successful local and regional tournament fisherman. Companies sponsor anglers for the marketing value. Popular youtube videos can market products better than any trade show or tournament ever could. It's nearly permanent marketing presence to have their products featured in a popular online video. On top of that you can and should have your own website where you can keep all your content in one centralized place as well as a proper facebook page (not your personal one) and an active and engaged twitter account if you can manage it.
  2. I fish fluro exclusively 8lb on my spinning reel and 12 to 20b on my bait caster depending on what I'm doing.. I use pline or seagaur lines they are thinner than other brands I've tried and cast for miles.. I've hauled whole downed trees to shore on the pline 20lb so it's strong as hell too.
  3. I disagree with the advice to learn on mono. If you intend to fish fluorocarbon line (And why wouldn't you?) your better off learning on it you will be better for it and won't have an additional learning phase when you inevitably swap.
  4. I'm not entirely sure what happened clicked on the TW bookmark by mistake saw something shiny on the front page everything got fuzzy and the next thing I knew I'd dropped about 145 bucks on all this...
  5. I'm gonna say either a person whacked it with something or it was a prop.
  6. I was thinking of a bait that is closer to something like the megabass siglet. As far as bass not being able to hear, sound is essentially vibration. So the vibration that makes the sound would be detected by the bass. If bass can't hear that would significantly reduce the point of lures like the ones livingston makes. I also thought just a bit ago of something utilizing water moving through the bait and through some sort of reed like contraption that could emit the noise. This idea would obviously require quite a bit of planning and experimentation with hollow bodies and different materials and configurations of the materials. I'm very much brainstorming here and am open to any suggestions. I also realize that by posting this here I am essentially opening this idea up to being stolen but whatever I just want to make it for myself and maybe some friends if it actually comes to fruition.
  7. So I have thought about this a few times and I know there are a few lures that do this somewhat, but I'm looking to create a lure that imitates the sound and profile of a bug that has gotten itself stuck in the water. I had thought cicada's originally and I know there are a couple cicada imitations out there but yesterday while fishing I noticed a bee that was stuck on the top of the water near shore and watched as small fish tried to take it (I believe they were blue gill) and then was very amazed as a bass clobbered it. I noticed a couple things as I watched it. First it was subtle as far as its impact on the top of the water making some slight disturbances but nothing similar to what I have seen from most top water baits. Second it was noisy, the noise is actually what got my attention, It had a very distinct buzzing sound as I'm sure you would imagine with this being a bee and all. However, it was different from how it would sound flying around. Obviously this is due to it being stuck on the water and not able to actually get the full range of motion from its wings, and I'm sure the water itself changed the pitch of the vibration. This has all got me thinking about how I can best imitate this entire scenario. Constructing a bait that looks like a bee or other winged insect on the water wouldn't be much of a problem. What I'm interested in is how to go about making that near constant buzzing noise without causing too much commotion in the water or moving the bait too much faster than it would naturally. Any ideas on how to achieve something like this? Obviously I've thought small props, or somehow causing the noise using the wings, I've also considered some sort of electronics but that's not really feasible at this point. I've also thought rattles but that could be problematic in it being a top water. So long story short any idea how this could be achieved? Also do you think this is even really worth the effort? Hope I didn't ramble too much and that I don't come off as an idiot lol.
  8. Its been in the mid to upper 80's here which is much cooler than the last few years. It was 100+ this time last year. Humidity is through the roof right now though.
  9. That is insane...I want to buy one so bad but the fiance just shot me down
  10. Anyone know if the Iwata Neo is any good?
  11. I've been planning on getting one or two of these for me and the fiance, I had heard the seats are crap but I plan on changing them out as has been recommended in some of the reviews I have read.
  12. I prefer fluorocarbon line over mono. I buy Pline and Seagur fluorocarbons. They are pricey but the line diameter on them is lower than the cheaper fluoro's like stren meaning I can get more line on my spool. There is definitely some stretch in fluoro but much less than mono in my experience. The main draw for me when it comes to fluoro is it's visibility under water or lack there of.
  13. Dark colors like blacks, purples, blues, bright colors like chartreuse, chrome, pink, red. Noisy baits. Spinnerbaits with colorado or indiana blades. Fish the floating debris sometimes fish will lay under it and ambush pray from their mobile cover.
  14. I like them, I have no proof that they work other than I had two spinnerbaits this spring that were exactly the same color, size, blades, etc... only difference was the hook color. I caught three times as many fish on the one with the red hook as the one without. I also caught all of the bigger bass on it. Don't take this as proof however. I only had one decent rod at the time and fished them at different time of the day sometimes on different days all together. So honestly, like many people will probably come by and say, It really just comes down to your confidence. If a red hook makes you more confident you will most likely catch more fish.
  15. Everything I've read about the topic and my own experience suggest Centrifugal is the best. Dual coming in second (hard to initially imagine however look at it like a jack of all trades master of none type situation), and Mag being last. When it really comes down to it though your best bet would be to try a couple out and decide for yourself.
  16. I have the BPS 3 arm Flash Mob jr knock off and I have had no problems throwing it on my MH rod with 20lb fluoro.
  17. Well at least I learned some things from this. First never disassemble a reel without the schematics in front of you and I pretty much know this reel inside and out and could probably break it down and re-assemble it in my sleep.
  18. spinnerbaits
  19. That and the drag click spring assembly was backwards.
  20. I'd say you can't go wrong with the smoke. I have no experience with the exo sadly but if I could justify the purchase to the Fiance I would buy one in a heartbeat.
  21. Chartreuse White Spinnerbait with Indiana blades and a red hook.
  22. My guess would have been gar originally but normally you see gar's fins when they are cruising shallow like that.
  23. First off frogs are fun but I'm in the wait a second before you set the hook group, Second, you guys are nuts oysters are great. Just don't eat them if your landlocked.
  24. So i went and broke it down again this time with the schematics right in front of me and realized I had a part on backwards (part of drag system) corrected that and it's working good as new. Thanks guys.
